Abstract

The hollow member, forming part of a door or window frame etc., with good insulation is required, consists of two metal strips (1,2) joined by pairs of cross-strips (3) made of insulating material, such as fibre reinforced plastics. The metal strips have pairs of ribs (6, 7)projecting from one side. Each pair forming a space, inside which flanged edge (4) of the cross-strips it clamped. Each outer rib (7) is bent outwards for inserting the flanged edge, then bent back again by a pressure roller (10). The inner flange (6) is hooked to interlock with the flanged edge of the cross-strip. The flanged edge has corrugations (14), which interlock with the smooth edge of the inner rib under pressure. Different types of corrugated surface may be used.
