Abstract

Improved adhesive polymer (I) is obtd. from one or more (meth)acrylate ester monomer(s) (II) and one or more monovinylidene-aromatic monomer(s) (III) as required; the novelty is that up to 5 wt.% (w.r.t. I) conjugated diene monomer(s) (IV) is copolymerised as a crosslinker. Specifically (II) have formula CH2=CR1COOR2 and amt. of (II) is 50-99.5 wt.%; (IV) have the formula CH2=CR4-CR5=CR6R7 and amt. of (IV) is 0.5-5 wt.%; (III) have the formula Ar-CR3=CH2 R1 = H or Me; R2 = 1-20C hydrocarbyl; R4, R5, R6, R7 = H, Hal or 1-20C hydrocarbyl; Ar = Ph (opt. substd. with Hal or one or more 1-4C hydrocarbyl; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl. (I) Contains 98.5-75 wt.% alkyl acrylate, 0.5-5 wt.% butadiene or isoprene and 1-20 wt.% styrene, and is largely insol. in THF at 20 deg.C; (I) contains 10-40 wt.% (w.r.t. total wt.) of an agent (V) for increasing adhesiveness; (I) is obtd. as an aq. latex by polymerisation.
