Abstract
Description
Activated carbons are essentially made of carbon standing substances, which are characterized in that they have an extremely large surface area. This surface does not only extend to the externally visible surface, but sits down inside the activated carbon body as a sponge-like structure continues.
Activated carbon can be practically made from all of the substances manufacture that carbon in a bond form included in a thermal treatment a predominant measure of polymeric carbon leads to infusible residues and in to a lesser extent to form gaseous monomers or oligomers.
B. binderpechgebundene Steinkohlenstaub-Form linge.Of course, these substances include such. B. wood, Nutshells or peat and artificial such. B. phenol and furan resin-based thermosets, polyvinylidene chloride, polyacrylonitrile and bituminous substances like coal tar pitch and petro-stemmed pitches. In very many cases, mixtures of synthetic and natural products used as activated carbon precursors such as B. binder pitch-bonded hard coal dust form successful.
Activated carbons with a particularly large surface area are obtained from substances that have a disordered isotropic structure door structure during the thermal treatment step, also known as carbonization. Substances that melt between 350 ° C and 500 ° C phase, like certain types of hard coal or peche, can become molten in the course or plastic phases that they have in these tempera Go through the door interval, anisotropic structure accept. These carbonates can not be too high convert large-area activated carbons. Therefore be such substances below their melting temperature undergo a chemical treatment that leads to a Infusibility of the primary products leads.
The creation of the surface, the activation, can be caused by chemical processes during or after the Carbonization done and by physical pro processes during preproduction.
Especially those activated carbon precursors are out preferred economic and ecological reasons, which has a high carbonate yield. Such Preproducts are e.g. B. hard coal and pitches with a large carbon-to-hydrogen Ratio and a low oxygen content.
In addition to a large surface, there is often a high one Abrasion resistance and high catalytic activity the activated carbons desired.
According to a process by the Japanese company Kureha, ver published in the German Offenlegungsschrift P 23 49 163 can make hard, abrasion-resistant activated carbons be produced that a pitch melt with 10 to 50 parts (based on 100 parts of pitch) of an aromati to a homogeneous solution is mixed. The shaped and then solidified Pechlö solution is treated with another solvent, in which the bad luck is insoluble. The aromatic Solvent leaving fine pores released from bad luck. Al alcohols and aliphates used. The arising fei Pores in the activated carbon precursor are then selected Starting point for the micro- or adsorp tion pore system. These activated carbon made from pitch len are characterized by a high hardness. Your Hardness is so great that it is for continuous adsor tion processes can be used in which the activated carbon is used in the fluid bed. Here Union Carbide Cor poration, Danburg CT 06 817, USA from 1983.
For nitrogen oxide removal and sulfur dioxide Removal from flue gases becomes activated carbon as a redex catalyst used. Also for numerous others Chemical processes can use activated carbon as a catalyst Find use. To the chemical processes as possible The speed of implementation is to make it economical the starting materials on the catalyst should be as high as possible; This means, for example, when arranging the Kataly sators as a fixed bed, the smallest possible mass transfer to achieve corridor zone lengths. On the one hand, this can be achieved are used by a highly active catalyst and on the other hand by using catalysts with small Diffusion and flow resistances for use com men. In the company font of the Japanese company Toyobo Co. Ltd., Osaka, Japan, from March 1980 become activated carbon fibers with approx. 0.01 mm fiber diameter, the more common compared to shaped activated carbon instruct for catalytic and adsorptive applications activated carbons over 1 mm in diameter for ad sorption and catalyzed chemical processes except have neatly small mass transition zone lengths.
According to German Offenlegungsschrift P 23 49 163 leave fine activated carbon fibers of great mechanical stability lity also from spun pitch filaments. In the German Offenlegungsschrift P 37 41 482 the production of fine pitch fibers from pitch solutions in the presence of supercritical solvent phases described.
Already before 1930 it was known to be catalytically highly active Activated carbons from iron and nitrogenous organi to produce substances as precursors: biochemistry Sche Zeitschrift, 145, (1924), pages 462-480; Yo urnal of the Chemical Society, (1925), pages 1347- 1357, (1926), pages 1818-1821; Magazine for physical chemistry, 114, (1925) pages 413-429. The activated carbons obtained are characterized by high Nitrogen and iron contents. In the Journal of Elektroanalytical Chemistry, 210, (1986), pp 277-286, the high electrocatalytic activity Carbonized porphine, i.e. nitrogen-rich described organic compounds that the one reached by platinum electrodes.
The aforementioned prior art is summarized although it is known to be mechanically resistant fiber shaped or finely divided activated carbon precursors in to produce high yield from pitch, from which hard abrasion-resistant activated carbons can be produced. On the other hand, it is also known to or iron-rich organic activated carbon precursors To produce activated carbons with high catalytic activity. That these preliminary products have not so far also about the economic and in terms of obvious reasons for high end product quality preferred peche, is because that the appropriate nitrogen and iron bearing substances according to the known state of the Technology is not homogeneous or molecularly dispersed in the Pitch can be distributed.
There is therefore the task of producing a method position of pitch-based fine-particle or fibrous Manufacture activated carbon precursors in which those carrying nitrogen or nitrogen and iron Molecules of molecular dipers are distributed in the pitch.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by isotropic pitch with aromatic nitrogen or containing aromatic nitrogen and heavy metals Compounds in the presence of one, one or supercritics containing several solvents gas phase at elevated temperature and one Pressure that is at least above the critical pressure of a the solvent used is as long as it is stirred or moved otherwise, until the liquid phase from a homogeneous molecular disperse distribution of pitch and nitrogen or Substances containing nitrogen and heavy metals stands. This creates an isotropic solution like this is treated that it abge at high speed cools and relaxes. That can be done, for example Spinning to thin filaments or spraying too fine particles and cooling the filaments or particles happen with liquid or gaseous fluids. Here has surprisingly been shown that by this treatment the nitrogen or nitrogen and heavy metal ent holding connections with pitch-like bituminous Ver material mixture in homogeneous molecularly disperse solution stay.
By evaporation, evaporation or by extractive treatment The resulting solution can be treated with a fluid solvent finely divided active carbon precursor of solvent remnants are freed.
As a supercritical solvent for pitch-like bituminous Fabrics, aromatics containing nitrogen and heavy metals are preferably used alkanes, olefins, one and binuclear aromatics, preferred alkanes with aromatics or olefins mixed with aromatics.
The following examples are intended to explain the process tern without restricting the invention thereto.
A mixture of 500 g isotropic coal tar strains moderate synthetic pitch caused by so-called blowing was created by normal pitch using a method that von Winkler in The coal tar and its Aufar processing, Verlag Glückauf G. m. b. H., Essen, (1951), Page 205 below, is described with a Softening point of 200 ° C, 100 g phenthalocyanin iron and 300 g quinoline is in a stirred autoclave Heated up to 250 ° C and pressed in too much n-butane, until a pressure of 300 bar is reached. Under these Conditions are left until a homogeneous liquid phase has arisen with the supercritical Gas phase in an approximate equilibrium stood coexisted. This state is, depending on the Vehe movement in about 30 minutes to 60 minutes enough. The mixture will then sediment for 30 minutes so that the fluid phases differ from each other can divorce. The lower liquid phase is under Maintaining pressure and temperature over a fine Filtered metal fiber filter and through a nozzle of 0.5 mm inner diameter in a cold methyl alcohol bad relaxed by spraying, about one or two Contains 2% by weight sulfuric acid to extract the chi nolins from those formed under 0.4 mm in diameter measuring spherical particles. The washed and Dried particles are the primary product for manufacturers position catalytically active hard spherical active carbon particles.
Beispiel 1 wird unter sonst gleichen Bedingungen unter Verminderung des Chinolinanteils auf 200 g wiederholt mit dem weiteren Unterschied, daß die Lösung des Vor produktes über eine Spinndüsenplatte mit kreisförmi gen Spinndüsenöffnungen von 0,2 mm Durchmesser als Filamente entspannt und abgekühlt wird, und zwar so, daß das entstehende Filament mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 5 m/s über eine Umlenkrolle durch das Methanolbad abgezogen wird, auf eine Spule aufgewickelt wird und dort mit Wasser gewaschen wird. das Vorprodukt hat einen Filamentdurchmesser von ca. 0,01 mm.Example 1 is under otherwise identical conditions Repeat reduction of the quinoline content to 200 g with the further difference that the solution of the pre product over a spinneret plate with circular against 0.2 mm diameter spinneret openings as Filaments is relaxed and cooled in such a way that the resulting filament at a speed of 5 m / s over a deflection roller through the methanol bath is withdrawn, wound on a spool and is washed there with water. the The primary product has a filament diameter of approx. 0.01 mm.
Example 3 below demonstrates that the activated carbon precursors actually produced are suitable, the catalytically active active to produce coal products.
The filaments wound on a spool, which in Example 2 were obtained with a heating rate of 3 ° C / min warmed up to 150 ° C and with it Air flows around. Then the temperature for 30 min kept constant. Then with a heating rate heated from 1 ° C / min to 300 ° C and at that temperature held again for 30 min. even during these phases the filaments are treated with air. After that are the filaments are infusible. With a heating rate of 5 ° C / min the filaments in a nitrogenate heated to a temperature of 850 ° C and then at this temperature for 3 hours with steam treated. The cooled filaments have after this Treatment a toluene holding capacity at 20 ° C of 35 wt .-% when in a toluene atmosphere Adsorption equilibrium stand, the 10 g / m³ toluene contains.
Zur Untersuchung der katalytischen Aktivität der auf die Spule aufgewickelten Aktivkohlefilamente wird die Ausdehnung der Massenübergangszone für die ReaktionTo study the catalytic activity of the the coil wound activated carbon filaments is the Expansion of the mass transition zone for the reaction
untersucht.examined.
This reaction that occurs in the presence of activated carbon expires, is the basis of some flue gas cleaning ver drive. The examination procedure used here is based on the European patent 01 66 770 described continuous flue gas cleaning ver start with activated carbon fiber fleece. A flue gas that is produced by burning heating oil, whose sulfur content is set to 1% by weight and that still has an oxygen content of approx. 4% holds, is tempered to 50 ° C and by the the bobbin wound filaments from the bobbin led inside out. This happens so that the flue gas at a rate of 1 m / s, based on the mean free cross-section of the cylindrical activated carbon fiber filter, the active flows through carbon fiber winder. The coil set in rotation so that in the activated carbon winding sets an acceleration of approx. 100 g. Before the flue gas flow enters the activated carbon The flue gas is wound with an aerosol generator humidified so that the as a reak product thrown out of the coil sulfur acid reaches a concentration of approx. 25% by weight. The filament winder has a density of approx. 50 g / l. After constant conditions have arisen, has a mass transition zone in the filament set a length of 19 mm, at the more than or equal to 95% of the SO₂ content in the smoke gas is converted to sulfuric acid.
Example 2 is used under otherwise identical conditions repeated, with the only difference that 600 g Weighed coal pitch synthetic pitch the, but no phthalocyanine iron added becomes. The activated carbon fiber pre-product is under otherwise the same conditions as in Example 3 however, oxidized at 150 ° C for 60 min and also oxidized at 300 ° C for 60 min and at Activated with steam at 850 ° C for 6 h.
Under these conditions there is also a Toluene absorption capacity of 35% by weight, i.e. H. the ad sorption properties are comparable to those of Activated carbon fibers from example 3.
Die katalyti sche Aktivität beträgt also weniger als ein Drittel derjenigen Fasern aus Beispiel 3.Compared to those containing nitrogen and iron Activated carbon fibers in Example 3 require that finally a pitch-derived activated carbon fiber 70 mm, by more than 95% of the Degrading the SO₂ content in the flue gas. The catalytic activity is less than a third those fibers from Example 3.
