Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a hollow electron gun according to the preamble of the claim.
Hollow beams emitted by such cannons produce high frequencies quenz waves in gyrotrons z. B. in fusion plasmas heating are irradiated or in the radar technology for measurement used for purposes.
In gyrotrons there are two types of electron beam guns used, mainly the magnetron type, short MIG (Magne tron Injection Gun) and the University Sydney type.
The MIG type is characterized by the emitter ring embedded on the outer surface of the truncated cone-shaped cathode. The frustoconical arrangement of the cathode with the emitter ring causes the electric field E and the magnetic field B to form an angle with one another in the region of the emitter surface. As a result, electrons that emerge from the emitter experience a Lorentz force, which leads to a gyration movement of the electrons around the assembly field lines. This gyration movement forms, with respect to the axis of the beam gun, the transverse component of the electrons moving in the axial direction like a corkscrew. The size of the transverse component is essentially determined by the size of the × drift in the area of the emitter. From a microscopic point of view, the size of the transverse speed of the electrons in a MIG gun is sensitive to the roughness of the emitter surface. This means that the scattering of the transverse velocity in the electron beam is strongly influenced by the nature of the emitter surface.
The space charge distributed in front of the emitter surface is open an uneven density distribution due to the MIG electrode arrangement tion in the direction of the axis of symmetry. Space charge effects work therefore different degrees on the extracted electrons out. The operation of MIG's is very good due to this property limited because the beam quality under these effects entirely suffers significantly.
B. in J. M. Baird, W. Lawson, Int. J. Electronics, 1986, Vol. 61, No. 6, 953-967 und M. Caplan, C. Thorington, Int. J. Electronics, 1981, Vol. 51, No. 4, 415-426 beschrieben.The prior art for the MIG type is e.g. B. in J.M. Baird, W. Lawson, Int. J. Electronics, 1986, Vol. 61, No. 6, 953-967 and M. Caplan, C. Thorington, Int. J. Electronics, 1981, Vol. 51, No. 4, 415-426.
Die gattungsgemäße Elektronenhohlstrahlkanone ist aus J. Y. L. Ma, "A New Cylindrial Electron Gun for Low-Power Tunable Gy rotrons with high Magnetic Compression Ratios", IEEE Transac tions on Microware Theory and Techniques, Vol. MTT 33, No. 4, April 1985, P. 323-327 bekannt. The generic electron beam gun is from J. Y. L. Ma, "A New Cylindrial Electron Gun for Low-Power Tunable Gy rotrons with high magnetic compression ratios ", IEEE Transac tions on Microware Theory and Techniques, Vol. MTT 33, No. 4, April 1985, P. 323-327. This electron beam beam none, also known as the University of Sydney type the electrons from a concentric to the axis of symmetry in the face of the cathode is flush with the ring. It takes place thus the extraction in the parallel electrical and ma genetic field. However, complete shielding of the Ka not against the anode due to the electrode arrangement guaranteed. The electron current is therefore not switchable. The Beam property exhibits a high speed spread of the Electrons on.
The invention has for its object in an electron hollow beam cannon like the University Sydney type the Elektro to interpret the geometry so that the electron current is switchable and that the electrons in parallel electric and magnetic field are emitted and there them after a transverse speed component lower Control is forced.
The object is achieved in that on the floor a cathode, a ring concentric to the axis of symmetry is left, which easily emits electrons. This Electron emission ring there is final or digging deeply recessed. Through a gap from the cathode separated, is an annular modulation anode at the level of End of the cylindrical cathode part concentric to the sym metric axis attached. Finally there is a tubular one or hollow cylindrical anode for extracting the electron radiant.
The concentric electrode arrangement is in one Magnetic field, whose field lines in the area of the emission ring only have axial components and thus perpendicular to the gap facing, flat surface of the emitter ring.
The electrical potential of the modulation differs anode from that of the cathode, then an electric field acts in the gap spaces, the electric field lines also perpendicular - and thus parallel to the magnetic field - on the surface of the emitter ring.
Electrons emitted by the free ring surface of the electron emis emerge sion ring towards the gap, are first by the there vertical field into the gap accelerates. A sufficiently high electrical potential the modulation anode gives the electric field in the gap one radial portion, so that the electrons move there radially get stamped and then finally because of the axial magnetic field on a corkscrew-like Move the web in the direction of the axis.
The advantages achieved by the invention are that considerably smaller electrical field strengths on the Emit surface for the initially longitudinal movement of the kicked electrons are necessary. The roughness of the emit The surface is therefore less sensitive to scattering the transverse movement of the electrons. Through that on the free surface of the emission ring standing vertically, electric and magnetic field is an emission operation about the entire current range up to the limits of raumla limited emission possible. Most of the radial or transverse movement (gyration) is the elec trons in the gap between cathode and modulation anode shapes.
Es zeigtAn embodiment of the invention in the form of a numeri simulation is shown in the drawing and is shown in described below. It shows

Fig. 2 results of a numerical simulation with a flat final electron emission ring.
In Fig. 1, the coaxial electrode structure is shown schematically with a section through the axis of symmetry. Concentric to the axis of symmetry 6 in the bottom of the cathode 1 around the cylin-shaped elevation of the cathode 2, the emission ring 3 is embedded in a trench. The open, flat surface of the emission ring 3 points to the gap 5 . The annular, flat modulation anode 4 is concentric with the cathode 1, 2 and is separated from it by the gap space 5 . To the right, concentrically, through the anode gap space 7, separates the tubular anode 8 .
With this concentric electrode geometry it is ensured that the electric field is parallel or antiparallel to the external axial magnetic field on the free surface of the emission ring 3 and emerging electrons are accelerated into the gap space immediately.
In Fig. 2, the local, quantitative course of the axially directed ge external magnetic field 9 is drawn in association with the electrode geometry. The potential lines 10 are indicated in the two gap spaces 5, 7 . The numerical simulation shows the section through the hollow electron beam or the beam trajectories 11 . In this case, the electron emission ring is flush with the cathode. The optimal arrangement of the electrodes as well as the embedding of the emission ring results from numerical simulation, since an analytical solution is no longer possible.
