Erfindungs gemäß wird diese Aufgabe durch die im kennzeichnenden Teil des Anspruchs 1 angegebenen Merkmale gelöst. Die Vorrichtung besteht aus einer ersten Lichtschranke 12 und einer zweiten Lichtschranke 16, die jeweils aus einer Lichtquelle 12′, 16′ und einem Lichtsensor 12′′, 16′′ bestehen. Bei schnell erfolgenden Bremsvorgängen (sogenannten "Notbremsungen") ist die Zeitdauer zwischen der Unter brechung der ersten Lichtschranke 12 bis zum Unterbre chen der zweiten Lichtschranke 16 gering, bei "norma len" Bremsvorgängen ist diese Zeitdauer dagegen relativ lang. Durch Erfassen des zeitlichen Abstandes zwischen den Unterbrechungen der Lichtschranken 12, 16 durch eine elektronische Schaltung 22 kann so zuverlässig festgestellt werden, ob der Fahrer eine Notbremsung beabsichtigt. Unterschreitet der Zeitabstand zwischen der Unterbrechung der beiden Lichtschranken 12, 16 eine vorgegebene Grenze (diese wird im msec Bereich liegen), werden die Bremsleuchten 20 schon zum Aufleuchten ge bracht, bevor der Fuß des Fahrers die Bremspedale 14 auch nur erreicht.The two light barriers are interrupted when the foot is changed from the accelerator pedal 10 to the brake pedal 14 , the first light barrier 12 and then the second light barrier 16 being interrupted first.
