Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for producing test gas mixtures with nitrogen oxides such as NO and / or NO 2 for the calibration of NO / NO 2 analyzer. The invention also relates to a device for performing such a method.
Bislang verwendete Verfahren zur Herstellung von Prüfgasgemischen mit Stickstoffoxiden wie NO und/oder NO2, allgemein also NO/NO X -Prüfgasge mischen, zur Kalibrierung derartiger Analysatoren sind in verschiedener Form bekannt (vgl. u. a. DE-PS 29 04 872). Kurzgefaßt sind derzeit folgen de Kalibrierungsverfahren bekannt.Processes used hitherto for producing test gas mixtures with nitrogen oxides such as NO and / or NO 2, generally therefore mixing NO / NO X test gas, for the calibration of such analyzers are known in various forms (cf., inter alia, DE-PS 29 04 872). In short, the following calibration methods are currently known.
In a first known method, a commercial test is used worked gas mixture. Commercial test gas mixtures are regarding their concentrations are not reliable on the one hand, but unstable on the other. These test gas mixtures are usually present in high concentrations given, so that an additional dilution is required.
In a further known method, permeation tubes are used for Nitrogen dioxide worked. This is relatively expensive and through chemical ver Changes in nitrogen dioxide due to impurities in the outlet gases are not optimally reliable. In addition, only nitrogen dioxide is so obtained so that nitrogen oxide either additionally by a test gas a storage bottle or by reduction on one High temperature converter must be generated.
Finally, titration of nitrogen oxide with ozone is also used of nitrogen dioxide in the gas phase possible. For this purpose, however, is nitrogen oxide required as a starting product. There are also complicated dosing facilities necessary.
The invention is based on the object, one for practical use optimally suitable, easy to carry out manufacturing process of test gas mixtures of the type in question and one for implementation to specify a suitable device of such a method.
The process according to the invention, in which the above-mentioned object is achieved, is characterized in that a gas mixture containing molecular oxygen and nitrogen, preferably air, in particular synthetic air, is passed through a reaction zone that a considerable, precisely determined increase in temperature in the reaction zone of the gas mixture and thereby certain concentrations of nitrogen oxide (NO) and possibly also nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) are achieved, that the concentration distribution in the gas mixture emerging from the reaction zone is stabilized and that the gas mixture leaving the reaction zone serves as a test gas mixture. According to the invention, it has been recognized that, surprisingly, a method for producing test gas mixtures for the calibration of NO / NO 2 analyzers, which has been known for decades as a direct oxidation of molecular nitrogen and oxygen for the production of nitrogen oxide in the production of nitric acid, can be used. In the course of the production of nitric acid, the process known as direct oxidation has lost any technical importance because of the much cheaper possibility of ammonia oxidation. It is surprising that this method can be used well for the production of test gas mixtures in the manner described. This is due to the fact that it is not a matter of a high yield as a percentage, but that it is a matter of being able to maintain a possibly low yield with great accuracy as a percentage. This is achieved surprisingly by the suitable choice of the temperature in the reaction zone and the flow rate of the gas mixture through the reaction zone. As tests have shown, the absolute concentration of nitrogen oxide or nitrogen dioxide in the emerging test gas mixture can be set extremely precisely. This provides a method for calibrating analyzers of the type in question, which is technically very simple and inexpensive to carry out and is extremely accurate, and in which in particular any auxiliary gas other than nitrogen and oxygen, in particular therefore air, can be dispensed with.
From a post-published prior art a method is known which is comparatively simple, inexpensive to carry out and accurate, which is characterized in that an oxygen-containing carrier gas, in particular air, ammonia (NH 3 ) in a certain amount to achieve a certain Concentration of ammonia in the carrier gas is admixed that the carrier gas / ammonia mixture passes over or through a reaction of the ammonia with the oxygen-promoting catalyst material of a certain temperature and thereby the ammonia with oxygen with high efficiency to nitrogen oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) and possibly other combustion products is burned and that the gas mixture leaving the catalyst material serves as a test gas mixture. However, this process still suffers from the fact that ammonia has to be added to the carrier gas. This technique, known as the Oswald process, is considerably more economical than direct oxidation for the production of nitric acid on a large industrial scale, but it has surprisingly been shown to the extent that direct oxidation in the present context, that is, in the manufacture of Test gas mixtures for calibration is equivalent or even superior.
Further advantageous refinements and developments of the fiction, ge moderate method are in claims 2 to 11 subordinate to claim 1 described. These claims will be read in conjunction with the explanation the drawing further explained. However, it should be emphasized here that the Catalyst material expediently platinum, a platinum / iridium compound, a platinum / rhodium compound or the like on a carrier material, in particular which is on silica pellets, on a support network or the like.
An inventive device for performing the Ver driving is characterized in that a feed unit for the gas mixture, in particular air, and at least one reaction path are provided that the output of the supply unit via a flow connection to the input the reaction path is connected, and that the reaction path one, before preferably elongated, flow channel for the gas mixture and a Flow channel surrounding, preferably also elongated, heating has coat.
Further advantageous configurations of the device according to the invention are described in claims 13 to 19. Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawing, first Ver the invention can be driven for the production of test gas mixtures including nitrogen oxides such as NO and / or NO 2 for the calibration of NO / NO 2 analyzers well understand. This method is characterized in that a molecular oxygen and nitrogen-containing gas mixture, preferably air, in particular synthetic air, is passed through a reaction zone in that a considerable, precisely determined increase in temperature of the gas mixture takes place in the reaction zone and thereby certain concentrations of nitrogen oxide ( NO) and possibly also of stock dioxide (NO 2 ) that the concentration distribution in the gas mixture emerging from the reaction zone is stabilized and that the gas mixture leaving the reaction zone serves as a test gas mixture.
Depending on the temperature in the reaction zone, moleku reacts Larger nitrogen and molecular oxygen also directly to a small extent, so that direct NO generation occurs in relatively small percentages.
To get reasonably high percentages, are relatively high temps required. For this purpose, it can be recommended, for example, that the Gas mixture in the reaction zone through an arc discharge zone exactly certain temperature is conducted. Other direct techniques Oxidation of nitrogen and oxygen are from the manufacturing area known from nitric acid (Birkeland process, Schönherr furnace, Pauling- Process, Siebert oven etc.).
You can work with lower temperatures if you use the direct one Oxidation of nitrogen and oxygen by a catalyst material relieved. To this extent, the gas mixture in the reaction zone is about or by a direct reaction of the oxygen with the nitrogen promoting catalyst material of a certain temperature, preferably one Temperature above 570 K, is passed. This is a particularly preferred one Version of the method according to the invention. It is useful that the Platinum catalyst material, a platinum / iridium compound, a platinum / Rhodium compound or the like. On a carrier material, in particular on silica Pellets, on a support network or the like.
Of particular importance from a process engineering point of view is a procedure which characterized in that the concentration of nitrogen oxide and possibly also of nitrogen dioxide in the test gas mixture by changing the temperature in the reaction zone, in particular the temperature of the catalyst material is controlled. This control is particularly easy and precise. Each higher the temperature in the reaction zone, especially the temperature of the catalyst material, the higher the concentration of stick Substance oxide or nitrogen dioxide in the test gas mixture. Expediently the actual concentration of nitrogen oxide in the test gas mixture abge on the measuring range to be calibrated of the downstream analyzer Right. It is particularly expedient to close in the upper third of the measuring range calibrate. It is also useful to control the concentration also the flow velocity of the gas in the reaction zone, in particular to change especially in the area of the catalyst material. With given Temperature and predetermined flow rate emerge from the reaction stretch a test gas mixture with a precisely determined concentration of nitrogen oxide and nitrogen dioxide. You can now see the concentration in the test gas mix, who are kept constant according to the procedure explained above the can, if necessary, set as the maximum concentration and by diluting the Test gas mixture in a subsequent dilution section is too precise agreed, lower concentrations come.
In the process of direct oxidation according to the invention, it can under Um would come to that the stick just formed in the reaction line material oxide decomposes relatively quickly. Consequently, it can be felt len that the gas mixture emerging from the reaction zone from a shock is cooled.
The nitrogen oxide formed can react further with excess atmospheric oxygen to form nitrogen dioxide, depending on how high the excess of oxygen is. If you want a particularly high yield of nitrogen dioxide, it is recommended that oxygen is also present as ozone (O 3 ). In this context, it is advisable from a process engineering point of view that the gas mixture normally only contains molecular oxygen, as is the case, for example, in dry air. The gas mixture can then optionally be mixed with ozone. This ozone can come from a storage bottle and be mixed with the gas mixture in the true sense of the word, but it can also be generated in the gas mixture itself by supplying energy to molecular oxygen in a manner known per se (ozonization by supplying light energy, for example from a Mercury vapor lamp).
If you want to calibrate an analyzer in different measuring ranges, so it is recommended that by connecting several reaction sections in parallel with different temperatures several different concentrations of Nitrogen oxide and / or nitrogen dioxide optionally generated in the test gas mixture will. Especially recommended for several reaction sections connected in parallel a downstream dilution section for the reasons explained above.
Fig. 1 now shows a schematic, block-like representation of an embodiment example of an apparatus for performing a previously described procedural method. This device is initially characterized in that a feed unit 1 for a gas mixture, in particular air, and at least one reaction line 2 are provided, that the output of the feed unit 1 is connected via a flow connection 3 to the input of the reaction line 2 and that for control purposes the flow in the reaction path 2 different valves, in particular metering valves 4 , are provided. By adjusting the metering valves 4 , the volume flow of the gas mixture in the flow connection 3 is set. This volume flow enters reaction zone 2 and flows through the catalyst material located there, for example platinum on silica pellets. By accurately controlling the temperature in the reaction zone 2 of the reaction section 2 at the output of a test gas with a precisely determined concentration of nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO 2) occur. In the embodiment shown here who who using a catalyst material and at different temperatures of the catalyst material over 573 K z. B. reached a concentration of 40 ppbNO and a concentration of 700 ppbNO with a constant 100 ppbNO 2 . This is done in the embodiment shown here in that the gas mixture over a distance of 20 mm and with a flow cross section of 50 mm 2 flows through the catalyst material located at the appropriate temperature.
A NO concentration of 40 ppb can be used, for example, for an analyzer in the measuring range with a maximum deflection of 50 ppb NO. A concentration of 700 ppbNO in the test gas mixture allows an analyzer to be calibrated with a measuring range of up to 1,000 ppbNO. It is obvious that these are only example calculations for a possibly particularly frequently used analyzer type.
Fig. 2 shows the structure of a reaction path 2 of the device shown in Fig. 1 Darge somewhat more precisely. It can be seen that the reaction section 2, preferably elongated flow channel surrounding, also preferably elongated, having a heating jacket 6 5 for the gas mixture and a flow channel 5 a. It can also be seen that an insert 7 with catalyst material is arranged in a flow channel 5 . The heating jacket 6 can include a heater of any kind, for example also an infrared heater, an induction heater or the like. It is essential that the catalyst material is heated as uniformly as possible over its flow length to one and the same temperature.
As shown in Fig. 2 further shows, the insert 7 in the herein shown and be preferred exemplary example of two end-side, with axial spacing from each other in the flow duct 5 is arranged, which fills the flow channel 5, but gas-permeable plugs 8 and the catalyst material 9 is located between the plug 8 . The plugs 8 in the exemplary embodiment shown here consist of quartz wool. For the material of the plug 8 , it is important that it is sufficiently heat-resistant, that it is sufficiently permeable to gas in order not to offer a flow resistance that is too high for the gas flow, and that it is sufficiently tight to hold the catalyst material 9 between the plug 8 include safely. The catalyst material 9 can be in different forms between the plugs 8 , for example in the form of the already mentioned silica pellets, for example silica pellets with a diameter of 1 to 2 mm up to a diameter of 3 mm and more, but also in the form a carrier network, carrier fabric or the like coated with the catalyst material. It is essential to achieve the largest possible effective surface for the catalyst material.
It has previously been explained that the catalyst material 9 should be heated as evenly as possible. Serves the arrangement seen in FIG. 2, preferred of the catalyst 9 in the reaction section 2, namely in the output of the reaction section 2 facing half of the heating jacket. 6 Up to this point, the gas mixture flowing in the flow channel 5 has already reached a sufficiently high temperature so that the catalyst material 9 can no longer be cooled unevenly.
As has already been explained, it can be advisable to have a higher proportion of nitrogen dioxide in the test gas mixture for certain calibration conditions. Then it is necessary to provide a very high excess of atmospheric oxygen, preferably of atomic atmospheric oxygen. For this purpose, it is then advisable to connect an ozone source upstream of the reaction zone 2, or an energy source which can generate ozone and thus ultimately atomic oxygen from molecular oxygen by supplying energy. A mercury vapor lamp, for example, can serve as such.
Fig. 1 makes it clear that it may be appropriate that several reaction sections 2 a , b ... are connected to each other in parallel to the flow connection 3 . In the first reaction zone 2 a , for example, a first concentration of nitrogen oxide can then be generated in the test gas mixture, for example the aforementioned concentration of 40 ppbNO, while in the second reaction zone 2 b a second concentration, for example of the aforementioned 700 ppbNO, can be generated . By opening the Ven tile 10 , the desired concentration can be fed to the analyzer 13 shown schematically in FIG. 1.
Fig. 1 is further characterized by the fact that the output of the reaction line 2 or the outputs of the reaction lines 2 a , b ... possibly via valves 10 , opens into a dilution path 11 . In the Darge presented and preferred embodiment here applies further that the Ver thinning 11 at the input a mass flow meter 12 , in particular a thermal mass flow meter, is connected upstream and via the mass flow meter 12 a precisely metered amount of diluent gas, in particular air, can be fed into the dilution section 11 . The addition of a dilution section 11 has the advantage that the concentration at the outlet of the reaction section 2 can be specified as a fixed maximum concentration and then a particularly precise and controlled dilution to desired concentrations in the dilution section 11 is achieved. For this purpose, the mass flow meter 12 is particularly particularly suitable in the illustrated and preferred exemplary embodiment.
By opening a valve 10 , a reaction section 2 a , b ... can be connected to the dilution section 11 , and by adjusting the mass flow meter 12 , the concentration of nitrogen oxide or nitrogen dioxide ultimately fed to the analyzer 13 is then exactly determined. By closing the previously opened valve 10 and opening a further Ven valve 10 a parallel reaction path 2 b , a ... you can switch to one at their measuring range and, if necessary, change the setting of the mass flow meter 12 again at the same time.
Fig. 3 now shows a schematic representation in a further embodiment, for example, how the test gas mixture generated according to FIGS . 1 and 2 is now supplied from the dilution section 11 to the analyzer 13 in detail. 3 by the light coming from the dilution section 11 test gas mixture is fed to a three-way valve 15 via an excess-outflow fitting 14 in Fig.. By means of the three-way valve 15 , the analyzer 13 can either switch to the measurement input 16 or to the dilution section 11 for calibration. If the analyzer 13 is connected to the measurement input 16 , test gas mixture flowing in from the dilution section 11 can possibly be added via the Outflow excess discharge nozzle 14 . But even if the analyzer 13 is switched to the dilution section 11 , a little test gas mixture must always flow out through the excess discharge nozzle 14 so that no outside air is drawn into the analyzer. Test gas mixture must therefore always flow in excess from the dilution section 11 to the analyzer 13 so that the boundary conditions required for the calibration are really complied with exactly.
