Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a membrane for the liquid separation, which is used to separate a mixture Water and an organic liquid or a Ge mix of an organic liquid and one other organic liquid during an evaporation method using a membrane can be used. The invention also relates to a separation ver drive through evaporation using the previously mentioned membrane.
In the past one used as a method of separation a mixture of water and an organic river the so - called "evaporation process by means of a Membrane "is used in this process from water and the organic liquid that separated should be in the hydration page ("Upstream chamber") initiated by two chambers, which are separated by a separating membrane. The pressure on the side where the liquid passes, ("stream down chamber ") is lowered, or it is in the Downstream chamber maintained a low vapor pressure obtained by passing an inert gas through it. Thereby it is possible that the component with higher Affinity for the membrane preferred by the membrane enters the downstream chamber as steam. In the Literature uses various methods for deduction mixture of water and organic liquid using the evaporation process a membrane described. For example the separation of azeotropic liquid mixtures un ter using a cellulose acetate membrane or Polyvinyl alcohol membrane described (U.S. Patent 2,953,502); the separation of a liquid mixture from water and Methanol in the presence of sodium formate with Ver application of a cellophane membrane [J. Polymer Sci., Symposium No. 41, 145-153 (1973)]; a process for Separation of a liquid mixture from water and Methanol: using a grafted polyvinyl alcohol membrane [Journal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 16 (1981), page 3223]; and the separation of one Mixture of water and organic liquid under Use of synthetic, polymeric membranes with a content of ion groups (JP-AS 10548/1979, 10549/1979 and 49041/1984).
In contrast to the reverse osmosis process, the Ver evaporation method using a membrane is not on the concentration of liquid mixtures, be due to the osmotic pressure, limited. It is therefore not on the separation of liquid mixtures limited with low concentrations, but can also on liquid mixtures of all concentration ranges rich are applied. It still has the advantage part that it is for the separation of azeotropic mixtures or of isomers with narrow boiling points (e.g. o- or p-isomeric mixtures or a mixture of cis and trans isomers), which are difficult to achieve by distillation are separate, can be used.
The used in the known evaporation process Separation membranes, however, have the following disadvantages and have therefore not yet found any technical application. In particular, the ratio of separation at one Passage of a mixture of liquids through the polymeric membrane, d. H. the "separation factor α", low, the mixture must be passed through the membrane several times to separate the components or to the ge wanted to concentrate concentrations. It is un possible to take full advantage of the membrane separation process to take advantage of constantly. The "separation factor α" is the Quotient from the weight ratio of component A to component B after passing through the membrane, divided by the weight ratio of component A to component B before it passes through the membrane, and is generally represented by the following equation shown:
worin WA das Gewicht der Komponente A und WB das Gewicht der Komponente B bedeuten.where W A is the weight of component A and W B is the weight of component B.
In particular, the known evaporation process using a membrane the separation factor is very low if the permeation rate at which the liquid through the polymeric membrane penetrates, (generally as the amount of liquid indicated that per membrane surface unit and per Time unit, d. H. "Q" (kg / m² · h), penetrates) one assumes high value.
All known separation membranes have a separation factor of the several tenfold (or several ten) and their separation performance is low. You also own not completely satisfactory water resistant strength and mechanical strength.

It is not necessary that all cationic groups and / or anionic groups in the separation membranes the counter anions and / or the counter cations salts bil and some of these groups can be free. Before trains form at least 0.5 mol%, preferably 5 to 100 mol% and in particular 15 to 100 mol%, the cat ionic groups and / or the anionic group salts with the counter anions and / or counter cations.
The following is a membrane of the anionic Polysac charid type based on a polysaccharide of Alginic acid type explained in more detail.
Alginic acid is a viscous polyuronic acid, which consists of brown seaweed, such as kelp, is extracted. she is a block copolymer made from M-M blocks from D-mannuronic acid residues (M) with a β- (1 → 4) bond, from G-G blocks of L-gluronic acid residues (G) with an α- (1 → 4) bond and M-G blocks that alternate rend arranged M and G residues, exists. Alginic acid forms with an alkali, such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide, a salt and easily dissolves in Water. By pouring a solution of an alginic acid salt on a flat plate, like a glass plate, and let spontaneous drying be a transparent, homogeneous film of the alginate are formed. Will one Solution of the alginate salt with a water-soluble, organic solvents such as ethanol, isopropanol or Acetone, or with a concentrated saline solution delt, the alginate coagulates and precipitates. Under Using this property can be a wet-coagulated Film of alginate. With ionization the polysaccharide membrane of the alginic acid type (a poly saccharide of the alginic acid type means alginic acid and their derivatives, such as those given above as an example) are ions that are used as counter cations can, for example the aforementioned metal ions, Ammonium ions and ammonium ions made from polyamines or amines with a nitrogen-containing hetero cyclic structure are formed. At that time You can spot a variety of types of counter cations use at the same time. Suitable ion sources are for example salts or hydroxides for the metal ions and ammonium salts or amines for the ammonium ions. A Polysaccharide membrane of the ionized alginic acid type, which are the counter cat listed above as examples contains ions can be made by using a Polysaccharide membrane of the alginic acid type or a Polysaccharide salt membrane of the alginic acid type into one Immersed solution containing the cations, whereby ion exchange takes place, or by such a membrane of evaporation using a Subjects liquid mixture, which this cat contains ions, one after the other an ion exchange takes place.
The appropriate content of counter cations in the Invention according membrane depends on the type of counter cations and of the liquid mixture to be separated and can appropriately probe according to the respective System can be selected. For example, if the liquid mixture that is to be separated, a water Is ethanol mixture, is the content of counter cations one that is sufficient, at least 2 mol%, preferably as 5 to 100 mol% and in particular 15 to 100 mol%, based on the amount of algin in the polysaccharide acid present carboxyl groups to ionize.
Since membranes of the anionic polysaccharide type finally, polysaccharide membranes of the alginic acid type are hydrophilic, the properties of the membranes strongly influenced by the concentration of water, if the liquid mixture to be separated a mixture of water and an organic liquid is. The appropriate concentration of the organic liquid speed at which the membranes of the anionic, ionized High performance polysaccharide type depends on the type of membrane, the type of counterions and the type the organic liquid and is therefore on ge appropriate way according to the particular System selected. For example, it is with the door a mixture of water and ethanol with Ver using a membrane made of sodium alginate preferred, the separation in an ethanol concentration of at least 70% by weight, preferably at least 85% by weight, perform.
If the polysaccharide membrane of the alginic acid type under Use of at least one type of multivalued Metal ions to be ionized as counter cations, e.g. B. using alkaline earth metals such as calcium, Strontium and barium, transition metals such as titanium, Chrome, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, Silver, zircon, europium, cerium and rhodium, and metals of groups IIIB or IVB, such as aluminum and tin crosslinking takes place simultaneously with the ionization. As a result, the water resistance of the Membrane. If in particular a mixture of water and an organic liquid with this membrane delt, the concentration range of the liquid mixture in which the membrane is used can, compared to non-crosslinked membranes. In the present invention, it is preferred to add a salt between 9 and 70 mol%, preferably 20 and 60 mol%, of the ionic groups in the membrane with the aforementioned to form polyvalent metal ions and thus a Vernet to perform. When separating a mixture organic liquid using a non cross-linked membrane, the membranes should be chosen who that the concentration of the organic liquid corresponding mixture. However, membranes are ver which crosslinks with polyvalent metal ions a single type of membrane is sufficient for the loading handling of organic liquid mixtures with ver different concentrations, with a high separation factor and a high permeation rate stay.
The ratio of "networking" as it is related is used with the membrane according to the invention, be indicates the proportion (mol%) of carboxyl groups that are ionic are bound to the multivalent cross-linking metal ions, based on the total amount of carboxyl groups Alginic acid if the membrane is of the alginic acid salt type heard. The crosslinking ratio is obtained by the amount of polyvalent crosslinking metal ions by atomic absorptiometry, and the crosslinking ver Ratio calculated by assuming that the carboxyl groups of alginic acid ionically stoichiometric to all polyvalent metal ions are bound. With regard other polysaccharide-type anionic membranes the cross-linking ratio essentially corresponding the above method.
Crosslinking is preferred for water resistance and the mechanical strength of the anionic Polysac increase charid membranes. Networking cannot only according to the previously mentioned networking procedure under Using polyvalent metal ions, but also according to a chemical cross-linking process, such as a method in which an ester bond between the OH groups or COOH groups of the polysaccharide using an or ganic polybasic acid or a polyvalent Al alcohol is formed, or a process in which Acetal bonds between the OH groups of the polysaccharide using an aldehyde, etc. These chemical crosslinking methods can be used individually or combined with each other or combined with the previously mentioned networking method using polyvalent metal ions are used.
The ionization and crosslinking processes can also directly with other anionic Polysac charid.
Polyvalent metal ions can with the Polysaccha Alginic acid type rid membrane, for example according to one Process coordinated in which the polysaccharide of the alginic acid type under an evaporation treatment Use a membrane with a mixture of water and organic liquid containing more is subjected to valuable metal salt.
One can also use a process in which the polysaccharide membrane of the alginic acid type is immersed in a solution, which contains the polyvalent metal salt to the polyvalent coordinate metal ions. The latter procedure ren is preferred because the polysaccharide membrane of Type of alginic acid obtained in this way immediately for the Evaporation can be used if you put it in a Evaporation device installed.
Whether the polyvalent metal ions in the membrane coordinate nated or not, can be done by atomic absorptiometry be determined. For some types of metal ions the treated membrane has a color that corresponds to the ent standing complex is inherent. As a simple procedure can therefore form an alginic acid metal salt membrane can be determined from this discoloration.
The formation of an alginic acid metal salt membrane can from the discoloration of the membrane due to the metal salt inherent color can be detected.
Because including cationic polysaccharide membranes the ionized polysaccharide membranes of the chitosan type are hydrophilic, the properties of the Membra strongly influenced by the water concentration, if the liquid mixture to be separated is a mixture from water and organic liquid. The suitable concentration of organic liquid at which such membranes high performance depends on the type of membrane, the type of counterions and the type of organic Liquid and is therefore ent appropriately ent according to the particular system used selected. For example, it is preferred that Separation of a mixture of water and ethanol one out Sodium alginate manufactured membrane to use the Separation at an ethanol concentration of at least 60% by weight, preferably at least 80% by weight to be able to.
The separation membranes according to the invention generally have mean a thickness of 1 to 300 microns, preferably from 5 to 200 µm. If the thickness is less than the specified size is, the membranes have insufficient strength or water resistance. Bigger thicknesses are not practical because the amount of a liquid mixture that passes through the membrane becomes small. Even if a membrane according to the invention has smaller thickness, it can be used practically by placing them on a support membrane, such as a microporous membrane. In this case, the Thickness of the membrane less than 1 µm, e.g. B. reduced to about 0.1 microns who the.
The separation membranes are usually in flat form used. However, you can also in a cylindri form or in the form of hollow fibers to increase the Surface can be used.
The membrane according to the invention is dried before it is used for Evaporation is used, it can be higher Separation factor when separating a mixture from water and organic liquid. It was particularly special found that when the ionized membrane according to present invention to a water content of not more than 25% by weight, preferably not more than 15% by weight, dried before use for evaporation an even higher separation factor can be obtained. Regarding the drying process of the membrane there there are no particular restrictions, and any, per known methods can be used. At for example, you can ste the membrane in dry air Let it dry or dry it in a vacuum. Becomes useful the polysaccharide membrane according to the invention in a ver given the vaporizer, and before the start of the ver Evaporation will contribute to the downstream side of the membrane reduced pressure of e.g. B. 0.3 mmHg for about Held 10 min by means of a vacuum pump to the membrane to dry, or the membrane can be dewatered by putting them in an organic liquid with a Water content of 0 to 20 wt .-% immersed. Die erfindungsgemäßen Membranen des ionisierten Poly saccharid-Typs sind besonders für die Trennung von Wasser-organische-Flüssigkeit-Gemischen oder Organische-Flüssigkeit-organische-Flüssigkeit-Gemischen, die polare organische Flüssigkeiten, wie Alkohole oder Ke tone enthalten, geeignet. The membranes of the ionized poly according to the invention saccharide-type are particularly useful for the separation of Water-organic-liquid mixtures or Organic-liquid-organic-liquid mixtures that polar organic liquids, such as alcohols or Ke tone included, suitable.
In the present invention, any one can be knew evaporation or pervaporation devices use. The mixtures of organic liquids can be separated by using known devices conditions under normal conditions (cf. U.S. Patent 2,953,502). When there is evaporation there is greater pressure differences between the side of the mixture feed and the permeate side more effectively. For practical use The pressure difference is preferably 0.5 to 1 atmosphere. The pressure on the side of the mixture feed is preferably atmospheric pressure or close to it lying pressure, and the permeate side is preferred at reduced pressure below the vapor pressure of the held component. The permeate page can be held at reduced pressure by means of evacuation or at low vapor pressure by using a Passes gas that separate with the component of the the liquid mixture does not react. The separated temperature is usually above 40 ° C and below the azeotropic temperature of the mixture to be separated from organic liquid, but is not special limited. If a separated liquid of the ge did not want concentration by means of a single pass direct the liquid mixture through the Invention receive appropriate membrane of the ionized polysaccharide type can be passed through several times by using similar devices in a continuous Nuclear series provides or by evaporation combined with the distillation to make the liquid focus on the desired concentration and separate.
The following examples explain that he membranes according to the invention have a high separation factor itself have at high penetration speeds and excellent water resistance and mechanical Possess strength. The use of the invention Membranes allow an effective treatment of the liquid mixtures at high flow rates ten, while higher separation factors than with separation processes maintained using known membranes will. For this reason, the separation system can be compressed or be made more compact and the treatment Loot increases, which lowers separation costs will. The present invention thus contributes greatly Commercialization of membrane separation processes by the separation and cleaning procedures are simplified. Furthermore, it enables energy savings in chemi and related industries and has a large one Importance for the industry.
As previously stated, a mixture of organic Liquid by evaporation using the he membranes according to the invention with high flow rates skills are treated while high separation factors be maintained. This advantage is in consideration very surprising to the state of the art. There are no clear reason for the advantages of Invention moderate membranes. However, it is theoretically assumed that the ionization of the polysaccharide the affinity of the Membranes for polar molecules (like water) increased and that at the same time the polymer molecules one for the doors suitable form.
