Description
The invention is based on a method for processing of color value signals originating from a video signal source according to the genus of the main claim.
From JE-AS 23 48 588 is a circuit arrangement for gam ma correction of color television transmission systems known where the three in a color television camera by photoelectric Conversion of color value signals R, G, B by means of a electronic matrix are linearly linked to one another the negative proportions of the To provide color mixing curves. With the choice of suitable dimensions trix coefficients can affect the color rendering accordingly flows and be optimized.
When playing color films using a television film this linear matrixing is applied to a to achieve projection-related color reproduction of positive films chen. The projection-related color rendering requires that a Color image on the screen of a television monitor the same Color rendering has, like the direct projection of the film picture on a projection screen.
Furthermore, one of them is in television film scanners different process principle known (magazine Professional Video, September 1984, pages 26, 27), which strives for object-related color rendering. In this, preferably for reproducing negative filming process must be in the color so-called layers of material of the film material Color density crosstalk can be eliminated. Because the color close logarithmic with the transmissions and - with linear image converter characteristic - with the electrical R, G, B signals are linked a correction matrix of the logarithmic R, G, B signals, a so-called logarithmic masking required.
Since with a linear matrixing never one exact object-related and with a logarithmic Never mask an exact projection-related Color rendering was achievable in the the need for switchable projection-related / object-related color rendering getting bigger. This would require a television film scanner switchable both a linear matrixing and also contain a logarithmic mask, making the effort of signal processing strong increases.
Another problem arises with digitization of the video signals to be processed. For the A / D Conversion of linear R, G, B signals to the following Matrixing requires 11 to 12 bit resolution Lich to quantization errors below the view to keep the availability limit. Such A / D converter are very sensitive to signals with video bandwidth agile and not yet monolithic producible. For logarithmic masking the R, G, B signals before the A / D conversion one Submit logarithm. Then for that Visibility limit of the quantization approx. 8 bits suffice. The contrast required for today range from 1 to 275 required characteristic for the However, playback of color films is practical not realizable for video frequencies.
The invention is therefore based on the object to specify a procedure of the type mentioned at the beginning, with which a switchable digital linear Matrixing / logarithmic masking with as much as possible can be achieved with little effort.
The inventive method with the characteristic Features of the main claim has the advantage that the Matriculation and masking with one Assembly, the electronic matrix, feasible is.
By the measures listed in the subclaims are advantageous further developments and improvements of the method specified in the main claim possible. It is particularly advantageous that the color value signals in digital processing to reduce the Visibility of quantization before Digitization be pre-equalized.
An embodiment of the invention is in the Drawing shown and in the following Description explained in more detail.

In Fig. 1 shows a known circuit arrangement for processing video signals for projection-related color reproduction is represented by positive films. Here, by scanning a color film, not shown in the figure, by means of the opto-electrical converters 1 , 2 , 3, color value signals R, G, B are generated, which are each fed to the inputs of a linear matrix 7 via an amplifier stage 4 , 5 , 6 . In this matrix 7 , the color value signals R, G, B are usually linearly linked to one another by a resistance network. At the outputs of the matrix 7 , color value signals R, 'G,' B 'which are influenced and optimized by corresponding matrix coefficients can thus be removed. These matri cated color value signals are then passed through gradation predistortion stages 8 , 9 , 10 and converted into 8-bit digital signals with the aid of A / D converters 11 , 12 , 13 . In a subsequent digital signal processing circuit 14 , the digital video signals are processed in a known manner, such as. B. Conversion of the sequential input signal into an interlaced signal, aperture and other corrections. The digital color value signals which can be taken off at the outputs of the signal processing circuit 14 are then converted in D / A converters 15 , 16 , 17 into analog, gradation-pre-equalized color value signals R 1 / γ , G 1 / γ and B 1 / γ which are applied to the output terminals 18 , 19 , 20 are removable.
In Fig. 2 shows a known circuit for processing video signals proces for the object-related color reproduction, preferably represented in negative films. Here, too, color value signals R, G, B are generated by scanning a color negative film, not shown in the figure, by means of the optoelectric converters 21 , 22 , 23 , which stage 24 , 25 , 26 have the input of an A / D converter via an amplifier 27 , 28 , 29 are supplied. These A / D converters 27 , 28 , 29 must be able to process 12-bit digital signals because of the subsequent gradation predistortion or gamma correction, which is possible, for example, by using two 8-bit A / D converters. These digitized color value signals, which are in linear form, are in subsequent storage units 31 , 32 , 33 , z. B. PROMS with a so-called "look up" table, converted into logarithmic color value signals. The correction required for object-related color reproduction is then carried out in a logarithmic masking stage 34 . The color value signals corrected in this way are then passed through gradation predistortion stages 35 , 36 , 37 and delogarithmized in stages 38 , 39 and 40 . These stages 38 to 40 can also be implemented, for example, by a PROM with a so-called "look up" table. In a following digital signal processing circuit 41 , the supplied color value signals are subjected to further processing as in the circuit according to FIG. 1 and then with the aid of D / A converters 42 , 43 , 44 into analog color value signals R 1 / γ , G 1 / γ and B 1 / γ converted, which are removable at the output terminals 45 , 46 , 47 .
In Fig. 3 is a circuit arrangement for implementing the method according to the invention, wherein also produced by scanning a not shown in the figure, the color film with the aid of optoelek tric transducer 51, 52, 53 color value signals R, G, B and subsequent amplifier stages 54, 55 , 56 are reinforced. These amplified R, G, B signals are then fed to quantization pre-equalization stages 57 , 58 , 59 , the nonlinear transmission characteristic of which is formed in accordance with the CIE - * formula y = 1.16 x 1/3 - 0.16. This transmission characteristic, which is used as a quantization characteristic on the basis of this formula, enables the color value signals in the subsequent A / D converters 61 , 62 , 63 to be digitized only with 8 bits. This saves one additional A / D converter in each of the three color channels compared to known circuits. The three color value signals R, G, B are then fed as 8-bit digital signals to a digital signal processing circuit 64 , in which the color value signals are processed in a manner known per se, such as contour correction, color correction, conversion of the sequential signals into interlaced signals. The outputs of this circuit 64 are each connected to a coding stage 65 , 66 , 67 , which can consist of memory or digital arithmetic circuits with PROMs or RAMs and in which the quantization-pre-equalized color value signals are transcoded into intensity-linear and logarithmic color value signals. These removable at the outputs of the coding stages 65 , 66 , 67 intensity linear or logarithmized color value signals are fed to a matrix 68 with variable coefficients, in which, depending on the signals present, either the intensity linear signals are masked or the logarithmic signals are masked. With the aid of a control signal applied to terminal 69 , a change or adjustment of the coefficients required in each case is possible. Correspondingly corrected linear or logarithmic color value signals can then be removed at the outputs of the matrix 68 . The output signals of the matrix 68 are recoded in the subsequent coding stages 71 , 72 , 73 into logarithmic color value signals. The transcoding in stages 65 to 67 and 71 to 73 takes place here via a switch signal which can be applied to terminal 74 , as a result of which these coding stages are each switched in the same direction. In the case of an intensity-linear input signal, linear matrixing takes place, so that 68 linear color value signals can be removed at the output of the matrix. In the case of a logarithmic input signal, logarithmic masking takes place, so that logarithmic color value signals can be removed at the output. In the coding stages 71 to 73 , logarithmic color value signals are thus generated in any case, which are then processed simultaneously in delogarithmic stages 75 , 76 , 77 and gradation predistortion stages 78 , 79 , 80 . The delogarithmic stages 75 to 77 here generate linear color value signals which are converted into analog color value signals R, G, B by means of the D / A converter 81 , 82 , 83 and can be removed at the output terminals 84 , 85 , 86 . The logarithmic color value signals corrected in the gradation predistortion stages 78 , 79 , 80 γ are converted by means of the D / A converters 87 , 88 , 89 into analog gradation predistorted color value signals R 1 / γ , G 1 / q and B 1 / γ , which on the output terminals 91 , 92 , 93 are removable.
With this inventive circuit arrangement it is thus possible to matrixing without much additional effort by a single matrix array 68, the linear color value signals or to mask the logarithmic color value signals and to derive therefrom simultaneously linear and gradations predistorted color value signals.
