Abstract

Finely divided, electrically conductive particles are dispersed in liquid and suffused into a polymeric filamentary substrate by applying the dispersion to the substrate, the substrate being soluble in the liquid. While the substrate is still wet with the solvent dispersion, it is merged with a support yarn which is also soluble. The solvent is evaporated during subsequent passage of the substrate-support yarn combination causing the filamentary substrate to become intermittently solvent-bonded to the support yarn to form a supported anti-static yarn. The anti-static yarn can be produced continuously by the method.
