Description

The aim of the process is to produce gravure forms which are produced by photo-mechanical means be able to give every required depth by strange copying without manual labor, as well as to prevent that when doctoring the ink is extracted from the printing form by the squeegee.

A more or less transparent material, such as cellon, celluloid, paper and the like, is covered on one side with a 0.06 to 0.08 mm thick layer of chromate gelatin in such a way that the gelatin adheres firmly to its support. The grid plate (transparent lines, black dots) is placed on the chromate gelatin layer and exposed until the grid lines in the gelatin layer are tanned, a process that requires an exposure time of about 3 1 2 to 4 minutes in full sunlight. The grid plate is then removed and the printing plate is exposed from the other side by means of a slide, ie the slide is placed on the transparent support of the chromatic gelatin layer so that the light penetrates through the slide and through the support into the chromate gelatin layer. During exposure, the light rays penetrate the heavily translucent areas of the slide up to the surface of the chromate gelatin layer, so that it is completely tanned. The less transparent parts of the slide let through only so much lichite that only a part of the chromate gelatin layer is tanned, and there under the heavily covered parts of the

Slide shows the chromate gelatin layer is not tanned on exposure, so shows the following result when washing with warm water. The front of the The printing form remains flat insofar as the grid lines remain at the same height over the entire image area, whereas the Exposure from the back of the printing plate corresponds exactly to the image Relief, so that between the parts of the picture where less light has penetrated the grid lines form the depressions that are to hold the printing ink. At the The grid lines are as wide as they are in the surface of the chromate gelatin layer Grid plates are, on the other hand, they are weaker in the depth of the gelatin layer, because that When copying the grid in the depth of the gelatin layer, light does not have as intense an effect can. These extremely fine lines in the depth of the gelatin layer are highlighted by the Exposure using a slide from the back of the printing plate, basically the gelatin layer consolidated so that they cannot collapse when washed out. As a result of that the lines are thinner in depth, they form depressions between the grid lines, which are wider in the depth of the gelatin layer than on the surface. This remains the printing ink sit better in the depressions when doctoring the printing form. Around the printing form and the surface of the gelatin layer are more resistant to the squeegee To make it, it is slightly moistened with acetic acid and then with a thin Zapon lacquer layer coated.
