Abstract

1. Methode for the production of a cathode for chloro-alkali electrolysis, in particular electrolysis by the diaphragm or membrane methode, comprising an underlayer (3) of nickel having a minimum thickness of 30 mu m applied on a carrier (2) of mild steel or steel, and an overlying Raney nickel activating covering layer (4) from which covering layer the aluminium is dissolved subsequently, the carrier (2) having sprayed on to it a dense nickel underlayer (3) of a thickness of up to 60 mu m, the latter having sprayed on to it a covering layer (4) of a thickness of 20 to 60 mu m formed by a mixture of nickel and aluminium powders having a proportion of aluminium of 10 to 50%, by means of plasma jet methods in each case, the covering layer having a porosity within the range from 10 to 50%.
