Description
The invention relates to a catalyst for the conversion of gases and higher hydrocarbons, which on a porous, oxidic carrier a lanthanum and cobalt as active metal components containing coating, obtainable by impregnating the carrier with a solution of thermal easily decomposable lanthanum and cobalt salts, drying and subsequent firing of the impregnated Carrier.

To avoid For these difficulties, combustion in the bores of a ceramic has already been proposed which is coated with a catalyst The catalyst must be on a porous ceramic Carriers are applied in order to achieve a long service life. So that gets through on the other side correspondingly large surfaces achieve a complete implementation of the mixture being crossed out. This is preferably done in perforated stone slabs or a honeycomb ceramic, but also on bodies such as balls, Cylinders and thread-like ceramics.
As a catalyst for fulfilling this task, especially platinum-containing substances have lately been found enforced, but have the disadvantage that platinum of impurities to be burned Hydrocarbons, in particular for example soot and SO2, in the case of afterburning vehicle exhaust gases "poisoned" very quickly and thus becomes ineffective.
Difficulties also arise when using a catalyst known from DE-OS 22 10 365, in which a mixture of cobalt, lanthanum, nickel and uranium is applied as an active metal oxide coating on a porous ceramic support, with LaCoO 3 (lanthanum cobaltite in particular during firing) ) arises. In extensive experiments on which the present invention is based, it has been found that the substance proposed therein cannot be used permanently as a catalyst either, since the nickel component, but also the uranium, causes the catalyst to react with the ceramic carrier and disintegrate it Destroy over time, especially through multi-spinel formation. The specified wide ranges of cobalt and lanthanum also do not result in a usable catalyst in large parts of the mixing ratios, since if the ratio falls below one part lanthanum nitrate to one part cobalt nitrate when the carrier body is impregnated, poisoning occurs very quickly due to excess cobalt oxide escaping during the operation of the catalyst "Poisoning" of the catalyst, both in the case of the aforementioned cobalt-lanthanum-nickel-uranium mixture, and in the case of substances containing platinum, occurs particularly at higher temperatures, so that such catalysts, for example, in the afterburning of combustion gases or exhaust gases from motor vehicles must be arranged far behind the combustion appliance or engine in cooler sections. However, this in turn has the disadvantage that the reaction cannot be carried out as completely as would be the case at higher temperatures.
The invention is therefore based on the object of a To create a catalyst for the conversion of hydrocarbons that is stable and largely insensitive against poisoning both by foreign pollutants, as well as against self-poisoning with higher Temperatures is.
Zur Lösung dieser Aufgabe ist bei einem Katalysator der eingangs genannten Art gemäß der Erfindung vorgesehen, daß der Überzug 1 Teil Kobalt und 1 bis 3 Teile Lanthan, sowie, bezogen auf die Summe von Kobalt und Lanthan, 2 bis 20 Masse % Cer enthält Insbesondere werden auf 1 Teil Kobalt 2 Teile Lanthan eingesetztTo solve this problem, it is provided in a catalyst of the type mentioned according to the invention, that the coating 1 part cobalt and 1 to 3 parts lanthanum, and based on the sum of cobalt and Lanthanum, contains 2 to 20% by weight of cerium In particular, 2 parts of lanthanum are used for 1 part of cobalt
This special composition - omitting the previous catalyst components nickel and uranium - and the inclusion of the additional metal cerium, which serves to stabilize the catalyst, surprisingly result in a catalyst which is so temperature resistant that it can be up to 1000 ° C. in a reducing atmosphere and in an oxidizing one, depending on the gas composition Atmosphere even up to 1200 0 C can be used. This enables it to be used, for example, as an afterburner for diesel engines, with the catalyst, due to its high temperature resistance, being used immediately after the engine in the region of the highest exhaust gas temperature in order to make the reaction rate of the soot conversion as high as possible.
With this special use of the catalytic converter for soot combustion, it has proven to be advantageous
Proven if the coating, based on the cobalt and lanthanum content, also contains 2 to 20% iron contains.
Man hat also die poröse Keramik mit ihrer katalytischen Oberflächenbeschichtung nur in Form einer dünnen Schicht auf dem Grundkörper, so daß tatsächlich eineWhile in the previously known catalysts, the entire support body from the respective consisted of porous oxidic material, a two-component carrier can be used in the catalyst according to the invention can be used, which consists of a temperature change-resistant base body, preferably cordierite, consists, which is provided with a porous coating made of a mixture of aluminum oxide and magnesium oxide is. This two-component carrier, the base body being non-porous, avoids that A large part of the catalyst substance gets into the interior of the porous carrier ceramic, in which a significant Implementation no longer takes place at all. So you have porous ceramics with their catalytic ones Surface coating only in the form of a thin layer on the base body, so that actually a
Darüber hinaus hat der Zweikomponententräger den Vorteil, daß die Bildung von Ruß tief im Inneren eines porösen Körpers vermieden wird, die zu einer Sprengung des Trägers führen könnte.very high conversion of the constituents to be burned can take place without the proportion of catalyst substance too high to make. In addition, the two-component carrier has the advantage that the formation avoiding soot deep inside a porous body, which would detonate the carrier could.
To produce a catalyst according to the invention, the support body is preferably mixed with aqueous Solutions of cobalt, lanthanum, cerium and possibly iron salts, preferably impregnated with their nitrates, the impregnated carrier body at approx. 100 ° C dried and then at temperatures between 200 ° C and 1000 ° C in air or reducing Atmosphere.
Die hohe Temperaturbeständigkeit ist dabei von ganz besonderer Bedeutung, da sie ein Arbeiten bei hohen Temperaturen ermöglicht, bei denen die Umsetzungen entsprechend schneller erfolgen, so daß auch mit Sicherheit eine verständige Umsetzung der jeweiligen Brennstoffe gewährleistet istThe use of the catalyst according to the invention is not intended for the afterburning of motor vehicle exhaust gases and certainly not limited to soot afterburning in diesel engines. The inventive Catalyst can be used successfully for all cases of carbon-hydrogen conversions, be it in Condensing boilers for heating buildings or in devices for converting hydrocarbons into Cracked gas. Precisely the high temperature resistance of the catalyst and its low susceptibility to Self-poisoning or poisoning from contamination of the fuel make it a universal one usable catalyst. The high temperature resistance is of particular importance because it allows working at high temperatures, at which the conversions take place correspondingly faster, so that also with certainty a sensible implementation the respective fuels is guaranteed
