The device consists of a reaction vessel with a fan, stirrer and outlet, a dosing device consisting of a dosing pump and a vacuum-tight hydrogen peroxide container, a filter element consisting of a filter insert and a filter vessel, as well as conveying elements, connecting lines and control electronics, whereby the filtrate is fed to a water jet pump via a nozzle and a second water jet pump ensures the emptying of an overflow tray and the safe supply of hydrogen peroxide.
Description
The invention relates to a method of the type mentioned in the preamble of patent claim 1 and to a device of the type mentioned in the preamble of patent claim 5.
Used photographic baths, such as developer and fixer baths, but also washing solutions contain considerable amounts of silver, the recovery of which is becoming increasingly important. A number of processes and devices are known for recovering the silver contained in photographic baths, in which the silver is, for example, cemented or electrolytically deposited.
In addition to silver, the photographic baths may also contain other precious and heavy metals, but also toxic organic and inorganic compounds such as thiosulfates, cyanides and phenol compounds, which, according to current wastewater regulations, cannot be discharged directly into the receiving waters or sewage system. They must not be treated, but must be detoxified. The known processing methods for photographic baths, which work with cementing or electrolytic deposition of silver, are not suitable for this.
From DE-PS 20 09 826 it is known to detoxify mixtures of developer, clarifying and fixing baths while simultaneously recovering the dissolved silver by adding hydrogen peroxide to the mixtures at temperatures of 20 to 100°C. The oxidizable substances are broken down into non-toxic compounds and the dissolved silver is precipitated. The reaction is carried out in a container with a stirrer and after a reaction time of 1 to 2 hours the resulting silver sludge is filtered off. The filtrate generally complies with the statutory waste water discharge regulations.
Außerdem ist bei der bekannten Vorrichtung die Verdünnung des Filtrats von der notwendigen Kühlwassermenge abhängig und daher nicht konstant einstellbar.DE-GM 82 27 719 shows a device for oxidizing photographic waste water with a housing provided with connections for the supply of the liquids to be decontaminated and the hydrogen peroxide, in which there is a reaction vessel with a stirrer and outlet, a storage vessel for the liquids with a feed pump, a dosing device for the hydrogen peroxide, a filter element consisting of a filter insert and a filter vessel, an overflow tray, feed elements, connecting lines and control electronics. In this device, the replenishment of hydrogen peroxide from the vessels 40, 40a into the dosing agent vessel 48 is not dependent on consumption. This means that the dosing agent vessel 48 can run completely dry as a result of a technical fault without the supply of the solution to be decontaminated from the vessel 20 via the pump 36 into the reaction vessel 30 being stopped. The opening of the valve 39 is therefore not necessarily connected with the replenishment of hydrogen peroxide. The opening of the valve 39 is also not necessarily associated with the application of a pressure gradient to the filter device, so that with this known device there is a risk of unacceptable and unintentional emissions of toxic waste water. In addition, with the known device the dilution of the filtrate depends on the necessary amount of cooling water and therefore cannot be set at a constant level.
The invention is based on the object of improving a method and a device of the type mentioned in such a way that it is excluded with the greatest possible certainty that untreated, not yet processed liquids, which may contain highly toxic substances, can enter the sewage system.
This object is achieved according to the invention by the method according to patent claim 1 and the device according to patent claim 5. Advantageous embodiments of the method according to the invention are characterized by the features of patent claims 2 to 4, advantageous embodiments of the device according to the invention by the features of patent claims 6 to 8.
Preferably, the reservoir for the liquids to be decontaminated is provided with a sensor for the fill level. When the sensor is wetted by the baths, a feed pump is activated, which transports the specified amount of liquid into the reaction vessel. It is also important that the hydrogen peroxide vessel is equipped with a sensor. When the sensor is exposed (lack of hydrogen peroxide), the feed pump between the reservoir for the baths and the reaction vessel is blocked and a signal is simultaneously activated to refill. In order to save water, it has also proven advantageous to equip the filter vessel with a sensor that responds to the filtrate and switches the water jet pumps so that they only operate when filtrate is actually produced.
Preferably, the control electronics contain a timer which, after a predetermined reaction time (for example 1 hour) between the liquids to be detoxified and the hydrogen peroxide in the reaction vessel, automatically opens a valve at the outlet and at the same time releases the water supply for the water jet pumps via a valve.
The invention is explained in more detail below and the process for detoxifying photographic baths is described with reference to the drawing, which schematically shows an exemplary embodiment of the device according to the invention. Of course, other liquids that contain organic and/or inorganic substances and possibly heavy metals that can be oxidized with hydrogen peroxide can also be detoxified in the same way.
A housing 1 contains a reaction vessel 2 with a fan 3 , a stirrer 6 and an outlet 4 which ends in a filter element 11 consisting of a filter insert 12 and a filter vessel 13 which is connected to a water jet pump 15 via a filtrate line 14. Below the filter vessel 13 and the reaction vessel 2 there is an overflow tray 18 in which any small amounts of overflowing reaction mixture or filtrate are collected and sucked in via a water jet pump 17. The photographic baths to be processed are supplied via a storage container 8 and the oxidizing agent hydrogen peroxide is supplied via a vacuum-tight container 10 .
At the start of the detoxification treatment, the used photographic baths are connected to one or more connections 7 on the housing 1 and fed into the storage tank 8 via one or more lines 29 , if necessary via feed pumps. When the predetermined fill level, which is based on the volume of the reaction tank 2, is reached, a sensor 19 switches on a feed pump 20 , which transports the bath liquid into the reaction vessel 2 via a line 27. At the same time, the metering pump 25 , which pumps hydrogen peroxide from the container 10 and an external storage container into the reaction vessel 2 via a line 26 , the stirrer 6 and the fan 3 are started, which sucks off the vapors arising in the reaction vessel 2 and in the filter element 11 via a line 24 and, if necessary, directs them outside via a filter or other cleaning device. Furthermore, the valve 5 at the outlet 4 of the reaction vessel 2 is closed. The stirrer 6 and the dosing pump 25 are time-controlled and switch off after the oxidation reaction in the reaction vessel 2 has ended. At the same time, the valve 5 at the outlet 4 of the reaction vessel 2 is opened via control electronics and the reaction mixture is transferred to the filter element 11. In addition, the valve 23 of the water connection 32 is opened so that the two water jet pumps 15, 17 operate and generate negative pressure in the filter vessel 13 .
While the sludge containing silver and other metals produced during the oxidation reaction is retained in the filter insert 12 , the detoxified filtrate is sucked out via the filtrate line 14 and a nozzle 16. The filtrate/water mixing ratio is set and the filtrate is cooled via the hole size of the nozzle 16 , which can be sealed and secured against unauthorized replacement. This ensures that no increased amounts of filtrate can be mixed into the water flowing out of the water jet pumps 15, 17 via the waste water line 33 and that the waste water temperature can be kept at an adjustable low value. A sensor 22 in the filter vessel 13 can be used to only run the water jet pumps 15, 17 if and for as long as filtrate is produced. The second water jet pump 17 would suck the overflow tray 18 dry via a line 34 if liquid were to accumulate there, which is indicated by a sensor 35 .
Otherwise, the negative pressure of this water jet pump 17 can be applied via a hose line 31 and a valve 30 to the container 10 for the hydrogen peroxide, which is taken from an external supply container via a connection 9 and a line 28. When the contents of a supply container are used up, air is sucked into the container 10 when the metering pump 25 is running. This causes the hydrogen peroxide level to drop and exposes a sensor 21 , which sends a signal to refill. At the same time, the feed pump 20 is blocked so that no more bath liquid can be processed or dispensed untreated without hydrogen peroxide. When the sensor 21 is exposed, the amount of hydrogen peroxide still present in the container 10 is sufficient to properly oxidize the charge in the reaction vessel 2 for detoxification. This ensures that no untreated liquid is dispensed.
