Description
AUSGEGEBEN AIH 7. JANUAR 1920ISSUED AIH 7 JANUARY 1920
The invention relates to a ceramic contact body, which is particularly useful during manufacture of sulfuric acid is to be used according to the contact method.
Neben AsbestfaserAs is known, the contact substance used in this case is mainly metallic platinum used, whereas a wide variety of materials have been proposed as the carrier of the contact substance became. In addition to asbestos fiber
ίο finden Salze, z. Das dort befindliche Platin ist daher für die Kontaktwirkung ohne Bedeutung.ίο find salts, e.g. B. magnesium sulphate, deformation, but also other products found in nature, such as pumice stone, kieselguhr etc., can be used with success. All of these substances have the disadvantage of being light to powder and become unusable unless specially prepared what usually happens through secret procedures. To avoid of the specified deficiency are to be used according to the invention, ceramic contact carriers will. Such carriers have been recommended repeatedly. The carrier must consist of a porous mass to a to ensure good adhesion of the platinum. It was based on the idea that im essentially only the platinum lying on the surface can be brought into effect can, and that the porous inner layers are to be regarded as harmful and therefore avoided should be. In one case it has been recommended to place a porous absorbent layer on top of an impermeable layer (sintered clay) Layer. So here the porous layer forms a coating on a dense core. The gas inlet will prevented by the sintered layer, but also the utilization of the contact surface is very imperfect because with a displacement of those sitting in the pores of this body Molecules can hardly be calculated. As a result of stagnation, the gases cannot enter penetrate the porous coating applied to the dense core. The one located there Platinum is therefore of no importance for the contact effect.
Furthermore, one has the hydrogenation of unsaturated fatty acids as a contact carrier Pottery shards already impregnated with nickel oxide were used. But as from the description This procedure shows that only the surface of the ceramic The contact carrier is used as a contact surface, because the freshly reduced nickel should only be present on the surface of the porous Pottery shards in fine distribution 'are spread out.
In erster Linie kommt hierbei als Material für die Herstellung der Kontaktkörper unglasiertes, gebranntes Porzellan inIn contrast to this, in the present method not only a surface effect, but also a depth effect can be achieved, so that a penetration of the porous contact carrier is targeted will. This is achieved in that the contact body according to the invention has such a small volume and such a small one Wall thickness obtained that the gases find without significant resistance) the porous Layers can penetrate and so can the contact substance inside let the contact body take effect. The material used primarily for the manufacture of the contact body is used here unglazed, fired porcelain in
Consideration, but other porous ceramic materials can also be used.
In-depth 2 `` experiments '' showed that the AVandufigäj may be as high as 2 fiiiia thick, whereby it is better if the AVand thickness remains below that. The more porous the material, the greater the wall thickness may be, but 2 mm is to be regarded as the maximum limit. The wall thickness should also be in a specific ratio to the total size, namely, this \ r erhältnis between 1: 5 and ι: 20, ie mm at 1 wall thickness should not exceed mm above 20, the maximum diameter in length or width.
Small tubes have proven to be the most suitable form of contact carrier. When these are impregnated with platinum solution and the metal is then reduced the metallic platinum layer is deposited on the outer and inner surface surface and inside the walls of the contact carrier. The gases can then on act on both sides of the hollow body and diffuse through the thin wall. Since the action of the gases on both sides of the carrier is an essential feature of the invention, so come as Contact carriers only consider hollow bodies, although the shape itself can be any.
In addition to hollow cylinders (tubes), hollow spheres, hollow cubes and the like can also be used. applied but they must be provided with spacious openings so that the gases can also get into the interior of the contact carrier can penetrate. The latter therefore do not need round cross-sections but also bodies with polygonal cross-sections can be used.
The determined proportions are of considerable importance. Such thin bodies are only usable if they also put a certain amount of stress on them Able to withstand pressure.
The pressure absorption capacity is in addition to the specific strength of the material of depending on the body shape and size. Also lies in the ratio of what is presented Surface to volume is an important factor. The former is important for the pure contact effect, the latter for the good mixing of the gases during the individual contact phases.
Also in the case of contact processes, the ability of the wearer to Easily absorb heat and distribute it over the entire contact filling. this is achieved particularly well by the thin-walled body according to the invention, while Bodies with different structures and great wall thickness do this poorly and also, as a result of the different expansion, easy to crack and disintegrate tend.
To protect the outer surfaces of the body covered with contact material mutual contact, the bodies are expedient, with elevations or rim-like A bulged.
Of course, these contact carriers can not only be used for the production of Sulfuric acid, but can also be used in any other contact process.
