Abstract

The oil measurement rod or dip-stick consists of a length of flexible strip metal with a grip and a stop on one end. It is designed to enable effortless repeated insertion into curved guide pipes. The end of the metal strip remote from the grip carries a spherical fitting which helps to guide it in the curved pipe. This may consist of a rounded end and a blind rivet with hemispherical heads on both sides of a hole drilled through the strip. The stop at the grip end of the strip incorporates a seal for the guide pipe. A conventional distance piece above the spherical fitting prevents the oil from smearing on the guide tube.
