Description
The invention relates to a monitoring circuit for sensor systems that consist of a sensor with downstream evaluation electronics. The monitoring circuit checks whether the sensor system is functioning properly.
Sensor systems of the type mentioned above are used as protective devices in systems to prevent personal injury or damage to machines. Such protective devices have been described in various documents. DE 4121720 A1 describes a contact switch that is attached to the holder of a step and is actuated by a switch flag that is firmly attached to the support arm of a step. The vehicle can only drive backwards if the step is folded up. DE 3729107 A1 describes a device that has a two-shelled step board, with part of the step board being supported by springs that are pressed down when the step is loaded with weight and in this state actuate a sensor. This sensor is connected to the vehicle control system and prevents the vehicle from reversing if a defined load is exceeded and at the same time only allows a limited speed for forward travel. The disadvantage here is that the monitoring circuit does not enter a safe state if an error occurs in the sensor detection system. The safe state is reached when reversing and forward travel are restricted, as stated above.
The solutions described above do not provide any options for carrying out a continuous, periodic functional check of the monitoring circuit and for bringing about a safe state if an error occurs in the sensory signal evaluation.
The object of the invention is to provide a solution for continuous-periodic electrical monitoring of a sensor system which, when an error occurs either in the sensor and/or in a downstream evaluation device, controls a switch in such a way that a safe state of the controlled system is assumed.
This task is solved by the features of claim 1 and . When a first sensor is activated, a signal is triggered which is processed in an evaluation device and activates the contact of a third switch 4. The first switch emits pulses or switching signals of different durations. A circuit causes fast pulses to pass through to the third switch 4, while pulses with a longer pulse duration are only passed on to the third switch if they are released by the circuit. A test generator and a comparison circuit 3 are provided within the evaluation device, which then blocks the third switch 4 if the first switch 1 has not responded to a test pulse. A special solution is provided for the comparison circuit, which consists in the fact that the duration of the test interval is longer than that of the test pulse and that an error is only detected if the test pulse of the test generator 6 does not fall within a test interval provided by the comparison circuit 3.
This procedure ensures that time delays that may occur within the supply lines to the sensor or within the electronic evaluation do not affect the test accuracy.
In a special design, the first switch, which is designed as a sensor, is subjected to a functional test controlled by the electronic evaluation. The sensor signal is fed to a circuit 13, which shortens the response pulse of the first switch and fades out the remaining pulse duration.
For the periodic functional test of the monitoring circuit, it is also preferable to use evaluation electronics connected downstream of the first switch, which are designed to be fail-safe. This fail-safety consists, for example, in the fact that the monitoring function is retained if a component or switching unit fails. The evaluation electronics contain a timing element that is controlled by the first sensor at the same time as the input of the evaluation electronics. When controlled by the sensor, the timing element is reset and the timing begins again. When the timing begins, the timing element acts on the third switch in such a way that at least one switching contact of the switching part 5 switches to the safe state. With this technical solution, the sensor's detection signal also acts as a test signal for the monitoring circuit.
Anhand von Ausführungsbeispielen wird die Erfindung näher erläutert The invention is explained in more detail using exemplary embodiments
Figure 1 shows the installation of an inductive proximity switch 1 in a footboard 12 in a side view. As soon as the spring-mounted 13 footboard is subjected to a force, a metal flag H approaches the inductive proximity switch and triggers a switching signal within its detection range. The switching output of this proximity switch is preferably designed in such a way that it carries current when not actuated and blocks when actuated, i.e. does not carry any current.
Figure 2 shows the schematic representation of the monitoring device. The inductive proximity switch 1 is connected to an isolating stage 2, which transmits slow switching signals to the timer 7 and slow and fast switching signals to the comparison stage 3. The stage 3 is connected to the third switch 4, which activates a relay contact within the switching part 5. The test generator 6 generates short periodic switching pulses with a duration of 5-50 ms. These pulses are transmitted via lines to both the sensor 1 and the comparison stage 3. The period of the pulses is set to 2.5 minutes in this example, but can also be set to other time sequences. The test pulse causes an artificially generated damping of the oscillator coil of the proximity switch 1 via a semiconductor switch additionally installed in the proximity switch 1. The test pulse generates a switching signal at the switching output of the proximity switch 1, the duration of which corresponds to that of the test pulse.
'&Pgr; i-i 5·"'&Pgr; i-i 5·"
The isolating stage 2 does not change this signal and passes it on to the comparison stage 3, which in turn controls the third switch 4, but only for so short a time that its electrical output reacts, but the electrical contact within the switching part 5 does not respond. This reaction pulse from the switching stage 4 is also fed to the comparison stage 3, which blocks the control of the switching stage 4 at the moment when no response pulse from the sensor has been received from the switching stage 4. In this case, a relay contact within the switching part 5 closes permanently. The timer controlled by the proximity switch 1 via the isolating stage 2 with slow switching pulses is set to a period of 8 minutes in this example. The timer must receive a switching pulse at least every 8 minutes so that the second switch 8 permanently opens an electrical contact within the switching part 5. If this is not the case, this contact closes and switches the subsequent system to the safe state. The contact functions 9, 10 within the switching part 5 are specified by the engine management of the respective vehicle and can also be inverse. The switching logic of the switching part 5 is designed here so that the contacts controlled by the second switch are continuously open when the timer 7 is periodically controlled within a time interval of 8 minutes. The contacts controlled by the third switch are closed when a person is on a step. Both of the above-mentioned contacts are connected in parallel. This parallel connection means that the safe state is immediately assumed when the step is stepped on, and that the system can no longer operate when the period of the timer 7 of 8 minutes has elapsed. With inverse contact functions, the contacts are connected in series.
This simple connection ensures, for example, in the case of refuse collection vehicles, an interrupted loading operation without any interruptions in operation. It is assumed here that two loading processes always follow one another within less than 8 minutes. The cable routing to the sensor can be simplified further by routing the signal from the test generator 6 to the sensor not via a separate cable but via the sensor power supply cables.
When monitoring flow monitors, level monitors, proximity switches and similar sensors, preferably with a downstream evaluation device, functional reliability is the main focus. With such systems, it is important that the contact controlling a system actually reacts if an error occurs in the sensor system and the system switches to the safe state in the event of an error.

Figure 3 shows an arrangement that is particularly intended for opto- or ultrasonic proximity switches. With these sensors, the functional test is not carried out by the timer 7 described above, but by a periodic test cycle that is controlled by the test generator 6. The proximity switches described above consist of a signal transmitter and a signal receiver. For example, the transmission energy can be increased briefly by a test pulse, which leads to an increased output signal. Due to the signal processing within this sensor, this response signal from the sensor to the test pulse cannot be kept arbitrarily small. In order to be able to use the test method as shown in Figure 1, a circuit 13 is connected downstream of the sensor, which shortens the response pulse of the sensor and fades out the remaining pulse duration of this response pulse, so that only a short test pulse of 5 - 50 ms is available at the output of the circuit 13, which is fed to the comparison stage. If the first switch detects a person who generates a corresponding signal at its output, this signal is forwarded by the circuit 13 via the comparison stage directly to the third switch 4. The crossfade function of the circuit 13 only works for a short period of time, in this example 200 ms, so that the detection process is not disturbed. If it is necessary to test several sensor functions, a pulse converter stage 12 is connected upstream of the first sensor 1 and a pulse converter stage 11 is connected upstream of the comparison circuit 3, whereby these upstream stages are controlled by the test generator 6. For each sensor function to be tested, the upstream converter stages 11, 12 then generate a pulse each. In this example too, it is of particular importance that the comparison circuit 3 controlled by the test generator 6 via the pulse converter stage 11 and the test intervals controlled by these pulses have a duration longer than that of the response pulse of the sensor emitted by the circuit 13.
