Description
The invention relates to a keel arrangement for sailing boats, in particular yachts, dinghies and larger sailing ships.
The design of the keel, which must prevent the ship from capsizing and drifting, has always played an important role in the handling characteristics and stability of a sailing boat or ship, which, with its large sail area, offers the wind a lot of attack surface. The variety of keel arrangements and shapes that are common in practice or described in the literature is clearly large - nevertheless, their further improvement in the context of new technical possibilities and materials is still receiving great attention today, which shows, among other things, that experts see an urgent need for further development here.
A large proportion of these are solutions that - mostly with the aim of reducing the draft in shallow waters or increasing the risk of capsizing - describe the possibility of spreading out keel parts or special "keel fins" (e.g. DE 28 33 783; DE 29 41 424). DE 296 038 93 and DE 29 22 629 describe hulls with a keel running amidships, which is designed in two parts so that the keel consists of two parts that can be separated vertically from one another and can be folded away to the side of the hull if necessary. In this state, however, the hydrodynamic shape of the closed keel is lost and the ship loses speed as soon as the keel is folded open into two parts. In addition, keel ballast transfer is not possible with these "foldable" keels. In contrast, DE 43 44 740 shows a ballast keel for sailing yachts, in which a ballast body is immobile between two keel plates mounted at an angle on the underwater hull. - With the aim of preventing the so-called "leeward drift" (the lateral drift in the direction of the wind when sailing)
To largely avoid this, DE 39 40 703 describes two keels arranged rigidly one behind the other and separated from each other, each of which or both of which carry a ballast weight together. This solution also has the disadvantage that the position and mass of the ballast cannot be changed during the journey and there is no possibility of reducing the draft.
Problemproblem
The invention is based on the problem of developing a keel arrangement for sailing ships with which the keel ballast can be easily shifted during travel, both on downwind and upwind courses, without additional leeward drift. At the same time, a significant reduction in the draft should be possible in order to be able to navigate shallow waters.
Erfindunginvention
The problem is solved with the keel arrangement described in the main claim. The subclaims contain preferred embodiments of the invention.
Durch die erfindungsgemäße Anordnung von zwei unabhängig voneinander schwenkbaren Kielkörpern ergeben sich unterschied-According to the invention, the claimed keel arrangement consists of two keels of hydrodynamic shape arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction on the water side under the imaginary central axis of the boat hull, which are mounted independently of one another and can be pivoted around the central axis to both sides up to a maximum of 90°. The units required for their movement are arranged underwater, within the actual keel body, so that no complex passages through the boat hull are required and no additional weight is created, since the units themselves form keel ballast. The inventive arrangement of two independently pivoting keel bodies results in different
liehe Kielstellungen fürly keel positions for
- Ballastverlagerung bei Vorwindkursen: - Ballast shifting on downwind courses:
des Bootes);Both keels are swung out in one direction (larger righting
Moment and therefore higher speed and capsize safety
of the boat);
- Ballastverlagerung bei Amwindkursen: - Ballast shifting on close-hauled courses:
damit verbunden, höhere Geschwindigkeit und Kentersicherheit des Bootes);Only one keel is swung out, the second remains vertical,
therefore no additional leeward drift (larger righting moment and
associated with this, higher speed and capsize safety of the boat);
- Tiefgangreduzierung:- Draft reduction:
One keel is swung to the starboard side, the other to the port side.
Optimizing the effects of "reducing leeward drift", "increasing the righting moment" and "reducing draft" is of course possible by selecting any intermediate position in the swivel range between 0 and 90°.
Das Fahren in flachen Gewässern, Buchten und Häfen oder ein "Trockenfallen" bei Ebbe sind problemlos, da der Tiefgang bis auf minimalThe keel arrangement according to the invention enables a large number of different variants with which the handling and capsizing safety of the boat can be positively influenced quickly and easily depending on the current requirements. The help of additional people to shift ballast or to compensate with water ballast in tanks, whose additional weight can be around 2 tons, is no longer necessary. The hydrodynamic shape of the keels is retained even when swung out, so that no additional loss of speed can occur. The boat remains in an almost upright position even in strong winds, which further increases capsizing safety. Driving in shallow waters, bays and harbors or "running dry" at low tide are no problem, as the draft is minimal.
If necessary, the boat can even be parked on the two swung-out keels.
