Wegen des verhältnismäßig kleinen Querschnitts des Wasserschlauchs wird die Gefahr des Zufrierens noch erhöht. Die Gefahr des Zufrierens besteht besonders stark nach langen Stillstandszeiten des Motors, da dann keine Abwärme vorhanden ist, um den Motorraum zu erwärmen und damit ein Einfrieren des Wasserschlauchs zu verhindern.
