Description
Antennen aus flächigen ElementenAntennas made of flat elements
The invention relates to antennas with the generic features specified in the preamble of the main claim, such as those found, for example, as stationary antennas for radio services (also as group antennas) and which are also used in motor vehicles. A characteristic feature is the usually very low height of the individual radiator arrangement. The fact that the overall dimensions of these antennas are not particularly large is also due to the high operating frequencies for which they are designed.
Flachantenne (DE-AS 21 53 827, EP 0 278 069, DE 195 04 577, DE-OS 195 14 556, DE-OS 196 14 068, DE-OS 196 46 100). The arrangements in question are known, for example, as surface segment and strip conductor antennas (patch antennas), or, in a modified form, as "U" or flat antennas (DE-AS 21 53 827, EP 0 278 069, DE 195 04 577, DE-OS 195 14 556, DE-OS 196 14 068, DE-OS 196 46 100). Slot antennas, in which a surface or a waveguide is provided with slots as a radiator, are also examples of the application of the invention. The HF-effective metallic parts in the solutions of the known state of the art are usually made of sheet metal. Sheet metal also offers the best conditions for ensuring mechanical stability. Plastic film with a metal coating and molded bodies made of dielectric material, e.g. plates or Cuboids provided with metal structures, depending on the antenna type and application premises.
The purpose of the invention is to expand and improve the design and application options of these antennas. The invention is based on the task of determining new, advantageous materials for the surface elements. The key criteria are the weight ratios and processing, but also the mechanical stability and properties that result in new integration and combination options.
The problem is solved with the features specified in the characterizing part of the main claim and the subsidiary claim. The subclaims contain preferred embodiments and details.
The invention is an interesting solution, the advantages and new application possibilities of which are probably not fully apparent at first glance. The reduction in weight compared to the use of elements made of sheet metal, e.g. in a stationary group antenna with a stacked patch arrangement of the individual radiators, is certainly a significant advantage of the invention. In addition, a wire mesh can be processed with little effort, and contacting with connecting lines to further networks is just as easy as with sheet metal, but better than, for example, when using metallized foils. The combination of a flat antenna of the type mentioned at the beginning with a light source represents a preview of the new possibilities opened up by the invention. As also described in the text as an example, a flat antenna can be combined with a brake light of a motor vehicle. The brake light "looks" through the antenna. On the other hand, the antenna's electrical properties are not impaired by the brake light, which is connected to the vehicle's electrical system.
Flachantenne in erfindungsgemäßer Ausführung Figur 2. Figure 1 shows a flat antenna, similar to that described in DE 195 04 577 as a passive transmitting and receiving element for mobile radio with frequencies in the GHz range. The antenna according to the invention consists of the ground reference surface 1 and the radiator surface 2, whereby the surfaces 1 and 2 are galvanically connected by the short-circuit element 3. These three parts are made of wire mesh according to the teaching of the invention.
The inner conductor 5 of the coaxial cable 6, which is exposed for a short distance, is used for feeding via the antenna connection point 4, the outer conductor braid of which is connected to the ground reference surface 1 at point 7.
The ground reference surface 1 is selected to be larger than the radiator surface 2. If the antenna with its entire structure extends into a space that is virtually free of the electromagnetic field, e.g. when arranged underneath the window pane of a motor vehicle, an effective galvanic connection to the bodywork sheet must be provided, e.g. in the form of the screw tab 1.1 as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 2 shows a third brake light arranged on the rear window 8 of a motor vehicle, under the roof pillar. The functional elements of the brake light are lamps 9, reflectors 10 and the colored glass 11. They are arranged in a housing 12. The size of the effective lamp surface is predetermined. It should be at least 30 cm 2 . The direction of light must be horizontal. From these two premises, and taking into account the often low angle of inclination of today's vehicle rear windows, the housing 12 has quite large dimensions when viewed from above and a large free volume inside the housing. This free space is used in the arrangement according to Figure 2 with an antenna according to the invention according to the principle shown in Figure 1.
The ground reference surface 1.2 is curved here. The shape has proven to be advantageous for design reasons in connection with the field structure and from an EMC perspective. The permissible mesh width w is a maximum of 7 mm for the 900 MHz range and 3.5 mm for 1.8 GHz. With a wire diameter d of e.g. a maximum of 0.5 mm or 0.2 mm, it is clear that such wire mesh does not impede the light emission of the brake light.
In the rear light 13, a group antenna based on the strip conductor principle (patch antenna) with three radiators 14 is arranged in front of a ground reference surface 1.3. The effect that the optical function is not hindered is the same as with the arrangement according to Figure 2.
Das heißt, daß man z.B. an allen vier Ecken eines Fahrzeugs eine patch antennaWhile the antennas of the design explained at the beginning have omnidirectional radiation in the horizontal radiation pattern, antennas of the type shown in Figure 3 are characterized by directional characteristics, with a lobe orthogonal to the radiator surfaces. This means that, for example, a patch antenna can be installed at all four corners of a vehicle.
j · · j 'III Il *..·j · · j 'III Il *..·
oder eine patch-Gruppe anordnen muß, um quasi-Rundumstrahlung zu gewährleisten.or a patch group must be arranged to ensure quasi-omnidirectional radiation.
It has already been indicated that the inventive combination of antennas made of wire mesh with lights is only one of the possible applications of the invention, albeit a particularly advantageous and obvious one. An equally interesting path will emerge if vehicle parts made of plastic are increasingly used in exposed areas in bodywork construction. Bodywork parts have a surface character, and the use of wire mesh can be a way of integrating surface antenna configurations without having to resort to sheet metal or using sensitive foils or metal coatings.
