Description
Enteisungsmitte1De-icing agent1
The present invention relates to a composition for reducing the freezing point, in particular of water, or for preventing ice formation, as well as an agent for de-icing car windows, cooling elements in heat pumps and wing profiles in aircraft.
During the winter months, there is the problem that car windows freeze over overnight when parked outside, making it necessary to scrape off the layer of ice in order to ensure adequate visibility when driving. In addition, during the winter months in Central Europe, the phenomenon of freezing atmospheric precipitation can often be observed. This phenomenon is very often observed on car windows in the form of an opaque, matt layer of ice with a thickness in the sub-millimeter range. The layers of ice mentioned typically form on cold surfaces of vehicles parked outside and require mechanical removal, chemical reduction of the freezing point, or heating of the cold surface to remove the layer of ice or the obstruction to visibility. Due to the cold ambient temperature or insufficient technical aids, the layer is often only removed in places and/or insufficiently. This leads to obstruction of visibility and increases the potential danger when using vehicles.
Grundsätzlich wäre es vorteilhaft, derartigeAs a rule, water/glycol-based de-icing agents are used to remove the layers of ice. The work required is laborious and, in addition, at very low temperatures it takes a relatively long time until the layer of ice can be removed at least to the extent that driving away is possible. In principle, it would be advantageous to use such
It is possible to apply de-icing agents to a car window at a much earlier point in time, but the water/glycol solution usually runs off and the desired effect is not achieved.
For this reason, a number of patents suggest adding a thickener to the de-icing agent to prevent the de-icing agent from running off and thus extend the duration of its effect. The aim is to be able to apply the de-icing agent to a car window the evening before, for example, in order to prevent a layer of ice from forming in the first place. This would make it possible, for example, to clear the car windows the next morning without much effort, so that you can drive away quickly.
Thus, EP 360 183, EP 586 127, EP 678 565, EP 769 541, DE 19 40 825 and US 5 389 276 propose adding an acrylic-based polymer thickener to the water/glycol-based de-icing agent. WO 94/25538 proposes a poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidine) or a cross-linked maleic anhydride/methyl vinyl ether copolymer as a thickener, while EP 257 720 proposes natural or synthetic rubber, cellulose ether, carboxymethyl cellulose and hydroxyethyl cellulose as thickeners. EP 743 305 proposes a polyether amide which is suitable as a thickener. Finally, in DE 31 42 059, cellulose derivatives are proposed as thickeners.
Alle aus dem Stand der Technik vorgeschlagenen Enteisungsmittel haben aber den gewichtigen Nachteil, dass einerseits durch die relativ hohe Viskosität sich eine schlechte Filmbildung ergibt, womit beispielsweise Autoscheibe oderHowever, all de-icing agents proposed in the state of the art have the significant disadvantage that, on the one hand, the relatively high viscosity results in poor film formation, which can, for example, damage car windows or
Even larger areas that need to be de-iced are never completely "coated" by the de-icing agent. In addition, thickeners lead to such high viscosities at low temperatures that the problem is no longer the formation of ice, but the de-icing agent itself, which is difficult to remove. Ultimately, the suggested de-icing agents usually smear and can only be removed with a lot of cleaning effort. It is therefore sometimes necessary to remove these de-icing agents with hot water and solvents, which is certainly not an advantageous way of working.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to propose a method or a means by means of which the above-mentioned problem can be solved in the simplest way and by means of which the removal of a layer of ice from, for example, an icy pane of glass can be carried out in the simplest way.
According to the invention, the stated object is achieved by means of a composition or a method according to the wording of claim 1 or claim 12.
A composition or an agent is proposed for reducing the freezing point, in particular of water, or for de-icing, which, in addition to the generally known components in such substances, such as glycols, additionally contains a thickener which at least inhibits the flow of the composition or agent from inclined or vertical surfaces, which composition further according to the invention additionally contains a hygroscopic additive and/or a short-chain aliphatic monohydric alcohol.
The thickener can, for example, be a higher molecular weight substance that prevents the composition from flowing off inclined or vertical surfaces, such as carboxymethylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose derivatives, polyacrylates, polymethacrylates, polycarboxylic acids, polyethers, polyamides, alginates, gum arabic, etc.
Also suitable as thickeners are so-called thixotropic agents, which are known to greatly increase the viscosity of relatively thin liquids when they are in a so-called resting state. Such thixotropic agents can be, for example, bentonite, kaolin, alginic acid, silicon compounds or metal oxide gels.
The addition of hygroscopic substances such as glycerine, pentaerythritol or sorbitol has the great advantage over the de-icing agents proposed in the prior art that the de-icing agent has a certain affinity for water and thus the viscosity can be quickly reduced by adding small amounts of water. This means that the de-icing agent can be removed relatively easily by adding water even after it has been on the surface to be de-iced for a long time. In the case of car windows in particular, it is therefore possible to remove the de-icing agent by operating the windscreen washer system, which means that no greasy or oily surface remains on the window and a clear view is guaranteed.
Die Zusammensetzung bildet auf der behandelten Oberfläche einenThe surface at risk of icing is sprayed with the composition while it is still warm, preferably at a temperature above freezing. The composition forms a
The composition is preferably a mixture of alcohol, organic solvents, the above-mentioned thickeners, corrosion inhibitors and, for extreme temperatures, salts. Low-viscosity, short-chain aliphatic, monohydric alcohols are preferably used. These alcohols in turn reduce the viscosity of the de-icing agent, at least during application, which alcohols subsequently evaporate, for example as a result of the relatively low boiling point. This enables the formation of a preferably continuous coating on the one hand, and on the other hand the low viscosity simplifies application. The composition lowers the freezing point, for example of atmospheric precipitation, such as freezing rain, dew, snow and the like, and thus prevents the formation of ice on the wetted surface. The atmospheric precipitation forms a gel-like mixture with the composition on the surface, which can be easily removed mechanically. If only specific areas are treated or if the cold surface is wetted continuously, the composition is distributed over non-wetted areas by mechanical stress and dissolves the layer of ice by lowering the freezing point. Even if a cold surface is only partially wetted, the effect of the substance is significant, as the compact outer layer is partially interrupted, creating better attack surfaces for the mechanical removal of the layer. The composition or substance can also be applied to surfaces that are already icy, like a conventional de-icing agent.
Für das Entfernen der erfindungsgernäss vorgeschlagenen Zusammensetzung, insbesondere wenn dieselbe beim Applizieren die oben erwähnten vorgeschlagenen, kurzkettigen, aliphatischen, einwertigen Alkohole enthält, ist es vorteilhaft, wiederum mit demselben oder einem analogenFor the removal of the composition proposed according to the invention, especially if it contains the above-mentioned proposed short-chain, aliphatic, monohydric alcohols when applied, it is advantageous to use the same or an analogous
Apply water mixed with alcohol to reduce the viscosity of the composition again, so that the surface can be cleaned quickly. The addition of the alcohol means that the surface can be cleaned and freed of ice quickly and without smearing.
