BeschreibungDescription
The present invention relates to a liquid-filled heat storage unit for low-temperature heat with temperature stratification, whereby the storage volume is divided into an upper zone with the highest possible temperature and a lower zone with the lowest possible temperature. Typical applications of such heat storage units are, for example, heat storage units of thermal solar systems and heat recovery systems as well as heat buffer storage units in heating systems and combined heat and power systems.
Derartige Speicher sind also leere Behälter. When loading these heat storage units, a distinction must be made between heating the storage fluid by the heat exchanger located inside the storage unit and heating the storage fluid outside the storage unit by an external heat exchanger. Since the heat exchanger inside the heat storage unit must necessarily be located at the very bottom of the storage unit, the temperature stratification is completely destroyed during each loading process. The invention therefore relates to heat storage units that are loaded by an external heat exchanger. The storage fluid circulates through the external loading heat exchanger, whereby the storage fluid is taken from the lower cold storage zone and, after heating in the heat exchanger at the desired temperature, is layered into the storage unit from above. Such storage units are therefore empty containers. This method is often used in practice, whereby the necessary storage volume - as far as possible - is carried out in one container. The fact that the entire storage mass is thermally coupled proves to be very disadvantageous from a thermodynamic point of view. Through heat conduction and free convection, heat is transported from the hot storage zone to the cold zone in both the storage fluid and the container wall,

This automatic balancing process only ends when a thermodynamic equilibrium is reached, i.e. when the temperature is the same throughout the storage unit. The result is a constant loss of usable heat from the hot storage zone and a constant reduction in storage capacity. Heat storage over several days, weeks or months is not possible with this standard storage design.
For manufacturing reasons and often for spatial reasons, larger storage volumes are achieved by setting up several individual storage tanks, which are then hydraulically connected in series or parallel. In this way, a large thermal decoupling of the tanks is achieved, whether intentionally or unintentionally, but this approach results in considerably greater heat storage losses compared to the single-tank design due to a large surface/volume ratio. Even more serious in practice is the increase in the specific storage costs in DM/m due to the number of tanks and the necessary piping and insulation effort.
The present invention avoids the disadvantages described above; it includes a cost-effective, modular storage tank system with which any storage volume can be realized in a modular design, whereby in the assembled state a thermal separation of the individual modules, a surface/volume ratio as small as possible and a simple hydraulic series connection of the modules are realized.
The invention is described in more detail with reference to Fig. 1, which shows the subject matter of the invention by way of example.
The heat storage unit is constructed from two or more stackable containers, depending on the required storage volume.

Preferably, identical containers 1 prefabricated in series are stacked on top of each other. Depending on the arrangement of the individual container (top, middle, bottom), some of the inlet/outlet nozzles are used for their function or the nozzles that are not required are closed off. The storage tank is loaded by removing cold storage fluid from the lowest connection nozzle 3 and, after heating this fluid in an external heat exchanger 7, layering it through the top connection nozzle 4 into the top storage tank. The overflow lines 2 between the containers enable the entire storage tank to be loaded from top to bottom. The connection nozzles 5, 6 are used to discharge the storage tank.
The container stacking design enables the thermal decoupling of the individual containers by interposing pressure-resistant insulation panels 8. This maintains the temperature stratification from individual container to individual container and the basic prerequisite for heat storage over longer periods of time (several days, weeks, months) while maintaining maximum storage capacity is realized.
At the same time, this container stacking method offers great cost advantages, as all containers are manufactured identically, can be transported without any special effort and can be brought into rooms through standard doors.
Further characteristics and features of the present invention are the subject of further subclaims and emerge from the following description of preferred embodiments.
Fig. 2 shows a container stack, whereby the uppermost container 9 takes over the function of the heat storage standby part with additional heating, e.g. in a thermal solar system.

This container 9, which is used all year round, can be optimized in its geometry for minimal heat loss and thus deviate from the shape of the other stacked containers, which are only needed at times when solar radiation is available. The thermal decoupling from the container below also proves to be a great advantage for the standby part, as reheating - as a result of heat loss into the lower storage areas - is avoided. Fig. 3 shows a container stack, with the top container 10 taking on the function of the expansion vessel for the storage fluid in the container stack. This container can deviate in its geometry, e.g. height, from the container below, whereby here too the thermal decoupling is an advantage.
Fig. 4 shows that, depending on the required storage volume and the existing spatial geometry, several container stacks can be built next to each other and connected hydraulically very easily.
The subclaim, which concerns the practical and cost-effective thermal insulation of the container stack(s), is not illustrated. In addition to the possibility of conventional thermal insulation, the invention provides for the container stack(s) to be arranged in an existing separate room or one that can be created with a simple partition wall and to be insulated against heat loss, including supply lines and connecting lines between the containers, with thermally insulating bulk materials based on inorganic substances or organic substances (biomass). This insulating material fills all the spaces around the container stack(s) in an ideal manner and thus creates the maximum possible thermal insulation locally.
