Abstract

The device for polarographic measurements on suspended mercury drops enables examination of electrode reaction products and special analysis. The device is produced with less demanding and expensive processes than required for types using a micrometer screw piston adjustment and does not suffer from leakage problems associated with them. The capillary tube on the end of which each drop is formed has a component contg. a tap or transferse blocking valve wiht an electrical or mechanical control. This interrupts the mercury flow when it is open the mercury flows at a rate dependent on the capillary dimensions. The size of the drop can be regulated by varying the valve opening time. A new drop is formed by tapping the device until the old one falls off and reopening the valve.

Description

Titel: Vorrichtang für polarographisches MeTitle: Device for polarographic measurement

Quecksilbertropfelektrode. Mercury drop electrode.

Field of application: Polarographic measurement Purpose: In the field of Polarography often uses a stationary, hanging drop of mercury for examination of the products of electrode reactions and used for special purposes. This electrode differs from the usual drop electrode in that ih during the entire duration of the electrolysis is not renewed. The other advantages of Drop electrodes are retained.

State of the art: The previously used device for implementation the stationary hanging drop electrode consists of a capillary with an inner 0.1-0.2mm diameter attached to a small mercury container in which a piston is moved airtight by a micrometer screw turning the micrometer screw releases a drop of mercury of various sizes Press the large one out of the capillary.

Criticism of the stand (ier Tecanik: The disadvantages of the above-mentioned electrode are very demanding and expensive manufacture of the micrometer screw and large Difficulty with the seal, in addition, the solution penetrates after draining the capillary, which can have a very negative effect on the measured values.

Description of the invented Vo @ pie @ tung: The device is impressive a capillary (see "B" Fig.) provided with the component that cuts the Interruption of the flow of mercury, which comes from a small mercury container, causes in particular from the tap or cross shut-off valve, both with the electric or mechanical control. By opening the component - A - (see fig.) the mercury drop forms at the same speed as the affected capillary is equivalent to.

The size of the mercury drop can be easily measured by timing If you need a new drop, tap the capillary gently the drop off, and by reopening the component "A" a new one can be added Droplets are formed. This device is much simpler and incomparable The droplet sizes are extremely reproducible.
