Description
The invention relates to a signal flash light with a direct current source, with a flyback converter, with a flash capacitor, with a flash tube and with a clock generator for generating the clocks for a continuous flash sequence.
Such lights can be used, for example, to secure construction sites. A direct current source, e.g. a dry battery or an accumulator, serves as the energy source. The necessary high voltage for the flash tube is generated via a flyback converter, e.g. voltages of more than 300 V for xenon flash tubes. The flash capacitor is used to collect the charge. The clock generator, which can consist of an astable multivibrator, for example, is used to generate a pulse sequence that triggers the continuous flash sequence.
So müssen z. A very important requirement for such signal flashing lights is that the power source is not exhausted so early that the unattended operation of the flashing light ends before a desired time. For example, such signal flashing lights that are used as construction site lights must operate for at least one whole night without the battery having to be replaced. The power source is not only stressed by the flash output, but also to a large extent by the power loss of the device. A known solution provides a voltage limiter that switches off the flyback converter as soon as a desired charging voltage of the flash capacitor is reached. Although this does limit the power loss to a certain extent, on the other hand, the load from the voltage limiter circuit increases the power loss; particularly when operating flash tubes with relatively low power (e.g. 0.1 Ws; 1 Hz), voltage converters can only be implemented with very poor efficiency. The inherent power loss of the components is already in the same order of magnitude as the useful power. A further complicating factor is the fact that the efficiency of the circuit is reduced by the voltage limiter, especially if the full flash energy is to be made available even during low-voltage operation.
The object of the invention is to avoid such difficulties by means of a different solution and in particular to ensure that the energy content of the direct current source is used as optimally as possible, so that on the one hand the power loss of the signal flashing light is kept as low as possible and on the other hand it is ensured that the device still functions properly even if the voltage of the direct current source drops very sharply. For this purpose, a signal flashing light of the type specified at the beginning is characterized according to the invention in that the input of the flyback converter is connected to the output of a bistable circuit, one input of which is connected to the clock generator and the other input of which is connected to a trigger circuit which ignites the flash tube when a predetermined voltage is reached on the flash capacitor. This achieves pulsed operation of the flyback converter, which is why it can be dimensioned for a much higher output power, which means that it can be implemented with better efficiency.
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the drawing, using an exemplary embodiment from which further details can be seen. The drawing shows a direct voltage source with the voltage U , to which the other parts of the circuit are connected. A bistable circuit S , hereinafter referred to as the memory, has two inputs E 1 and E 2 and an output A. It also has two connections which are connected to the direct voltage source. The flyback converter consists of the transformer Tr 1 , which has a primary winding, a secondary winding and a feedback winding, and a transistor T 1 , in whose collector circuit the primary winding is located, while the feedback winding is connected to its base and controls it. The secondary winding is connected to the flash capacitor C 1 via a diode D 1. The base of the transistor T 1 is connected on the one hand via a resistor R 1 to the output A of the memory S and on the other hand via a resistor R 2 to the feedback winding.
The flash tube Rö 1 is connected to the flash capacitor C 1 and to an ignition pulse generator which consists of various switching elements. An ignition transformer Tr 2 is connected on the one hand to the flash tube Rö 1 and on the other hand to one pole of the flash capacitor C 1 and with the other winding via a capacitor C 3 to a series circuit comprising a resistor R 4 and a thyristor Th 1 , which is also connected between the two poles of the flash capacitor C 1. Another series circuit comprising a Zener diode D 2 , a resistor R 3 and a capacitor C 2 is also connected in parallel to the flash capacitor C 1 . The connection point between the resistor R 3 and the capacitor C 2 is connected to the ignition electrode of the thyristor Th 1 via a trigger diode D 3. It is also connected to the input E 2 of the memory S.
The circuit described works as follows: Receives If the electronic memory S receives a flash command, ie a negative pulse, from the clock generator connected to its input E 1 , the memory is set, ie a positive signal appears at the output A. This switches the flyback converter into operation and the flash capacitor C 1 is charged.
The operation of the flyback converter is known in such a way that the primary winding of the transformer Tr 1 is periodically connected to the direct current source with the help of the switching transistor T 1 and then disconnected from it again. During the current flow phase of the transistor T 1 , the current flowing in the primary winding of the transformer Tr 1 builds up a magnetic field which collapses when the transistor T 1 is blocked. The voltages induced in all windings serve different purposes. While the high voltage of e.g. 300 V on the secondary winding is rectified via the diode D 1 and fed to the flash capacitor C 1 , the feedback winding acts back on the switching transistor T 1 .
From a certain charging voltage of the flash capacitor C 1 , the Zener diode D 2 becomes conductive and the capacitor C 2 is also charged via the resistor R 3 . The circuit is dimensioned so that the trigger diode D 3 becomes conductive when the desired flash voltage is reached at the flash capacitor C 1 . At this moment, the capacitor C 2 discharges in pulses via the trigger diode D 3 onto the ignition electrode of the thyristor Th 1 . This initiates the ignition of the flash tube Rö 1 , and the flash capacitor C 1 discharges via the flash tube Rö 1 .
The negative voltage pulse that is generated at the capacitor C 2 causes the memory to be erased via the input E 2 of the memory S. This puts the flyback converter out of operation again because there is a zero signal at the output A of the memory S. The flyback converter is only put back into operation when a new flash command is sent from the clock generator to the input E 1 of the memory S.
This ensures that the flyback converter is activated when a flash command is given, and only for the time required to sufficiently charge the flash capacitor C 1. The flash is then triggered immediately and the flyback converter is switched off. This means that there are no losses due to the flyback converter operating if the flyback converter is only overcharging or recharging the capacitor. It is also guaranteed that even if the voltage is too low, the flyback converter will continue to operate until the full required flash energy is available. It just takes a little longer to charge. The charging time changes inversely proportional to the operating voltage.
The measures described mean that, for example, with a flash energy of 0.1 Ws, the flyback converter can be designed for an output of 1 W or more, which makes it possible to build a flyback converter with good efficiency, and the charging time for the flash capacitor can then be chosen to be very short, e.g. 1/10 of the period. If the signal flashing light is to emit a flash every 1 second (1 Hz) then the charging time is 0.1 s and the pause time is 0.9 s. As the battery voltage drops, this ratio changes slightly, but the good efficiency is still maintained. For example, the signal flashing light can be operated from a direct current source with a nominal voltage of 6 V down to a voltage below 3 V without changing the flash energy or the flash sequence. The invention can therefore be used particularly favorably in signal lights for construction site inspection, in hazard warning lights for safety in the event of vehicle breakdowns and for train end signals in railway technology.
