■The invention relates to the production of substituted 1,4-diaminobutanes and their use as hardeners for epoxy resins. ■
Nach der Abtrennung des Produktes kann dasselbe in Lösung katalytisch zu l,4-Diatnino-2,3-1,4-diaminobutanes of this type are in a publication by H. SchUfer in Angew. Chemistry £ 2 (1970) 134 than in less Mentioned the amount of analytical products. In the case of the production described there, for example a mixture of oc-methylstyrene, glacial acetic acid and sodium azide subjected to electrolysis. Under low nitrogen development becomes 1,4-diazido-2,3-dimethy1-2,3-dipheny! butane educated. After the product has been separated off, it can be catalytically converted into 1,4-diatnino-2,3-
dimethyl-2,3-diphenylbutan hydriert werden.dimethyl-2,3-diphenylbutane are hydrogenated.
This prior art method, which is only available for the Analysis is intended, but has the serious disadvantage that azides are obtained as intermediates, which are known to be explosive products. In addition, the yield in this process is relatively low.

Davis in J. Amer. Chem. Soc. 80 (1958) 1752, nachzulesen. Of course Other dinitriles not mentioned in Table I can also be used, provided they correspond to formula II.
The temperature suitable for the hydrogenation in step a) depends in each case on the hydrogenation catalyst used. In the case of using Raney nickel or Raney cobalt, one works optimally with regard to the yield if temperatures of about 90 to 140 ° C. are used. When using known noble metal catalysts, such as platinum, palladium, rhodium or ruthenium, it is possible to work at lower temperatures, for example at room temperature.

The hydrogenation can be carried out in the laboratory and in the Technology Usual methods carried out both pressureless, e.g. in the Schtittelente, and under pressure in the autoclave will.
Hydrocarbons or, for example, can be used as additional inert organic solvents in the hydrogenation Ethers such as hexane and dioxane or aromatics such as toluene or benzene can be used.
The catalytic reduction is usually carried out in such a way that the solution of the respective succinic acid dinitrile of the formula II in acetic anhydride and, if appropriate, solvent mixed with the catalyst and introducing hydrogen gas into the reaction mixture. the Hydrogenation is continued until no more hydrogen is absorbed. This is followed by the separation of the Catalyst.
In the second stage b), the substituted N, N'-diacetyl-1,4-diaminobutane obtained is generally first isolated and then hydrolyzed under acidic or alkaline conditions. In principle, however, without separating the diacetyl compound, i.e. hydrolyzed directly in the catalyst-freed solution obtained in step a). the The intermediate product is isolated by known processes.

The one used in stage a) of the process according to the invention acylating hydrogenation in the presence of acetic anhydride is known per se, but leads in the present case Case ultimately related to solid, substituted 1,4-diaminobutanes, which surprisingly as hardeners for epoxy resins on service life, color stability and durability against aggressive media, especially organic acids and alcohols, excellently suited and sometimes some are even superior to conventional hardeners. This applies in particular to adduct hardeners from those according to the invention Process for the preparation of substituted 1,4-diaminobutanes with liquid polyepoxide compounds.
Solche auf der Basis der erfindungsgemäss herstellbaren 1,4-Diaminobutane der Formel IThe 1,4-diaminobutanes which can be prepared according to the invention Formula I are also particularly suitable for the realization of pre-reaction products with epoxy resins (B stages). It is known that the corresponding epoxy resin is mixed with the hardener in the production of such B-stages and either at room temperature for about 1 to 14 days or at a slightly elevated temperature (not higher than 60 ° C) one or stored for several hours. The B-stages that are formed during this storage are known to be found among other things Use as molding compounds, pre-pregs for laminates, sinter powders and adhesives. Those based on the invention 1,4-diaminobutanes of the formula I which can be prepared

Aliphatische Amine sind aber bekanntlich für die Herstellung von B-Stufen praktisch ungeeignet.are surprisingly the conventional B-stages, which are well known contain mainly aromatic amines as hardeners, superior. This superiority is especially therefore Surprising because the 1,4-diaminobutanes of the formula I in The basic character is rather aliphatic amines. However, aliphatic amines are known for the production of B-stages practically unsuitable.

Two of these test strips are adjusted with the help of a gauge so that that the ends coated with resin-hardener mixture overlap by 12 mm. After fixing with a clamp the adhesive is hardened, after cooling the clamp is removed and then in a tensile test the tensile shear strength of the adhesive bond tested (DIN 53183).
e) Prüfung der chemischen Beständigkeite) Testing of chemical resistance
A small amount of the resin hardener suspension is distributed on a glass plate using a glass rod in such a way that that a uniform film is obtained. The coating obtained after hardening becomes chemical Resistance tested in such a way that a drop of the respective chemicals remains on the film for 1 hour will. The chemicals are then wiped off and the film surface is assessed visually.

Beurteilung der ResultateAssessment of the results
If one first compares the processing properties, which are very important for practice, and the The lacquer properties achieved by the coatings have the adduct hardener 1 based on Curable mixture I containing 1,4-diamino-2,3-diphenylbutane in comparison to that based on adduct hardener II of 4,4'-diarainodiphenylmethane containing mixture II a longer period of use (of: = · 210 minutes) on what enables convenient hand processing with a brush and roller, which is very popular in practice.
The other technical paint properties of such coatings are partly the properties of coatings, which hardeners based on conventional aromatic Contain amines, superior. The color stability of the new adduct hardener I is significantly better, which is, for example, the production enables white pigmented coatings.
With regard to the resistance to very aggressive media such as dilute organic acids (5- and 107o acetic acid) as well as 20% and 50% ethyl alcohol, which are used in the food sector are quality-determining, the new adduct hardener cuts I performed very well compared to the hardener based on 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane and it is the other conventional hardeners based on aliphatic and cycloaliphatic Clearly superior to polyamines (comparative mixtures III and IV, Table 4).

Dazu werden zwei verschiedene Untersuchungsmethoden angewandt:The resin / hardener mixture described in Example I as well a suspension made from 100 parts by weight of the same epoxy resin (X) and 26.2 parts by weight of 4,4'-diamino-diphenylmethane, which should enable a comparison with the prior art, are stored at room temperature (RT) and checked at certain time intervals for their reactivity and their softening range. There are two different ones Investigation methods applied:
a) Die Bestimmung der Gelierzeit bei 1200C auf einer thertnostatisierten Heizplattea) Determination of the gelation time at 120 0 C on a hot plate thertnostatisierten
b) Die Bestimmung der Reaktivität mit dem schon oben beschriebenen Differential Thermoanalyzer.b) The determination of the reactivity with the one already described above Differential thermal analyzer.
In addition to changes in temperatures for the melting point, The start of the reaction and the reaction maximum allow, above all, the determination of the pre-reaction products during hardening heat of reaction still released an assessment of the degree of conversion before and after the storage of the pre-reaction product .
The values determined on the two systems using the methods mentioned are summarized in Table 5.

Beurteilung der ErgebnisseAssessment of the results
According to Example III it is surprisingly possible through simple rubbing of the solid produced according to the invention Amine of the formula I with the liquid epoxy resin (X) Pastes come that show a significant increase in viscosity after days of storage, but that even after 90 days can still be applied as a paste and still have practically the same gelling time as after 3 days Storage at room temperature. This is all the more surprising than diaminodiphenylmethane, which is much less reactive in terms of its chemical structure, under the same conditions leads to a paste which solidifies after only 3 days of storage at room temperature.
Gemäss Beispiel I werden 34,3 g l^-Diamino-Z-p-tolylO-phenylbutan bzw.
