Abstract
Description
PARENTERALES ANWENDUNGSGERAT FÜ# PARENTERAL APPLICATION DEVICE FOR #
IN.RAVENOSIS INFUSIONS the invention relates to the field of intravenous Infusions and in particular the regulation of a liquid flow in one standard gravity operated parenteral applicator. The flow of liquid should be are essentially unaffected by changes in blood pressure in the vein Patients into whom the cannula of the application device has been inserted.
In Kronkenhäuser, intravenous infusions are widely used resorted to using large amounts of fluids, including blood, Medication and liquid nutrients. The standard infusion device exists from a bottle or bag with the liquid to be used in it, from a plastic applicator and from a suitable cannula for insertion into the patient's vein. The normal application device is gravity operation, the liquid flow rate via a simple plastic regulating clamp is controlled. The hospital staff who did the normal application devices uses and uses, noticed as a rule that these devices have a number of Exhibit shortcomings. In such common application devices, the container namely a vented bottle or a flexible plastic bag, held essentially at atmospheric pressure. The liquid runs out of this Through a small flexible plastic tube and drip into a drip chamber which is usually kept a third full. The liquid leaves the Drip chamber and runs down through a long flexible plastic tube and finally enters the cannula one inserted into the patient's vein is. The flow rate of the liquid that flows into the patient through the tube, is controlled by a KJs # fabric regulating clamp, which is suitable for controlling the Constrict plastic hose. Such a device is fully completed, except for the air entry into the container and the transfer of liquid to the Patient.
Since the liquid container is at a height of the order of Is held 1 meter above the point of entry into the patient, one exists Sufficient pressure head to force the fluid into the patient's vein. Without regulation, however, this pressure head would deliver the liquid at an undesirable level Flowing speed1 harms or even kills the patient could cause. In order to create a balance here1 the constricting effect becomes Valve on the flexible tube leading to the patient partially closed, whereby there is a pressure drop across the valve, so that the pressure of the liquid below the valve just slightly higher than the patient's venous pressure which opposes the inflow of the liquid. This then leads to a acceptable flow rate of the liquid. However, any change in the venous blood pressure of the patient for example by changing the body position, based on the inflow pressure, it can be sufficient be large in order to change the flow rate of the liquid considerably. As a result, these devices have to be constantly checked and readjusted in order to to give even flow. During use, the flow rate becomes the same the liquid adjusted by regulating the clamp so that the pressure level of the Liquid within the device at any given time is just greater than is the back pressure at the delivery end of the cannula, this back pressure being im the main issue is the venous blood pressure in the patient's artery. It has however, as mentioned, it turned out1 that the venous pressure in the patient's artery is prone to change as soon as the intravenous injection patient turns away sit down, lay down, do not turn, get breathing difficulties, etc. All of this has an effect on venous blood pressure. This can change even if the patient does his breathing speed or breathing depth varies during sleep. It surrender thus significant changes in the flow rate of such application devices, especially due to changes in the venous blood pressure of the Patient. A typical change in flow, determined by the drip rate due to of changes in venous pressure is illustrated in Figure 6 of an article which under the title ~ Behavior of Standard Gravity Fed Administration Sets Used for Intravenous Infusion in the British Medical Journal, August 17, 1974, pp. 439 bis 443 was published.
September 1973, Michael Goldowskyj.Proposals have already been made about the flow of liquid to be kept essentially constant in application devices. Find such suggestions for example in the U.S. Patent 3,929,157 issued December 30, 1975 to Juan R. Serur) and in U.S. Patent 3,756,233 (September 4, 1973 to Michael Goldowskyj.
However, it looks like the one suggested in these patents Flow regulating apparatus not used to any significant extent for the chamber will. In particular, he could not be found in hospitals. Also was found that flow changes in these devices due to incorrect operation may occur due, among other things, to changes in the fluid level in a first chamber into which the liquid from the unrotated container of the Application device flows in, although through an exnosed in the vertical direction Ronr. In addition, these devices include a pair of interconnected Chambers that help to make the flow more complex and reduce the costs to increase the device.
According to the invention it has now been found that the regulation of the liquid flow in the tube through the clamp can be achieved regardless of the venous pressure in the patient's vein at the delivery end of the cannula, thus essentially creating a constant flow through the application device is possible. This is done by that a vented blocking float valve in a common parenteral application device is installed, which has a plastic hose1 that extends from the projection of a inverted liquid container 1, for example a vented bottle or a flexible plastic bag, extending to a cannula, and further comprising a Drip chamber as well as is provided with a regulating clamp that allows the through the hose through which the flow of liquid is regulated, whereby the arrangement is # that the shutoff valve is upstream of the drip chamber and clamp.
According to the invention there is a gravity-operated parenteral application device Designed for intravenous infusions with a stiff, pointed tube for penetration into a downward outlet of a standard parenteral fluid container with a flexible hose to connect the stiff, pointed tube to a Cannula insertable into a patient's artery, with a drip chamber inside of the hose and with a regulating clamp for constricting the hose around the to control the flow of liquid coming out of the container, this application device is characterized by a closure float valve with a 'float and a Float chamber inside the ßchlausnes downstream of the drip chamber and the regulating clamp where the float valve is vented to the atmosphere and through internal fluid accumulation can open to allow the liquid to pass through the cannula so that the liquid flow is protected in the drip chamber. the effect of changes in blood pressure in the vein of aes patient.
The float valve can be in a separate camera downstream of the Drip chamber and the regulating clamp is arranged. However, the Float chamber the lower part of the drip chamber, with the regulating clamp upstream aer Iropfkommer lies. This has the advantage that the production is cheaper because only a single Karrmer is required.
Further advantages and features emerge from the following description preferred embodiments in connection with the accompanying drawing. The drawing shows in: FIG. 1 a schematic side view of the upper section an application device according to a first embodiment of the invention; figure Figure 2 is a similar schematic side view of the upper portion of an application device according to a further embodiment of the invention.
According to FIG. 1, the application device has a rigid, pointed tube 1, for penetration into the inverted outlet of a liquid container, not shown serves, for example, a bottle or a flexible plastic bag. Such a The bag is hung up in such a way that its drainage points downwards. The tube 1 has an air valve 2 to maintain the atmospheric pressure above the liquid, as long as it is a non-collapsing bottle0 is such a valve not required1 if a collapsing plastic bag is used. The tube 1 is hollow and communicates with a drip chamber 3 in connection 1 which is through a short flexible plastic hose 4 into a float valve 5 emptied. The hose 4 has a regulating clamp 6 to constrict the hose and thus regulate the flow of liquid. The float valve 5 is on atmospheric pressure maintained by means of a vent 7. It consists of a swimmer chamber 8 and an interchangeably accommodated swimmer 9. The float valve 5 empties into a flexible plastic hose 10 the discharge end of which sits a cannula, not shown, which is inserted into a patient's vein for intravenous infusion of the fluid.
Die Entlüftung 7 der Schwi#rk.uuer befindet sich im oberen Bereich der Tropfkammer 3.In Figure 2, the same components are provided with the same reference numerals. Here the float valve 5 is formed in one piece with the bottom of the drip chamber 3. The regulating clamp 6 sits in a # flexible section of the tube 1 upstream of the drip chamber 3. The vent 7 of the Schwi # rk.uuer is located in the upper area of the drip chamber 3.
To use the tube 1 is in the bottle or in the bag with the liquid introduced whereupon the valve or the clamp 6 is opened. the Liquid enters the drip chamber 3 drop by drop, this dripping process serves to measure the flow of liquid through the application device. Located an ineffective liquid level in the float valve 52 blocks the Float 9 the passage to the hose 10 and thus the infusion to the patient the cannula. When sufficient liquid has flowed into the float valve 5, the float 9 rises and allows the flow of liquid through the hose 10 to the patient. This outflow from the float valve 5 occurs faster than the subsequent flow from the drip chamber 3.
So when the liquid level in the float valve 5 drops, it lowers the float 9 again to close off the inlet into the hose 10 and in this way to prevent the air1 from entering the tube 10 and thus into the vein penetrate the patient. This process repeats itself, creating a periodic one Liquid flow from the bottle or
aus dem Beutel zum Patienten hervorgerufen wird. Die Periode hängt von der Tropfrate ab. Das Schwimmerventil 5 besitzt einen ausreichend großen Auftrieb um auf geringe Flüssigkeitsansammlungen anzusprechen, so daß also nicht die Gefahr besteht daß sich eine größere Flüssigkeitsmenge innerhalb des Schwimmerventils 5 oberhalb des Schwimmers ansammelt.is caused from the bag to the patient. The period hangs on the drip rate. The float valve 5 has a sufficiently large buoyancy to respond to low fluid build-up, so there is no danger there is a larger amount of liquid within the float valve 5 accumulates above the float.
It was thus found that the application device according to the invention Control problems of the previously known devices overcomes by a separation of functions took place on the one hand to regulate the drip rate and on the other hand to maintain it sufficient pressure to effect an infusion into the patient's vein. This separation of functions results from the float valve 5. At the upper end of the application device becomes the bottle or the bag with the liquid on atmospheric Pressure held by means of the air valve 2 or by collapse of the flexible plastic bag. Below the drip chamber 3 and the regulating clamp 6 there is another vent 7 to the atmosphere. Accordingly is this section of the device is open to the atmosphere at both ends, and the Drip rate becomes independent of changes in the patient's venous blood pressure. Below the float valve 5, the tube 10 is constantly filled with infusion fluid filled. The resulting pressure head when the float valve 5 is open is more sufficient to effect an infusion before the float valve 5 closes again. The vent 7 at the upper edge of the float valve 5 causes this valve is open to the atmosphere and works regardless of which liquid flow flows in from above. This separation of the two functions is a critical one Feature of the application device according to the invention.
