Description
The invention relates to a process for producing a crystalline zeolite powder of type A having the composition
1.0±0.2 Na2 O : Al2 O3 : 1.85±0.5 SiO2 · y H2 O ,
where y is a value up to 6, with 50 wt.% of particles below 4.9 µm and with a particle spectrum by hydrothermal crystallization of an alkali/aluminate/water/silicate synthesis mixture containing SiO₂, Al₂O₃, Na₂O and water, optionally with an attached tempering step.
a Na&sub2;O × b Al&sub2;O&sub3; × c SiO&sub2;
auf Temperaturen zwischen 50 und 300°C erhitzt wird.Zeolitic molecular sieves with their special properties for ion exchange and adsorption have been known for a long time. Their synthesis is based on the fact that an aqueous synthesis mixture with the components
a Na2 O × b Al2 O3 × c SiO2
heated to temperatures between 50 and 300°C.
Depending on the composition of the starting mixture, reaction temperature and reaction time, differently structured compounds of the general formula
Na x Al x Si y O 2 ( x + y ) · n H 2 O
which can be distinguished by their X-ray spectra. Sodium can be replaced by other monovalent or divalent metal cations.
For use as adsorbents, catalyst supports or ion exchangers, the molecular sieves are converted into molded bodies with a suitable binder. The production of the molded bodies requires a great deal of technical effort, while the effect is reduced at the same time due to the binder content. The long diffusion paths also significantly slow down the reaction rate, which makes drying organic liquids, for example, difficult. It is therefore sensible to use powdered molecular sieves in some applications.
(D. W. Breck, Zeolite Molekular Sieves, S. 388, John Wiley + Sons, New York-London, Sydney, Toronto, 1974).The known manufacturing processes (e.g. DE-PS 10 38 017) have in common that the molecular sieve synthesis produces crystals whose average diameter is above approx. 2 µm, with a significant proportion, usually between 3 and 12% by weight, having a limiting grain size of over 45 µm. This proportion is referred to as grit, which is determined according to DIN 53 580 by wet sieving according to Mocker. For a product typical of this process, it can be determined that approx. 25% by weight have particles under 10 µm in diameter, and 50% have a particle diameter of 13 µm. (D. W. Breck, Zeolite Molecular Sieves, p. 388, John Wiley + Sons, New York-London, Sydney, Toronto, 1974).
From the inaugural dissertation "On questions of synthesis and structure as well as adsorption and ion exchange properties of synthetic zeolites of type A" by Helmut Fürtig, Halle-Wittenberg, 1964, a process for the production of synthetic zeolite A is known in which relatively solid plates and crusts are obtained, which have to be crushed in a ball mill.
According to Fürtig, sodium silicate solution is introduced and heated to 35°C. Sodium aluminate solution is added over the course of 10 minutes. A batch mixture with the composition
From DE-OS 25 17 218 a process for producing a crystalline zeolite powder of type A is known, in which alkali silicate solution and low-concentration alkali aluminate lye are poured together simultaneously while stirring, the resulting synthesis premix is allowed to solidify to form a gel, a more highly concentrated aluminate lye is added to this gel and the resulting The resulting synthesis mixture can be crystallized.
Das erhaltene zeolithische Molekularsieb des Typs A hat das folgende Teilchensprektrum: The obtained zeolitic molecular sieve type A has the following particle spectrum:
The invention is based on the task of developing a process with which powdered, zeolitic molecular sieves of type A without grit (particles <45 µm) and with smaller grain sizes can be synthesized, particularly for use as ion exchangers, e.g. for water softening. The absence of grit and a smaller grain size are essential for the use of such molecular sieves, among other things, as phosphate substitutes in washing, dishwashing and cleaning agents. Washing and cleaning processes, particularly in machines, require the molecular sieve to remain suspended in the liquor (due to low sedimentation tendency) in order to enable complete rinsing after the process has ended.

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of the crystalline zeolite powder of type A with the composition
1.0±0.2 Na2 O : Al2 O3 : 1.85±0.5 SiO2 · y H2 O ,
where y is a value up to 6, with 50 wt.% of particles below 4.9 µm and with a particle spectrum by hydrothermal crystallization of an alkali/aluminate/water/silicate synthesis mixture containing SiO₂, Al₂O₃, Na₂O and water, with an optionally connected tempering stage, which is characterized in that an aqueous sodium silicate solution and an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution containing 0.1 to 500 g/l of NaOH or a sodium aluminate solution containing 0.1 to 100 g/l of Al₂O₃ are mixed. and 1 to 200 g/l Na₂O, are mixed with stirring in such a way that one component is initially introduced and the other component is added in such a way that the formation of an insoluble gel with an SiO₂/Al₂O₃ ratio of 2 to 50 is prevented for a period of 10 to 30 minutes, and that an aqueous sodium aluminate solution which contains 10 to 200 g/l Al₂O₃ and 10 to 250 g/l Na₂O is then added with stirring at a temperature between 10 and 100°C within a period of 10 to 200 minutes in two stages, the rate of addition in the second stage being two to ten times as high as in the first stage, and the synthesis mixture thus obtained is allowed to crystallize at a temperature between 20 and 175°C for at least 15 minutes.
In the process according to the invention, the synthesis mixture can contain the individual components in molar ratios as used in known processes (e.g. according to DE-PS 10 38 017 and DE-AS 10 95 795).
While the crystallization in the present case can be carried out at 93°C, for example, it has proven advantageous to carry out the tempering at a temperature between 85 and 105°C in the crystallization mother liquor, with tempering times between 0.2 and 6, in particular one hour, being favorable.
The tempering time begins at the point at which crystallization is complete, as indicated by the development of maximum ion exchange capacity, the achievement of maximum X-ray line intensity and the achievement of approximately 22.5% water vapor adsorption. In practice, an empirical value determined by recipe optimization is used as a basis.
The crystalline zeolite powder of type A produced according to the invention can be used as an ion exchanger, e.g. for water softening, in particular as a phosphate substitute in washing, dishwashing and cleaning agents.
Auflage, Band 18, Urban + Schwarzenberg, München, 1967).Such detergents are combinations of surface-active washing raw materials, but usually also contain other, mainly inorganic additives that contribute to the washing success or are necessary for the manufacturing process and the external production properties. The composition of the detergents varies according to the respective intended use, in particular it depends on the type of fiber, color and washing temperature, as well as on whether washing is done by hand, e.g. in a boiler, in a household washing machine or in a laundry. Most detergents are pourable powders. There are also liquid and paste-like products (see Ullmanns Encyklopädie der technische Chemie, 3rd edition, Volume 18, Urban + Schwarzenberg, Munich, 1967).
The crystalline zeolite powder of type A produced according to the invention has the advantage that it is grit-free and contains smaller particles when it is produced. When used as a phosphate substitute in washing and cleaning agents, it can therefore be easily kept suspended in the respective liquors and can be particularly easily rinsed out of washing and cleaning machines and their loading.

While stirring with a three-stage mixer, 500 l of sodium aluminate solution at 80°C with Na₂O=90 g/l and Al₂O₃=14 g/l are added to the 50°C warm water glass within 50 minutes. Towards the end of the addition, turbidity occurs.
In the slightly cloudy solution, first 100 l in 25 minutes and then 850 l in 65 minutes of a sodium aluminate solution at 70°C, which contains 148 g/l Na₂O and 103 g/l Al₂O₃, are added. The reaction mixture is heated to 87°C and crystallized for 2 hours. An X-ray pure zeolite A with the following particle spectrum is obtained: 50% by weight of which is below 3.2 µm. The reaction mixture is heated to 85°C and crystallized for 3 hours. X-ray pure zeolite A is obtained with the following particle spectrum: 50% by weight of which is below 4.4 µm. The particle size is determined by Coulter Counter measurement.
The reaction mixture is heated to 85°C and crystallized for 3 hours. Pure zeolite A is obtained with the following particle spectrum: 50% by weight of which is below 3.8 µm. The particle size is determined by Coulter Counter measurement.
