Abstract

The engine starting aid takes the form of a battery-powered lubricant preheating system. Heating elements fitted in the sump provide the max. possible heat transfer surface, and are designed for an operating temp. of about 328 deg. K to ensure a useful temp. difference. Power consumption is about 50W. A manual switch activates the system, which should be used immediately before the engine is required to run. Duration of use is 1-4 minutes, depending on ambient conditions. Cut-out can be automatic or manual; in the latter case a devise, pref. acoustic, should be fitted to give warning if the system is left switched on after engine start-up.
