Auf entsprechende Weise wurden hergestellt :2.6 g of the one obtained above. Esters were used for 6 hours 1 »33 g of aluminum chloride in tetrachloroethane heated to 125 ° C. A sample taken after this period became too dilute Hydrochloric acid added and the organic material was extracted into chloroform. The gas phase chromatography analysis of this solution showed that no ester remained and a comparison with an authentic sample showed that the product was 4-'-chloro-5-ethynyl-2-hydrox7-benzophenone acted. In a corresponding way were produced:

The reaction mixture was treated as in Example 15, the 5-ethyl-2-methoxy-3'-carbomethoxybenzophenone remaining. The latter was heated in 500 ml of a 55% aqueous hydrobromic acid solution at 110 to 120 ° C. for 5 hours. The mixture was evaporated to dryness leaving 5-ethyl-2-hydroxy-3'-carboxybenzophenone, which was characterized by having correct C, H and N microanalysis. The carboxylic acid latter was then contained overnight in 500 ml of methanol containing 5 m l of concentrated sulfuric acid, heated under reflux, poured into 1 1 Vasser, and extracted with ether. The combined ether extracts were washed with a saturated ITaHCO ^ solution, dried over MgSO ^, filtered and evaporated, leaving behind the desired ester, which gave a satisfactory microanalysis.
