Description
The invention relates to a process for the production of hydrocarbons by converting Methanol and / or dimethyl ether in the presence of a single catalyst.
The previous proposals for using zeolites as catalysts have been relatively unspecific. in the in general, all zeolites whose pores were large enough to contain reactants and products have been proposed to let through. Recently, however, there has been a trend towards a more precise definition of those used for catalysis Zeolites and to observe more specific information regarding the catalyzed reactions. This tendency has developed with the appearance of a new class of synthetic zeolites. New types of this Zeolites are constantly being found. This has made some extraordinary advances in conversions which are of particular interest in both the chemical and petrochemical industries.
From DE-OS 23 21 399 and 23 31 471 processes for the alkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons are in known to the vapor phase.
In DE-OS 24 38 252 a process for converting oxygen-containing aliphatics into Aromatics reported.
In these known processes, aluminosilicate zeolites are used as catalysts.
The invention is based on the object of specifying a process for the production of hydrocarbons, in particular olefins, by converting methanol and / or dimethyl ether in the presence of a catalyst. The process should proceed in good yields and with high selectivities.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by a process for the production of hydrocarbons by converting methanol and / or dimethyl ether in the presence of a catalyst which is characterized by this. that the reaction is carried out at temperatures of 300 to 700 ° C. in the presence of a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite with a silicon dioxide-aluminum oxide ratio of at least 12, in which at least some of the cations originally present have been replaced by hydrogen ions, with a catalytically inert support material if appropriate is available. and which has a selectivity index of 1 to 12 and which has a liquid or gaseous. Phosphorus-containing compound capable of reacting with the hydrogen ions of the zeolite. if appropriate in a solvent or as a mixture with a gaseous diluent, treated and then to 150 to 500 0 C erhil / l. wherein the amount of phosphorus compound in the catalyst corresponds to at least 0.5% by weight, in particular 2 to 15% by weight, of phosphorus, based on the zeolite.
The catalyst preferably contains 0.5 to 25% by weight, in particular 2 to 15% by weight, of phosphorus. Ks has been found, however, that fo r certain applications 0.78-4,5 wt ° / o, preferably from 0.78 to 2.5 wt .-%. sufficient. The zeolite preferably has a silica to alumina ratio of at least 30. Representatives of the ZSM-5 group and in particular the zeolite ZSM-5 itself are particularly suitable. There are also many other zeolites jedoc 11 in the context of the invention, for example, the zeolite ZSM-12 and ZSM-21st Regardless of the type of zeolite, these are preferably used together with a catalytically relatively inert matrix, for example in an amount of 35 parts by weight of zeolite to 65 parts by weight of matrix.
For certain applications of the catalysts according to the invention, the zeolite is impregnated with at least 0.1% by weight, based on the zeolite, with zinc, which is present as a zinc salt. The preferred range is between 1 and 4% by weight. In general, it is preferred to use zeolites having a silica-alumina ratio in the range between 60 and 300 and a crystal density in the dry hydrogen form of not less than 1.6 g / cm 3 .
To produce the phosphorus-containing catalysts, the zeolite is brought into contact with a phosphorus-containing compound and then heated. The phosphorus-containing compound can be in the vapor phase or the liquid phase. In the latter case, it can be used as a solution. A preferred phosphorus containing compound is orthophosphoric acid or one of its esters. Other suitable compounds are e.g. B. phosphorus trichloride, diphenylphosphine chloride, Diphenylphosphinsäui e, trimethyl phosphite or the reaction product of P2O5 with an alcohol. The esters or alcohols are preferably methylsler or methyl alcohols. A suitable temperature range for heating is from 150 ° to 500 0 C. The heating is preferably carried out in an atmosphere containing oxygen, it is often advantageous ν on exposing the zeolite between the treatment with the phosphorus compound and the heating steam.
To produce the zinc-containing catalyst, the zeolite is impregnated with the zinc by the Zeolite brought into contact with a liquid medium containing the zinc and then dried will. The liquid medium is generally a solution of a zinc salt such as the nitrate.
The stated silica to alumina ratio can be determined by conventional analysis. This ratio is intended to reflect as closely as possible the ratio of the rigid anionic structure of the zeolite crystal and exclude aluminum oxide in the form of a binder or in cationic form within the channels. Although zeolites are suitable having a silica to alumina ratio of at least 12 for the preparation of phosphorus-containing zeolites which are used according to the invention as catalysts, u: rd it preferably zeolites having a higher ratio of at least 30 to use. After activation, such zeolites have an incrystalline .Sorntinnskapacity for η-hexane which is greater than that for water, ie they show "hydrophobic" properties.
The zeolites suitable for the production of the phosphorus-containing zeolites sorb η-hexane free and have a pore dimension of more than about 5 A. In addition, the structure must have a selectivity for larger Create molecules. It is sometimes possible to estimate from a known crystal structure whether it is Selectivity is the only pore window in a crystal! for example, with an 8 lower Ring formed from oxygen atoms, then penetration is possible for molecules with a larger cross-section than n-hexane excluded, and these zeolites do not correspond to the desired type. Windows made of 10-membered rings are preferred, although excessive folding or pore blocking will render these zeolites ineffective can. 12-membered rings generally don't seem to provide adequate selectivity, though Structures are possible which are suitable due to the pore blockage or other reasons.
Instead of trying to estimate from the crystal structure whether a zeolite has the necessary forced selectivity or not, a simple determination of the "selectivity index" can be carried out by continuously applying a mixture of equal parts by weight of η-hexane and 3-methylpentane over a small sample, about 1 g or less of the zeolite is fed at atmospheric pressure according to the following procedure. A sample of the zeolite, in the form of pellets or an extrudate. is crushed to a particle size of roughly coarse sand and placed in a glass tube. Before the investigation, the zeolite is treated with a stream of air at 538 ° C. for at least 15 minutes. The zeolite is then flushed with helium and the temperature is between 288 ° and 51O 0 C adjusted to obtain a total turnover clipboard "i .. 10 and 60%. The mixture of hydrocarbons is passed over the zeolite at a liquid space velocity per hour (ie one volume of hydrocarbons per volume of zeolite per hour) with a helium dilution at a molar ratio of helium to total hydrocarbons of 4: 1. After 20 minutes of operation, a sample of the effluent is drawn and analyzed, most conveniently by gas chromatography, to determine the fraction that remains unchanged for each of the two hydrocarbons.
Der Selektivitätsindex wird folgendermaßen berechnet:The selectivity index is calculated as follows:
....... log IO (Fraktion des verbleibenden n-Hexans) ....... lo g IO (fraction of the remaining n-hexane)
Selektivitätsindex - |og I0(Fraktion des verbleibenden 3-Methylpentans)Selectivity index - | og I0 (fraction of the remaining 3-methylpentane)
Vorzugsweise liegt der Index /wischen etwa ? und 7.This index corresponds roughly to the ratio of the cracking constants of the two hydrocarbons. Suitable Zeolites are those which, as mentioned, have a selectivity index between 1 and 12. Preferably lies the index / wipe about? and 7.
Beispiele für Zeolithe, die ein Siliciumdioxid-Aluminiumcxid· Verhältnis von wenigstens 12 und einen Selektivitätsindex zwischen 1 und 12 aufweisen, sind die Zeolithe ZSM-5 (beschrieben in der US-PS 37 02 886), ZSM-11 (beschrieben in der US-PS 37 709 979), ZSM-12 (beschrieben in der fanzösischen Patentanmeldung 74-12078).Examples of zeolites which have a silica-alumina · ratio of at least 12 and a selectivity index between 1 and 12 are the zeolites ZSM-5 (described in US Pat. No. 3,7 02,886), ZSM-11 (described in US-PS 37,709,979), ZSM-12 (described in French patent application 74-12078).
If the zeolites are produced in the presence of organic cations, they are quite catalytically inactive. This is possibly due to the fact that the intracrystalline free space is occupied by organic cations from the formation solution. They can be activated, for example, by heating to 500.degree. C. for 1 hour in an inert atmosphere, subsequent base exchange with ammonium salts and subsequent calcination at 500.degree. C. in air. The presence of organic cations in the formation solution is not absolutely necessary for the formation of the zeolites. However, the presence of these cations appears to favor the formation of these special zeolites. In general, it is advantageous to activate the zeolite catalysts by exchanging bases with ammonium salts and after subsequent calcination in air at about 500 ° C. for a period of about 15 minutes to 24 hours. Natural zeolites can sometimes be converted to zeolites useful as catalysts in the present invention by various modes of activation and other treatments such as base exchange, steam aluminum extraction and calcining and the combinations of these measures.
Zeolites which are particularly suitable for producing the zeolites used according to the invention have a crystal density in dry hydrogen form of not significantly below about 1.6 g / cm 3 . It has been found that zeolites which meet these 3 criteria are the most suitable. The phosphorus-containing zeolites are therefore prepared from zeolites having a selectivity index between 1 and 12, a silica-alumina ratio of at least 12, and preferably a dry crystal density of not less than 1.6 g / cm 3 . The dry density for known structures can be calculated from the number of silicon atoms and aluminum atoms per 1000 A 3 , as described on page 11 of the publication on the zeolite structure by WM Meier in "Proceedings of the Conference on Molecular Sievs", London, April 1967, issued by the Society of Chemical Industry, London, 1968. If the crystal structure is unknown, the density of the crystal framework can be determined using the classic pycnometer technique.

Wenn die Phosphor enthaltende Verbindung in gasförmiger Form vorliegt, wie in dem Fall, wenn gasförmiges Phosphortrichlorid verwendet wird, kann die Phosphor enthaltende Verbindung selbst oder in Mischung mit einem gasförmigen Verdünnungsmittel, dasWhen the phosphorus-containing compound is a liquid, it can be used as a solution in a solvent be implemented with the zeolite. Any solvent opposed to the phosphorus containing compound and the zeolite is relatively inert can be used. Suitable solvents are aliphatic, aromatic and alcoholic liquids. When the phosphorus-containing compound is trimethyl phosphite or liquid phosphorus trichloride, a hydrocarbon solvent such as n-octane can be used will. The phosphorus-containing compound can be used with or without a solvent, d. that is, it can also be used as a pure liquid. When the phosphorus containing compound is in is present in gaseous form, as in the case when gaseous phosphorus trichloride is used, the Phosphorus-containing compound on its own or in admixture with a gaseous diluent which
gegenüber der Phosphor enthaltenden Verbindung und dem Zeolithen verhältnismäßig inert ist, wie Luft oder Stickstoff, verwendet werden.is relatively inert to the phosphorus-containing compound and the zeolite, such as air or Nitrogen, can be used.
The zeolite is preferably used before the zeolite is reacted with the phosphorus-containing compound dried. The drying can be carried out in the presence of air. Elevated temperatures can can be applied. However, the temperature should not be so high that the crystal structure of the zeolite gets destroyed.
It is also preferred to heat the phosphorus-containing catalyst after preparation and before use. The heating can be carried out in the presence of oxygen, e.g. B. air. The heating can be carried out at temperatures of about 15O 0 C. However, higher temperatures, for example up to 500 ° C., are preferred. It is heated for about 3-5 hours. It has been found that heating increases the catalytic effectiveness of the phosphorus-containing zeolites. The catalytic effectiveness is increased by increasing the heating temperature. Although heating temperatures above about 500 ° C can be used, this is not necessary. At a temperature of about 1000 ° C., the crystal structure of the zeolite is destroyed.
Um den AustauschThe amount of phosphorus that is incorporated into the crystal structure of the phosphorus-containing zeolite, is at least 0.5% by weight. bevorzugt, daß die Menge des Phosphors im Phosphor enthaltenden Katalysator wenigstens 0,78 Gew.-% beträgt. Phosphormengen von etwa 0,78 bis 4,5 Gew.-% entsprechen etwa 0,25 bis 1,45 Milliäquivalenten Phosphor je Gramm Zeolith.it is preferred that the amount of phosphorus in the phosphorus-containing catalyst is at least 0.78% by weight amounts to. The amount of phosphorus can be between about 2.5 and 4.5 wt.% Or more, for example up to 15 or even 25% by weight, although these larger amounts cause a decrease in the catalytic activity can occur. The weight of the phosphorus per 100 weight units of the zeolite is given under "% by weight" Understood. Amounts of phosphorus from about 0.78 to 4.5% by weight correspond to about 0.25 to 1.45 milliequivalents Phosphorus per gram of zeolite.
It was previously mentioned that it is not likely that the phosphorus is a component of the crystalline Framework of the phosphorus-containing zeolite is present. Evidence of this was provided by X-ray diffraction analysis of a zeolite before and after the introduction of phosphorus into the crystal structure. The lattice plane spacing c of the zeolite are essentially identical before and after the introduction of the phosphorus. on the other hand are the relative intensities of the 11.10 and 9.95 λ-d spacings of the phosphorus-containing zeolites from Depending on phosphorus, the relative intensities fall with the phosphorus concentration in the phosphorus containing zeolites. The relative intensities of the remaining c / distances are given by the presence of phosphorus in the phosphorus-containing zeolite is not changed. A characterization of phosphorus containing zeolites with respect to the zeolite can therefore be due to the reduction in 11,10- and 9.95 Å-c / spacings can be made as a result of the introduction of phosphorus into the zeolites.

The amount of phosphorus introduced into the zeolite by reaction with that containing phosphorus VprhinHuno h ^ p ^ 'v * n v ** <* cr »hii» Hi »nAn Factors 3b One of these factors is the reaction time d. At larger ratios of phosphorus-containing compound to zeolite, if again all other factors remain unchanged, a greater amount of phosphorus in the zeolite brought in. Other factors including the amount of phosphorus that is incorporated into the zeolite depends on the reaction temperatures, the concentration of the phosphorus-containing compound in the Reaction mixture, the drying state of the zeolite before the reaction with the phosphorus-containing one Compound and the drying conditions of the phosphorus-containing zeolite after the implementation of the Zeolites with the phosphorus-containing compound.
It has been found that the concentration of the phosphorus-induced weakly acidic slopes and therefore the catalytic activity of the phosphorus-containing zeolite is changed by water vapor. When treating the number of weakly acidic spots appears to increase with water vapor. This increase can occur after the phosphorus-containing zeolite is used as a catalyst, namely due to contact with water vapor contained in the catalyst charge or during the conversion of the feed is formed over the catalyst. Preferably, however, to take advantage of the benefits to achieve an initial increase in the catalytic activity of the phosphorus-containing zeolite, the Phosphorus-containing zeolite brought into contact with water vapor before use as a catalyst Further, it is preferred that this contacting with water vapor be carried out after the contacting of the phosphorus-containing compound, but before heating. Bringing in contact of the phosphorus-containing zeolite with the steam can be carried out in any suitable manner. For example can the sorption of water vapor on the phosphorus-containing zeolite for one hour in a vacuum desiccator at room temperature. The water vapor can also be sorbed by an inert gas such as helium is passed through water and the water carried by the phosphorus containing zeolites is passed in a reaction tube.
Beim erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren werden Methanol und/oder Dimethylälher mit dem Katalysator beiIn the process according to the invention, methanol and / or dimethyl ether are used with the catalyst
The temperature is preferably at least 3 JO 0 C. If the temperature increases above 300 ° C., the conversion of the methanol or dimethyl ether also increases. "Conversion" is to be understood as the percentage by weight of methanofe or dimethyl ether that react in the presence of the catalyst and form other compounds.
However, when the temperature reaches approx. 700 ° C., the selectivity towards olefins decreases. "Selectivity" is understood to mean the percent by weight of the converted methanol or dimethyl ether which becomes olefins.
EineMethanol alone or dimethyl ether alone can be contacted with the catalyst. One
It is believed, that when using methanol, either alone or in a mixture with dimethyl ether, the methanol in the presence the catalyst reacts and first forms dimethyl ether and that the products formed thereupon are those that result from the reaction of the dimethyl ether in the presence of the catalyst. Furthermore, the products obtained exclusively from reactions of methanol or dimethyl ether with themselves, and the presence of a reactant for the methanol or the dimethyl ether is not necessary.
The reaction of the methanol or dimethyl ether is preferably carried out in the vapor phase.
Fixed bed or moving bed methods can be used. A fixed bed process is preferred. The methanol or dimethyl ether is passed over a catalyst bed at one rate from about 1.5 to 14.5 weight units of the reactant per hour (space velocity (WHSV) of approx. 1.5 to 14.5). Lower space velocities in weight per hour can of course also be used can be applied. At any given reaction temperature, higher conversion will result at lower Preserve space velocities.

Sample can be referred to as the "activated acidic form of zeolite".
A 10 g sample of the zeolite was added to 3.94 ml of trimethyl phosphite dissolved in 50 ml of n-octane in a flask. The mixture was heated to reflux temperature (about 120 0 C) for 72 hours under a slow stream of nitrogen. A 25 cm long Vigreux column was finally attached to the bottle or flask and 21 g of the liquid was collected at 90 to 113 ° C for subsequent analysis. The solids were filtered off and washed with 100 ml each of pentane, methylene chloride and pentane; they were then poison-dried and then dried in a vacuum oven at RO 0 C overnight. They were finally pressed into plates or wafers, broken up and sieved out in a sieve with a mesh size of 1.65 to 2 mm and heated in air at 500 ° C. for a period of 3 hours. The resulting product was the phosphorus-containing zeolite. The process described above was repeated with 10 other products, the ratio of trimethyl phosphite to zeolite and the reaction time, ie the contact time of the trimethyl phosphite with the zeolite, being changed. One of the samples was heated to 300 ° C instead of 500 0 C. Another sample was heated with a large excess of neat trimethyl phosphite, ie without η-hexane as a solvent.
A part of the phosphorus-containing zeolites was analyzed with X-rays. The results are listed in Table I in weight percentage and have been calculated on a dry weight basis after the zeolite has been heated about V2 hour at 1000-1100 0 C. This heating was done for analytical purposes only to ensure absolute dryness. Although the phosphorus remained, the crystal structure was likely destroyed. For comparison purposes, the zeolite was analyzed prior to conversion to a phosphorus-containing zeolite. This analysis is identified as Sample 1 in the table. The sample 6 was the one sample that was heated to 300 0 C. Sample 11 was the sample treated with a large excess of pure trimethyl phosphite. The weight loss is the thermal, gravimetric weight loss and was determined at 900 ° C. using standard techniques. It was found that most of the weight loss reported in the table is due to the water, although traces of organic material (approx. 0.5-2%) were also found in the withdrawing gases.

This example illustrates the stability of the phosphorus-containing zeolite under the conditions of its use as a catalyst.
From Table II it can be seen that the compositions of the catalysts during their use and their regeneration remain essentially unchanged. The absence of a loss of phosphorus disappears a strong bond between the phosphorus and the zeolite.

This example shows the lack of influence of phosphorus on the unit cell dimensions of the Zeolites and the decrease in the relative intensity of the 11.10 and 9.95 Ä-rf distances due to the incorporation of Phosphorus in the zeolites.
Dabei istA ZSM-5 zeolite devoid of phosphorus and four phosphorus-containing ZSM-5 zeolites, each phosphorus-containing zeolite containing a different amount of phosphorus, were subjected to X-ray analysis to determine their specific X-ray diffractions. The images were measured automatically with a proportional counting diffractometer using CuKa (double) radiation. The peak height / and the band position as a function of 2Θ were used to calculate the relative intensities (100 I / I) . It is
"I" is the highest line intensity and "dobs" is the interplanar spacing in A. Table III compares the relative intensities of 7 main c / spacings as a function of the phosphorus concentration.
It can be seen from Table III that the / distances for the zeolite without phosphorus and the zeolite containing phosphorus are essentially identical. It can also be seen from the table that there was a decrease in the relative intensities of interplanar spacing at d- 11.10 Å and d- 9.95 Å of the phosphorus-containing zeolite and that the decrease is linearly proportional to the amount of phosphorus. The fact that the c / distances of the zeolite without phosphorus and that of the phosphorus-containing zeolite are essentially identical indicates that the phosphorus does not appear as a component of the crystal structure of the phosphorus-containing zeolite. It is also observed that when the amount of phosphorus was 0.78% by weight, the decrease in the d- spacings at 11.10 and 9.95 Å was at least 15%.

The zeolite was then in a glass flask with 167.5 ml of n-octane and 13.2 ml of trimethyl phosphite mixed. This flask was equipped with a reflux condenser, a dry nitrogen purge line, and a Thermometer provided. The end of the hindfoot cow was provided with a calcium chloride faiie around the Protect the flask contents from moisture. The contents of the flask were gently refluxed overnight heated. After cooling, the liquid phase in the flask was filtered off. and the remaining solids were washed on a filter funnel with 250 ml of methylene chloride and then 250 ml of n-pentane. Of the Zeolite was then placed in a vacuum oven at 110 ° C for 2 hours, cooled and placed in a desiccator stored The phosphorus content of the zeolite was 4.51%. As a final step, the zeolite was placed in a reactor and heated to 200-250 ° C in a stream of dry nitrogen

ursprünglichen Wasserstofform des ZSM-5-Zeolithen erhalten werden.original hydrogen form of the ZSM-5 zeolite.
Referring to Table V, in Run 2, 85% of the methanol was converted at 385 ° C. This means a selectivity for hydrocarbons of about 13%. for dimethyl ether of 51% and for water of 36%. in experiment 4 at 560 ° C., apparently all of the methanol and the intermediate dimethyl ether were converted into hydrocarbons (approx. 45%) and water (approx. 54%). The maximum theoretical conversion in hydrocarbons is 43.8% and in water 56.2%. If one compares the results when using the ZSM-5 zeolite (Table VI) with the use of the phosphorus-containing zeolite in Experiment 2, the Ci-C * paraffins fall from 39 to 5% and the aromatics from 40 to 20%. On the other hand, the olefins increase from i.57% to 39.4%. It can also be seen from Table IV that at a temperature of 325 ° C. the selectivities for Cr and CrOIefins are high compared to the selectivities for Cj and Cj paraffins. At temperatures above 325 ° C, the selectivities for C2-. Cj- and CrOIefins high compared to the selectivities for Cj-. Cj and Ci paraffins.

Die Zusammensetzung des aus dem Reaktor austretenden Stroms in Gewichtsprozent ist in Tabelle VIII gegeben.doors and the selectivity for [hydrocarbon products in percent by weight, normalized to 100%. The composition the weight percent of the stream exiting the reactor is given in Table VIII.
From Table VII it can be seen that the selectivities for light olefin (defined as ethylene, propylene and butene) ranged from 43-70 weight percent. Propylene was the main component at temperatures of 500 "-700 0 C, where high conversions were obtained in hydrocarbons. The proportion of ethylene increased from 3% to 18% at these higher temperatures. The Butenherstellung was significant and tended to 20% to 14% at these higher temperatures. As the temperature increased, the higher aliphatic fraction, defined as C5 and above, decreased regularly from 34% to 10% as the temperature increased. The fraction was also more olefinic Nature.

Nach jedem Versuch wurden die Produkte gesammelt und analysiertA phosphorus containing zeolite was prepared according to the general procedure as described in Example 1. The amount of phosphorus in the zeolite was 4.5% by weight. A certain amount of zinc nitrate to give 1% by weight zinc (based on the weight of the zeolite) was dissolved in an appropriate amount of water to fill the pore volume of the zeolite. The zeolite was placed in the aqueous solution. After the solution had acted, the zeolite was heated at 500 ° C. for one hour in an air stream of 100 ml per minute. Samples of this zeolite were used as a catalyst to convert dimethyl ether. Dimethyl ether was passed in the gas phase at a space velocity in weight per hour of 2.3 over the zeolites arranged in fixed bed form. A different temperature was used for each of the 4 experiments. After each experiment, the products were collected and analyzed

The results are shown in Tables XV and XVl. In Table XV are the selectivities for Hydrocarbon products given in percent by weight, in Table XVI the; Weight percent of the products in the streams exiting the reactor.
By comparison with Tables XV and XVI can be seen that at temperatures of 300 ° C, 350 0 C and 400 ° C the conversions obtained with the zinc-impregnated phosphorus-containing zeolites compared to the conversions containing the phosphorus zeolite without zinc Impregnation obtained increased from 0.22 to 4.8%, from 5.7 to 63.3% and 56.7 to 87.2%.
