Die Erfindung betrifft ein Mittel zur Beseitigung der Kropfkrankheit, der sogenannten
Kohlhernie, von Kohlarten, Wurzelgewächsen usw. Das Mittel wird in folgender Weise
hergestellt. Eine bestimmte Menge der Müllgrube entnommene Steinkohlenasche wird mit
trockenem, gebranntem Stückkalk innig vermischt und in Haufen aufgeschüttet, bis die
in der Asche und den beigemengten Küchenabfallen u. dgl. enthaltenen Fäulniserreger
durch den Kalk abgetötet sind und dieser selbst durch allmähliche Aufnahme von Feuchtigkeit
abgelöscht worden ist. Ist der Kalk in dem Haufen vollständig gelöscht, so wird die Masse auf das von der Kropfkrankheit
befallene Land in mehr oder weniger starker Schicht aufgetragen und dann etwa spatentief
eingegraben oder untergepflügt. In kurzer Zeit wirkt die Mischung auch auf die sie umgebende
Erde keimtötend ein, und infolgedessen verschwindet die Kropfkrankheit vollständig,
und zwar ohne daß die Pflanzen durch den Kalk geschädigt werden. Auf nach diesem Verfahren behandeltem Boden halten
sich auch keine Schnecken, Regenwürmer und anderes Ungeziefer auf, und ferner verschwinden
die Maulwürfe, da sie keine Nahrung mehr finden.
Wird das Mittel etwa alle drei' Jahre angewendet, so kann auf dem Felde auch Stall·-
oder Fäkaldünger benutzt werden, ohne daß die Kropfkrankheit von neuem ausbricht,
während bisher die vorerwähnten Düngersorten die Ausbreitung der Krankheit förderten.
Als sehr zweckmäßig hat sich ein Gemisch aus drei Teilen Steinkohlenasche und einem Teil
gebranntem, trockenem Stückkalk erwiesen, doch können auch andere Mischungsverhältnisse
Verwendung finden.
