Abstract

The beverage maker, more particularly a domestic coffee maker, is provided with a through-flow heater and thermostat wherein the latter is connected to a light source (4) whose light strikes a totally reflecting prism (6) associated with a chalk indicator (10) which signifies the amount of furring up which has taken place in the heater and machine and is to be removed. The light from the prism passes to a photo-transistor which fires a thyristor which in turn is linked to a luminescent diode. In a variation of the design an acoustical warning signal of excessive furring up can be provided alternatively.
