Abstract
Description
Detachable Connection Arrangement for Optical Waveguides The invention relates to an arrangement for detachable connections of individual optical waveguides with a guide in prismatic grooves.
The transmission of information in light transmission systems takes place by means of fiber optic cables, which cannot be produced in any length can be used in smaller sections or for other reasons. Therefor appropriate connection arrangements are then necessary to meet the special requirements must be placed in relation to the joint of the fiber optic cables to be connected, to keep the transition attenuation as low as possible. Such connection arrangements are known. For example, German Offenlegungsschrift 2 233 916 describes a connection arrangement for optical glass fibers, which consists of a Capillary tube consists in which the glass fibers to be connected up to the mutual Contact can be introduced from both sides. Furthermore are from the German Auslegeschrift 2 207 900 and from German Offenlegungsschrift 2 013 069 connection arrangements known, in which corresponding sockets or plugs at the ends of the optical fibers are appropriate.
The object of the invention is now to provide a connection arrangement to develop for single fiber optic cables, which can be detached, reliable clamping and centering devices for the individual optical waveguides to be connected and an observation of the joint or even some access to the joint during assembly.
The object is achieved by the invention in that the prismatic Grooves arranged on support bodies with a rectangular or circular cross-section and are covered by appropriately adapted cover body that the to be connected Individual optical waveguides in these prismatic grooves opposite one another and longitudinally displaceable are stored that at the ends of the prismatic grooves suitable clamping devices and suitable clamping and centering devices at the joint in the middle for the individual optical waveguides are arranged and that escape cavities for the to be connected individual optical waveguides formed on both sides of the joint The individual light waveguides to be connected are usually made of plastic coated to protect the actual fiber optic cable against damaging influences schZtzan These single light waveguides cannot be coated evenly so that a centering over the coating at the joint is only right For this reason, the coating on the fiber optic ends is insufficient removed in order to achieve the best possible centering in the joint area. In addition, the groove is covered in this area so that a longitudinal displacement the single light waveguide is just about possible. A particular advantage of the Invention can also be seen in the fact that the groove serbst or the cover of the groove Has alternate cavities into which the individual optical waveguides during the insertion process, after they already touch, can evade to a certain extent. in this The individual optical waveguides at both ends of the grooves with the state are then Clamps clamped. Due to the arched deviations of the individual optical waveguides are the different thermal expansions of the different materials with temperature changes excellently balanced.
The invention will now be based on two exemplary embodiments, which are shown in Figures 1 and 2 or 3, explained in more detail.
In the prismatic groove 2, which is perpendicular to the plane of the drawing runs and in the support body designed as a base plate with a rectangular cross-section 1 is incorporated, the individual optical waveguides to be connected are introduced. The prismatic groove 2 is covered by a cover body 3, which means Screws 8 is firmly connected to the support body 1 and in the area along the Groove 2 is worked out so that the introduction of the single optical waveguide with coating can be done. In this case, the elaboration is also in the cover body as a groove, but with a larger cross-section than that which the groove 2 has and at the same time serves as an alternative cavity 4 for those introduced in this area coated single fiber optic cables that are already touching at the joint.
In Fig. 1 a specially designed screw 5 can also be seen, which is used as a clamping device 5-6-7 for the individual optical waveguides. In order to provide a better insight into the connection arrangement, the connection arrangement shown in Fig. 1 is a section II-II placed and in FIG. 2 shows the prismatic which is worked into the carrier body 1 Groove 2 can be seen, which is matched in the groove depth so that the bare individual light waveguide with as little play as possible in the area of the joint lying flat Cover body 3 covered groove 2 remain longitudinally displaceable. It should be noted, that the individual optical waveguides only provide in the area of the plane covered joint must be freed from the coating. Furthermore, there are the evasive cavities 4 can be seen in the cover body 3, in which the individual optical waveguides after touching in the Able to evade the joint. The clamping devices 5-6-7 at both ends of the groove 2 are formed from hollow cylindrical screws 5, in the inner recess of which a bolt 6 is inserted in each case. This bolt 6 is at the upper end with a circumferential notch, which with a through the radial arranged hole in the screw to be inserted pin 9 so coordinated is that the bolt 6 remains freely rotatable. This has the advantage that the bolt 6, which exerts pressure on the elastic plate 7 when the screw 5 is screwed in, does not turn. The plate 7 is therefore on the introduced individual optical waveguides without a rotational movement pressed, whereby damage or tilting is avoided. The embodiment also offers the great advantage that the joint by unscrewing the also like the described clamping devices trained centering device during the entire previous assembly process can be observed.
This facilitates the assembly to a considerable extent and results in comparison to completely covered joints a much higher security and thus a lower reject rate. In addition, there is the advantage that the joint can be wetted with immersion liquid in the finally assembled state, whereby the attenuation in the transition area can be reduced considerably.
After all these operations have been carried out, the can also be used as a Centering device 5-6-7 acting in the joint area are screwed in, through which both individual optical waveguide ends are pressed into the groove 2 and are aligned and centered by the prismatic shape of the groove 2.
The second embodiment is shown as an axial sectional view in Fig. 3 shown. It is a cylindrical, detachable connection arrangement, which is particularly suitable as a splice connector. It contains the advantages already described in the first embodiment. Here is the carrier body 10 designed as a cylindrical bolt, in the axial direction along a Surface line with the prismatic groove several areas 19, 18 and 2 is embedded. The cylindrical bolt 10 is designed as a tube Cover body 11 inserted and firmly connected to this. The individual optical fibers to be connected are inserted into the prismatic groove 19 from both sides after they have previously are freed from their coating at their ends. The prismatic groove is in their area 2 on both sides of the joint in turn is designed so that the bare single fiber optic cables just move with as little play as possible permit. In this embodiment example, the alternative cavities 18 are expedient designed as a recess of the groove on both sides of the area 2 of the joint and the two areas 19 at the ends of the groove are designed so that the coated Individual optical waveguides can be added. After the e the single light waveguide while observing the joint through the hole 15 made in the cover body 11 with the formation of the expansion arcs in the escape cavities 18 from both sides have been introduced, they can by means of the clamping devices designed as stuffing boxes are jammed, so that the joint of the individual optical waveguides against tensile forces is secured from the outside. The clamping devices 13-14-12 are by pressure screws 12 which are screwed into the threaded ends of the cover body 11 can be. This acts on an elastic material 13 inside the stuffing boxes Exerted pressure on pressure plates 14, so that this is also against the inserted Presses individual optical waveguides and thereby fixes them in their position. The joint the individual optical waveguide can additionally pass through the bore 15 with immersion liquid are wetted. Then the individual fiber optic cables are attached using the clamping and centering device 16-17, which consists of a introduced into the bore 15, elastic Plug 16 and a resilient, pushed over clamp 17 consists in the prismatic Groove aligned and centered in the area of the joint. The ones in the evasive cavities 18 evasive single light waveguides are the same as in the first one Embodiment occurring expansion differences of the different materials with temperature changes which causes stress and possible separation of the fiber optic ends is avoided. If the temperature compensation can be dispensed with, then one Variants without alternative cavities possible. This then also results in a lower one Overall length of the connection arrangement.
