Description

The invention relates to an injection-moldable material for radiation protection purposes.
Materials for radiation protection purposes are used in various fields. That’s what it’s about As a rule, if there is no transparency of the component to be produced from the radiation protection material is required to have lead or other metal shielding. For example, mats are also made Lead fibers or lead foils are known, which are used as radiation protection for the Treatment staff are used and, on the other hand, serve to prevent tissue parts that are not to be irradiated to cover the patient.
On the other hand, there are also many areas of application in which those made of the radiation protection material The components to be manufactured should be transparent, for example in the case of the windows of certain apparatuses. So far, such radiation protection windows have generally been made from high-lead-containing silicate glass manufactured. However, it has proven to be difficult to produce components that at the same time have a good radiation protection effect offer and also have a high dielectric strength, in a non-planar form manufacture, as is the case, for example, with the protective hoods for X-ray tubes, by means of which the scattered radiation should be eliminated, is the case. The production of such protective hoods or in general Complex shaped components made of high lead content Siükatglas is naturally very difficult, so that often only the path remains, one made up of various individual elements, for example glued together To use component.
The invention is based on the object of creating a radiation protection material which, while maintaining a good radiation protection effect and a high dielectric strength and can be processed more cost-effectively into components even of a complex shape than with the known highly leaded silicate glass is the case.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by a plastic compound made of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, the, based on 100 parts by weight of plastic compound, 50 to 150 parts by weight of black lead (PbO) are added.
The preparation of the material according to the invention is carried out in a manner that is first heated an ethylene-vinyl acetate Copoiymerisai in the form of granules under agitation to a temperature of about 14O 0 C; that then, based on 100 parts by weight of plastic compound, 50 to 150 parts by weight of black lead in powder form are added; and then the mixture is rolled and granulated.
Particularly advantageous further development of the radiation protection pulp and the method according to the invention are the subject of the dependent claim.
While it has previously been considered impossible to find an injection moldable plastic-based material to find the required protection against radiation, additionally also the desired electrical Dielectric strength, as it is with protective hood; '! is required for X-ray tubes and the like, the material according to the invention can easily be made into components in the conventional injection molding process process any shape. Surprisingly, it has been shown that the injection moldability of the Ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer mass is not lost even with high additions of black lead (PbO) goes. In addition, studies have shown that the lead equivalent of plates obtained from the inventive Material are produced, increases disproportionately with increasing platinum content, as it follows that a disk made of the material according to the invention with a thickness of 10 mm and a smooth lead of 66.6 parts per 100 parts of plastic compound has a lead equivalent of 1.17 mm (with X-ray irradiation with a tube voltage of 110 kV and a total filtering of 0.5 mm Cu), while at 80 parts by weight Black lead the lead equivalent is already 2.07 mm. Under "lead equivalent" is, as well in the following, the thickness of a solid lead plate, which has the same protective effect as has the examined pane made of the radiation protection material according to the invention.
Bei einer Temperatur von 140°C führt ein 30minütiges intensives Kneten der beiden Komponenten zur Herstellung einer homogenen Mischung.15 kg of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer with a vinyl acetate content of 10 percent by weight are introduced into an internal kneader with a chamber volume of 25 liters. By supplying heat to 140 ° C., the plastic compound reached a plasticized state after 20 minutes. Then 12 kg of powdery black lead are introduced into the kneading area of the mixer through the feed opening of the kneader. At a temperature of 140 ° C, intensive kneading of the two components for 30 minutes leads to the production of a homogeneous mixture.
Before opening the emptying device of the internal kneader, the temperature of the heatable and coolable kneader housing is then reduced to approx. 90 ° C. The mixture is then on a roll mill with two rolls whose temperature is 8O 0 C, further processed. Between the two rollers, the mass is mixed for another 10 minutes by squeezing and milling processes. Then, the mixture is withdrawn as fur and decreased mm in a band granulator with 450 mm throat width at 7O 0 C to form granules with a length of 3 to 5
In the usual injection molding process, this radiation protection material was made plane-parallel with a thickness of 10 mm Plates are produced, whereupon the lead equivalent value in X-rays of 110 kV in a narrow beam (DIN 6845) was determined. The test specimen was compared with a lead absorber of such thickness that in both cases the same weakening of the dose rate occurred. One served as an indicator Scintillation dosimeter, the irradiated field having a diameter of 30 mm.
In addition, in a manner analogous to the above
gegeben, ein Werkstoff hergestellt, bei dem jedoch nicht 80 Gewichisteile Bleiglätte, sondern nur 66,6 Gewichsteile Bleiglätte pro 100 Gewichtsteile Kunststoffmasse verwendet wurden.given, a material produced in which, however, not 80 parts by weight of black lead, but only 66.6 parts by weight Black lead per 100 parts by weight of plastic compound were used.
Gewicht von 71 g.The slices thus obtained with a thickness
10 mm, the diameter of which was 65 mm, holder, in the case of the first-mentioned exemplary embodiment, in which 80 parts by weight of black lead were used, a weight of 106 g and in the other case a weight of 71 g.
With an overall measurement uncertainty of the individual lead equivalents of ± 0.005 mm, the following Get results.
The table above shows first of all that with an increase in the smooth lead content, the radiation protection effect (lead equivalent) increases disproportionately, an effect which could not be expected in any way. Furthermore, the excellent radiation protection effect of the radiation protection material according to the invention results overall, because in order to achieve a lead equivalent of 2.07 mm, as was obtained with the material with 80 parts by weight of black lead with a thickness of 10 mm, the usual high-lead radiation protection glass with a thickness of approx. 7 mm would have to be used. In this case, however, the density of the glass would be 5.05 g / cm 3 , while the density of the radiation protection material according to the invention is only 1.39 g / cm 1 . As a result, the radiation protection material according to the invention, in addition to being easy to process in the injection molding process, has the advantage that, due to the low specific weight to achieve high lead equivalents, the thickness of the plates or components that are to be made from the material can be increased without adverse consequences.
The material according to the invention can easily be processed into technical components of any shape, such as protective hoods, cover plates, closures and seals for shielding from X-rays, at melt temperatures of approx. 170 ° to 230 ° C. in the conventional injection molding process. It should also be noted that, according to the invention, 10 to 12% vinyl acetate content is preferably selected in the plastic compound, because the degree of softness of the material increases sharply with higher vinyl acetate content, which reduces the strength of the components to be manufactured by injection molding to technically unsatisfactory values. With a vinyl acetate content of 10%, on the other hand, the Shore A hardness according to D (N 53505) is 95, while the modulus of elasticity is 75 N / mm 2 .
Of course, for certain applications, a lower platinum content than that could also be used be selected according to the invention claimed, but it has been shown that the use of 50 to 150 parts by weight of black lead, based on 100 parts by weight Copolymer, leads to a satisfactorily processable injection-moldable mass, so that lower Platinum content only in special cases in which a particularly high protective effect is not required is likely to be eligible.
When using a material with 100 parts by weight of PbO per 100 parts of plastic compound, a Lead equivalent of approx. 3.5 and more can be obtained.
The 10 mm thick plate produced from a radiation protection material according to the invention with a smooth lead content of 80 parts, the radiation protection values of which are given above, had a dielectric strength E d of 15 kV / mm, a loss factor tan δ of 0.017 and a dielectric constant ε of 4, 7 on. This means that the 10 mm thick plate has a total dielectric strength of approx. 150 kV, far more than is usually required by shielding against high-energy radiation on electrical devices such as X-ray tubes.
