Description
The invention relates to a method for treating an object made of silicon-containing steel and provided with an insulating protective coating made of silicate, such as dynamo sheet and band and transformer sheet and band, with a solution containing phosphate in order to apply a metaphosphate layer. In the production of sheet material from silicon-containing steel, so-called electrical sheet, with grain orientation, the sheet material is subjected to a heat treatment at about 850 to 135O 0 C after rolling and decarburization in order to bring about a grain increase in the crystals, which is necessary for the sheet material obtains the required magnetic properties.
Before the heat treatment, the sheet material is coated with chemicals which, during the heat treatment, are intended to form an electrically insulating protective coating on the sheet metal material. A known protective covering of this type can consist of a reaction product of silicon dioxide, which has formed on the surface of the sheet material, and an applied oxide or hydroxide of an alkaline earth metal, normally magnesium. The protective coating is applied to the surface of the sheet material by slurrying the alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide in water and applying it as an even layer to the sheet material, after which the sheet metal undergoes the above-mentioned heat treatment at a temperature of approximately 850-135O 0 C for several 6s subjected hours in hydrogen gas atmosphere, the temperature, however, should rise up to 1000 to 133O 0 C, damii with a well-trained safety glass film on the sheet material may form. The hydroxide which is initially present in the slurry, or which is formed from the oxide by absorption of water, gives off water during the heating of the sheet material, and thus has the ability to contain silicon in the steel at temperatures which are within the aforementioned range to oxidize to silicon dioxide without simultaneously oxidizing the iron. The oxide that is formed from the hydroxide when the water is released, or that may have been added from the beginning and escaped hydration, reacts with the silicon dioxide during the heat treatment during the formation of the aforementioned, well-formed glass film on the surface of the sheet material. The glass film can also be obtained by using a carbonate of an alkaline earth metal. The carbon dioxide given off by the carbonate when it is heated can namely oxidize silicon to silicon dioxide without the iron being oxidized. After the silicon dioxide has been formed, glass formation proceeds in the manner described above. A possible excess of the oxide, which did not react during the glass formation, serves as a spacer material between adjacent layers of sheet metal parts, which can either be rolled up to form a roll or can be present as lamellas in a stack. This material prevents the layers from sticking or sintering together. A protective covering made of silicate of the type described above has an inadequate electrical insulation resistance for many purposes, which is why the protective covering is often reinforced by treatment with phosphoric acid and metal phosphates, especially alkaline earth metal phosphates. The solution must be acidic so that the phosphates can be kept in solution.
If the protective covering made of silicate is coated with phosphate by known methods, the protective covering can become porous. This is due to the fact that the phosphate penetrates the silicate layer and loosens it. The penetration of the phosphate also means that the otherwise good adhesion of the protective covering to the sheet metal is impaired, and uaß the toughness of the protective covering and thus the resistance to bending, for example, is worsened. The loosening of the protective covering also means that it can easily be blown off the sheet metal during the afterglow at approximately 800 ° C., which is carried out in order to remove internal stresses present in the sheet metal. Because of the porosity of the protective covering, gases can penetrate into the sheet material and cause the unfavorable effect.
From British Patent 9 83 332 a method is known in which sodium phosphate for Production of an insulating protective covering is used. The resulting protective coatings made of sodium metaphosphate have the disadvantage that their solubility in oil, such as transformer oil, is always that contains dissolved water is too large, which means that these deposits are attacked by the oil and considerably to be worsened. Permanent protective coatings cannot therefore be obtained using this process.
No. 32 14 302 Process known in which acidic monophosphate solutions are used. In this procedure However, the phosphate penetrates into the silicate layer and loosens it, so that the adhesion of the protective covering on the sheet deteriorates and the toughness
Thus it is also known after this Process not possible to obtain firmly anchored protective coverings with a long service life.
The object of the invention is to achieve the application of a phosphate layer that is effective on the Protective covering made of silicate is anchored without this protective covering being loosened and its adhesion to Sheet metal is deteriorated.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in a method of the type described above in that an alkali metal free water solution with a pH value of at least 9 is applied, the monophosphate ions and copper and / or chromium amine ions contains, and that the object with the applied phosphate solution to a temperature ωη at least 55O ° C is heated, whereby the resulting metaphosphate layer is anchored to the protective covering made of silicate.
As an example of complex ions in the phosphate solution according to the present invention, there can be mentioned tetramine copper (II) ions, Cu (NH 3 ) 4 2+ , and hexammine chromium (III) ions, Cr (NH 3 ) e 3 \.
Die verwendete Phosphatlösung soll daher außer den komAn explanation for the good results obtained according to the present invention is as follows: When phosphate is applied in acidic solution in a known manner, the solution contains H 3 PO 1 . When the coated sheet is heated, the silicate coating begins to loosen up due to the influence of H 3 PO 4 at 80 J C and then progresses more and more vigorously as the temperature rises, as long as water is present ever lower water content and with consumers. the penetration capacity in the silicate coating and finally HPO 3 . HPO 3 is partially driven off and partially diffuses into the silicate coating and causes damage to the same. HPO 3 also gives rise to the formation of metal phosphates through a reaction with the silicate in the silicate coating. By adding ammonia according to the present invention, the unfavorable influence of H 3 PO 1 and other phosphoric acids is eliminated. Instead, harmless ammonium phosphates are formed, which are intact as long as there is still water available and which are decomposed at higher temperatures without leaving residues in the form of harmful acids. In addition, complex metal ions are formed that keep the phosphate in solution, which is important for even application. These compounds with complex-bound ammonia are also decomposed at higher temperatures with the escape of ammonia and the release of metal phosphates. These phosphates do not penetrate the silicate covering, but rather remain on the surface with some diffusion in the silicate covering, which results in effective anchoring in it. The solvent is removed when the latter process takes place. Diffusion comes about because the phosphate formed has a certain solubility in the silicate in the protective covering. Particularly favorable results are obtained if the starting material is chosen in such a way that metaphosphates are formed during the heat treatment, because metaphosphates anchor themselves particularly easily to the silicate at the temperatures normally used for phosphate coating. The phosphate solution used should therefore except the com

Metal phosphates applied according to the invention produce the good properties required for a phosphate coating are characteristic, namely high insulation strength, high resistance to chemicals, like transformer «) !, and a good ability to act as an adhesive for plastics, which among other things in the case of castings in plastics that occur in the manufacture of dry-insulated transformers can, is an advantage.
Due to the extremely good adhesion that can be obtained according to the present invention between the Silicate covering and the sheet metal, the silicate covering can - thanks to a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than the sheet metal - keep the finished sheet metal in mechanical tension and thus the magnetic reversal losses to decrease.
The application of the silicate coating to the article made of silicon-containing steel can be carried out in a conventional manner Wise done, for example by the fact that on the object particles of an oxide, a Hydroxide or a carbonate of an alkaline earth metal are applied and the object with the applied particles heated to at least 85O ° C, preferably to 10CO to 135O ° C in Is subjected to nitrogen gas, hydrogen gas or some other inert or reducing atmosphere. When using an oxide, an oxidizing agent, silicon, becomes silicon dioxide at the same time can oxidize, used, usually water, which is bound as a hydroxide to the alkaline earth metal is. Magnesium is especially preferred as the alkaline earth metal, but calcium, barium and strontium are also preferred applicable. The thickness of the protective covering made of silicate extends up to a monomolecular coating to a thickness of about 10 μm. For particularly cheap Results will be a thickness of 0.1 to 5 μm and preferably 0.1 to 1 μπι recommended. Before applying the phosphate, the excess of alkaline earth oxide brushed off the object.
The application of the phosphate layer is achieved in that the phosphate solution is applied to the provided with the silicate coating object, after which the article to a temperature of at least 55O 0 C, advantageously to 550 to 1100'C, and preferably at 700 to 85O 0 C for a period is heated for at least 0.5 min, preferably for a time of 0.5 to 10 min. Longer times are not harmful. The heating can take place in an oxidizing, reducing or inert atmosphere, ie the atmosphere is not critical. Air can be used to advantage.
The phosphate solution can be mixed with insoluble fillers, such as highly dispersed silica, whose particle size is normally below 16 μm (millimicrons), or mica flour, whose particle size is usually less than 10 µm (microns). By adding; of fillers increases the resistivity of the protective covering increased.
Der Gehalt an Phosphationen, komplexen Metallionen, Ammoniumionen und gelöstem Ammoniak beträgt 5 bis 50 Gewichtsprozent und vorzugsweise 20 bis 40 Gewichtsprozent des Gesamtgewichts der genannten Bestandteile und des Lösungsmittels, welches ganz oder zum überwiegenden Teil aus WasserThe content of phosphate ions, complex metal ions, ammonium ions and dissolved ammonia is 5 to 50 weight percent and preferably 20 to 40 weight percent of the total weight of the mentioned constituents and the solvent, which is wholly or predominantly made up of water
besteht. The solution can also contain other negative ions that cannot be included in the above-mentioned content, such as sulfate, nitrate and acetate ions, which are derived from corresponding metal salts for supplying the metal ions to the solution. The content of applied starting materials, which the complex metal ions and phosphate ions give in the solution, is adjusted so that the phosphate remains in solution and is later effectively anchored to the Siükatbelag normally in such a way that the phosphate is essentially present as monophosphate ion. The addition of ammonia or another compound which yields NH 3 , such as ammonium hydroxide, is adapted in such a way that complex formation of the metal ions is obtained and that the same is avoided. For this an additive corresponding to a pH value of at least 9 is required.
If filler is added to the phosphate solution, the filler content is expedient up to 5 to 50 percent by weight and preferably up to 10 to 30 percent by weight of the total weight of fillers, phosphate ions, complex metal ions, ammonium ions, dissolved ammonia and solvents.
The thickness of the phosphate layer is 0.1 to 20 μm, for particularly favorable results 0.5 to 5 μm and preferably 1 to 3 μm.
Die Erfindung wird in den Beispielen erläutert. Die Dicke der Phosphatschicht beträgt jeweils 2 μιη.The invention is illustrated in the examples. The thickness of the phosphate layer is 2 μm in each case.
