Description
Sapphire balls have a high optical quality and are therefore preferred.
The housing has an inner shoulder lOß, which is arranged at a distance from the part 12. The shoulder 1OS hold a disk 14 in the middle Element 16 is attached, which can be a light source 8 or a light receiving element. A second Element 18, which is either light emitting or light receiving, respectively, is inside the tapered end 10 'of the housing 10 in the vicinity of the upper surface of the part 12. In the case of the in FIG. 1 The embodiment shown is the second element 18 on the surface of the part 12 by means of a transparent Adhesive 19 attached. The second element 18 can instead be in a transparent mounting disk mounted similar to the disk 14 and mounted a short distance above the upper surface of the part 12 be. The outer areas of the part 12 are covered by an optically opaque mask 23, what else is described. The walls of the cavity formed by the disk 14 and the part 10 'can with a suitable light-absorbing coating 20 be provided to avoid undesirable light reflections in the Keep interior of the cavity to a minimum. Electrical lines 22, soft to the second Element 18 lead, and electrical lines 24 which lead to the first element 16, are to a cable 25 summarized, which goes through a passage 28 which is in a cover 26 of the housing 10 is used. The cable 25 can be connected to the rest of the electrical circuitry of the probe, which is not shown.
The translucent, spherical part 12 has a concentrating effect on the light beam, is robust, cheap and readily available. In this embodiment, elements 16 and 18 are preferred axially aligned with the diameter of the part 12.
In a preferred embodiment, part 12 is 0.317 cm in diameter. As element 18 a phototransistor is used; the element 16 is a light emitting diode placed at a distance of positioned about 3.8 cm from element 18. The diode 16 has an integrally formed therewith Focusing lens on.
In the described arrangement, a light bundle 30, which emanates from the light source with the element 16 and the lens 16/4, strikes a part of the upper surface of the part 12, which is delimited by the mask 23 and the element 18. This light beam is refracted by part 12. In this way, a light spot S 1 with a diameter of approximately 0.030 cm is created next to the bottom surface of the part 12. At a distance of 0.025 cm from the lower surface of the part 12, a light spot 52 with a diameter of about 0.0076 cm is obtained. In this way, a highly concentrated light beam is generated.
When a recording medium is brought next to the part 12, it is reflected transmitted and refracted light back to the part 12, the intensity of the reflectance of the Recording medium depends. A part of the reflected light bundle strikes the part 12 under a nearly perpendicular angle of incidence and becomes that with little refraction directly through the center of part 12 guided light receiving element 18 attached to the upper surface thereof.
This arrangement enables the recording medium to be tilted by an angle of up to 50 ° compared to the common axis of the part 12 and the elements 16 and 18 with only a slight reduction in Reading performance. The mask 23 causes a masking of those rays of the light bundle 30, soft on the outer areas of the spherical part 12 get. Dimming these external rays causes a greater concentration of the beam.
In order to explain the differences in sensitivity between the described embodiment of the invention and a known reading device with optical fibers, reference is made below to FIGS. 2 and 3 are referred to. F i g. 2 shows a diagram in which A denotes the unamplified output signal of a light probe, which has a central fiber optic part with a diameter of 0.013 cm, which feeds the reflected light to a photocell detector, a plurality of light conductors (fibers) surrounding the central bundle, to illuminate the paper from the light source. The probe was passed over a recording medium which contained alternating 0.013 cm wide black lines and 0.051 cm wide white lines or spaces between the black lines, a relatively constant speed being maintained in the movement of the tip of the probe and with the probe next to the recording medium and was guided perpendicular to this. Curve B (FIG. 2) shows an amplified signal which corresponds to the output signal of curve A. It can be seen that with respect to line 32, the positive parts of the signal corresponding to the white spaces are 10 units wide while the negative parts corresponding to the black bars are 6 units wide. The ratio between the width of the positive signal area and the width of the negative signal area therefore does not correspond to the actual ratio of 4: 1 of the code. If, therefore, a code is used in which the relative bar width contains the information, the reader is shown in accordance with FIG. 2 as not sufficiently sensitive. Larger code characters would therefore have to be used so that an adaptation to the sensitivity is achieved. However, this leads to a reduction in the amount of information that can be contained in a given record carrier.
Das Verhältnis der Signalbreiten für den positiven Signalteil und den negativen Signalteil entspricht somit besser dem 4 :1-Verhältnis des Kodes als die Signale, die mit der Faseroptik erhalten werden.3 shows the unamplified and the amplified signal by curves A and B, which is obtained with the reading device according to the invention when an identical recording medium with 0.013 cm wide black stripes and 0.051 cm wide white stripes is scanned. Curve A shows that the information about the line width is recorded better. Curve B, through which a reference line 34 passes, shows that the positive areas of the signal corresponding to the white spaces occupy approximately 11 units while the negative areas of the signal corresponding to the black bars occupy approximately 4 units. The ratio of the signal widths for the positive signal part and the negative signal part thus corresponds better to the 4: 1 ratio of the code than the signals obtained with the fiber optics.
Das Element 18 kann jedoch auch die Lichtquelle, beispielsweise eine lichtemittierende Diode sein, welche Lichtin the embodiment described, the element 16 is as a light source and the element 18 as light-receiving element has been used. The element 18 can, however, also be the light source, for example be a light emitting diode, which light
In dem lichtdurchlässigen Klebstoff 19 kann ein optisches Filter angeordnet sein.passes through the center of the spherical portion 12; the element 16 then represents the phototransistor, a photodiode, a photocell or a similar device that receives the light, that is reflected from the record carrier and from the outer regions of the spherical part 12 is broken. Such an arrangement has the advantage over that described above that it is less sensitive to unwanted stray light because the light-receiving element is small Point is focused. In the case of the reader in which the element 16 is a light source and the element 18 is a light source is a light-receiving element, one can also be relatively insensitive to scattered radiation Achieve effect when the light-emitting element has an output signal with a relatively small bandwidth generated, such as is the case with a light emitting diode, or when the top surface of the spherical part 12 is provided with an optical filter with a low bandwidth. In the translucent Adhesive 19 can be arranged an optical filter.
In FIGS. 4 to 6 there is a further embodiment of the reader according to the invention shown. A pen-like housing 110 defines a cylindrical one Opening 110/4 at the lower end, in which a spherical part 112 is inserted, which is made of translucent Material consists. An inner shoulder HOB of the housing 110 carries a disk-like part 114, which has a light emitting part 116 in its center. Multiple light receiving elements 118Λ 1185,118C are arranged distributed around the upper surface of the part 112 and on this by means of a translucent Adhesive attached. The three elements 118 are preferably arranged at angles of 120 ° to one another. Output lines 122 / 4,122ß and 122C lead from away from elements 118Λ, 118B and 118C. These lines are combined with other lines 124 to form one Cable combined, the lines 124 coming from the element 116. The cable is used to Connection of the individual lines to the electrical circuit, not shown.
A second inner shoulder HOC is provided in the cavity of the housing 110. She wears a disc-shaped, opaque mask 126 which has an opening 126/4 in its center. The light emitting Element 116 and the opening 126/4 are preferably aligned with the diameter of the spherical part 112. The mask 126 prevents light from the element 116 on the light-receiving elements 118/4, 118ß and 118C falls. The light emitting element 116 is through the opening 126Λ on a small central one Point directed on the spherical part 112. It will hence the superior imaging and convergence properties of the center of the sphere on the upper surface used to form an intense point of light next to the lower surface of the spherical part 112. Reflections from the record carrier are then refracted to the outer areas of the spherical part 112 passed, where they by means of the light-receiving elements 118Λ, 118ß and 118C to be established.
