Process for cleaning exhaust gases from liquid fuel engines and Facility for carrying out the procedure.
The invention relates to a method for cleaning the exhaust gases from with liquid fuel operated engines and a device for performing the method using a known exhaust gas turbocharger.
It is known that two methods are used for exhaust gas purification can be. These two processes, catalytic oxidation and afterburning can be used alternatively or together. In the process of catalytic oxidation, the exhaust gas to be cleaned is fed to a catalyst which consists of a ceramic honeycomb body and has been activated and in which the flows past the hot exhaust gas a catalysis takes place on the catalytic surface, in which preferably nitrogen oxides are reduced. In the process the afterburning, additional oxygen is supplied to the exhaust gas, so that a combustion process can be initiated at which burn the combustible parts of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. It has been shown that only through the joint application optimal cleaning of the exhaust gas is carried out using the two methods can be. In the post-combustion process it is known that the supply of additional combustion air as close as possible to the exhaust valves takes place so that the high temperature inherent in the exhaust gas is used to initiate combustion. With catalytic cleaning devices it is essential that good thermal insulation is built in to prevent oxidation of the combustion gases at high temperatures Temperatures that prevail in the device can take place. For this reason, the catalytic converters are also as close as possible to the exhaust valves attached, i.e. all equipment must be in close proximity to the engine.

There are already different exemplary embodiments for both methods known. In the case of afterburners, however, they have the disadvantage that they have an additional combustion chamber with one as well need additional air pump for the air necessary for combustion, so that the system is quite expensive. For those who have become famous Process for catalytic oxidation has the disadvantage that the known catalysts are installed at one point in the exhaust gas line at which the pulsations of the exhaust gas are still too high, so that the catalytic converter is inadmissibly heavily stressed. The well-known The method also has the disadvantage that a loss of power is inevitable due to the known devices for exhaust gas purification, see above that the efficiency of the engine experiences a further deterioration and the specific fuel consumption becomes higher.
The invention is therefore based on the object of showing a method after which the uncleaned and thus toxic exhaust gases flowing out of the outlet valve are cleaned, the combustible Share of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons through post-combustion and, moreover, the nitrogen oxides are reduced by a catalytically active device.
Es wurde festgestellt, daß die Turbine wie eine Drossel-Furthermore, a device suitable for this purpose is to be shown, with the aim of cleaning the exhaust gases and increasing the performance of the engine by charging by means of a turbocharger. It has been shown, surprisingly, that turbochargers are suitable as means for exhaust gas purification. Dissolved Starting from the known processes, both the catalytic oxidation and the afterburning \ xi rd this object according to the invention in that the exhaust gases of the engine are accumulated first, before the turbine of the turbocharger to Emperaturerhöhung and initiate combustion, and that they then, after Durchströmenofer turbine be subjected to a further combustion process, which is initiated by a branched off after the compressor quantity of air, which is added to the exhaust gas. It has been shown that a very high cleaning effect can already be achieved by the fiction, contemporary method of post-combustion. It was found that the turbine works like a throttle

Um zu einer noch besseren Wärmeisolierung des Ab«asturb';laders zu kommen, wird gemäß einer zweckmäßigen weiteren Ausl ^slaltung der Erfindung vorgeschlagen, daß zwischen der Metallausklei-73 0!) 14 - 4 -body acts and it is known that the stronger the throttle, the more the build-up takes place to a greater extent, with each build-up being associated with an increase in temperature and thus an improvement in the reaction during the Afterburning. By this fiction, contemporary damming process can be achieved that the temperature at the turbine inlet is higher than the temperature at the exhaust valve of the engine. The traffic jam can be regulated by selecting the appropriate turbine. The one required for each combustion The amount of air is branched off and according to the fiction according to the method from the compressor belonging to the exhaust gas turbocharger then fed to the exhaust gas so that the combustion can take place with the required excess of oxygen. It has proven to be useful that according to a further embodiment of the fiction according to the method, the combustion air supplied for the combustion process after flowing through the turbine in a separate flow channel of the Exhaust gas turbocharger is preheated. With this further development according to the invention of the process it is achieved that the level of temperature obtained by the damming process can be maintained. To one more To achieve better cleaning of the exhaust gas, the exhaust gas of the engine is catalytically effective according to a further embodiment of the method designed turbine for the purpose of reducing nitrogen oxides supplied. It It has been shown that both the afterburning and the catalytic reduction of the impurities can take place in the exhaust gas turbocharger of the exhaust gas. The fiction, contemporary device is for Implementation of the method, characterized in that in a known exhaust gas turbocharger on the inner walls of the flow channel for the exhaust gas a metallic layer with low thermal conductivity is arranged. This metallic layer can be formed by a sheet metal that is used in the manufacture of the turbine housing from spheroidal graphite iron is poured in. With this measure it is achieved that the turbine housing before a Overheating can be protected. In addition, this metal layer serves to protect the turbine housing, which is made of nodular cast iron mechanical stresses. In order to achieve an even better thermal insulation of the Ab «asturb '; charger, according to an expedient further Ausl ^ slaltung the invention proposed that between the metal lining 73 0!) 14 - 4 -

Since it liked to eat in the operation of the fiction Device can occur that in spite of everything there is still too high a thermal load on the turbocharger housing, according to a continuation the invention provides that air inlet bores on the housing of the exhaust gas turbocharger be attached. These air inlet bores are used to circulate cooling air taken from the charger in a very specific dosage to feed the turbocharger, so that a veil of cooling air is created. About these Arrangement in addition, a further improvement can be achieved that fiction according to the metal layer at least partially with air passage openings is provided. A special effect of the combustion process after the turbine is due to the preheating of the branched off from the compressor Air reached. This is heated in a separate flow channel that is wrapped around the actual gas channel. It has been shown that all means for catalytic cleaning can also be arranged in the turbocharger device according to the invention. So is in the radial annulus between the turbine wheel inlet and the flow channel a nozzle ring with blades, consisting of a porous, ceramic mass activated for catalysis, arranged. With this facility will achieves that the exhaust gas while passing through the exhaust gas turbocharger housing is catalytically cleaned. This is also served according to a continuation that in the radial annular space between the turbine wheel inlet and flow channel built into a nozzle ring made of stainless steel which is a galvanized metal layer, preferably copper oxide layer having. In this way, according to the invention, the nozzle ring required for the task of catalytic cleaning is appropriately configured. However, it appears very essential that a monolith is arranged as a catalyst in the closed channel at the entrance to the turbine housing is. At this point of entry or, as in a further expedient embodiment, at the point of exit, one can enter 73 09 14 - 5 -

Install a sufficiently large catalyst, so that the residence time of the exhaust gas appears sufficient when flowing through the catalyst. Finally, it can also lead to a further improvement of the method according to the invention the system can be improved in that a turbine wheel made of stainless steel with on he galvanized metal layer, preferably copper layer in the Exhaust gas turbocharger is arranged. It is known that these metal layers contribute significantly to catalysis.
An exemplary embodiment of the device according to the invention will be described in more detail with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2. 1 shows a circuit diagram for the method according to the invention, FIG. 2 shows a sectional view of an exhaust gas turbocharger according to the invention. In FIG. 1, 11 M "denotes the piston engine, 11 A" denotes the pipes carrying the exhaust gas; 11 L "the air-carrying lines. The exhaust gases from the engine 11 M" are accumulated in a particularly expediently designed exhaust manifold and in the turbine. A combustion of the CO and CH compounds occurs as a result of an ejection reaction caused by the build-up of the exhaust gas and a resulting increase in pressure and temperature. In the turbine according to FIG. 2, which consists of a housing, nozzle ring (3) and centripedal or centrifugal turbine (4), the nitrogen oxides are burned by a catalytic effect as the exhaust gases continue to flow through. Another post-combustion then takes place in the outlet of the turbine housing. These burns are initiated in the turbine outlet (5) by an air flow (6) branched off from the compressor (8) and heated in the turbine housing (7). Most of the compressed air is used to charge the engine; for this purpose, a control is arranged in the air filter in front of the engine. The regulation can be used for the afterburning and for the air consumption of the engine. After the compressor, the compressed air flows through a charge air cooler to the carburetor for mixture preparation or, if an injection pump is used, directly into the engine. Fig. 2 shows the sectional view of the turbine of an exemplary exhaust gas turbocharger, which can be used particularly advantageously for the fiction, contemporary method for exhaust gas detoxification. The turbine shown differs from the known in that the invention

Außerdem ist der Düsenring und das zentripedale Turbinenrad, beides hochwertige Nickälegierungen, mit einer aufgalvanisierten Metall- oder Kupferschicht überzogen.measured an active at the inlet (1) and outlet (2) of the turbine housing active granules or active monolith is incorporated. In addition, the nozzle ring and the centripetal turbine wheel are both high quality Nickel alloys with an electroplated metal or copper layer overdrawn.
The interaction between the copper and the nickel content of the wheel material results in a surface that behaves similarly to that of the known nickel-copper catalysts. It is also possible to design the nozzle ring as a monolith. The air required for afterburning after the turbine is introduced through the bores into the space after the turbine after it has warmed up in the flow channel. A very good mixing of the heated air flowing into the turbine space with the gas flowing through the turbine wheel takes place through the rotating blade of the turbine wheel. In a closed channel with connections provided, which are wound around the gas channel and have very large contact surfaces, the air flowing through and branched off by the compressor absorbs heat in countercurrent. The hot exhaust gases flowing through the gas duct, which come from the engine and expand in the turbine, serve as a heat source. A special afterburning chamber is not required, "because on the one hand afterburning takes place before or in the turbine, on the other hand also after the turbine. This makes the system cheaper than the usual systems The cooling water of the engine can be used as the cooling medium if it is suitably charged, or an air flow generated by the cooling fan of the engine, or the amount of cooling air required for cooling can be added in another way. The air cooled down in the intercooler has a greater density and is intended thus a higher output of the engine as well as a reduction of the process temperature in the combustion chamber of the engine. the ringerung Ver the process temperature causes a considerable reduction of the NO levels.
