Description
'The invention relates to a method for producing an RF coaxial cable with constant characteristic impedance with an inner and an outer conductor and with slotted, disc-shaped spacers which the spacers are applied in a plug-on device with different mutual spacing will. '
A coaxial cable apparently made by such a process is disclosed in GB-PS 5 70 136 described. With this cable, the spacing between the spacers along the length of the cable is not constant, but vary according to a given law, which makes the cable one over one very large frequency range should receive constant transmission characteristics.
In contrast, the invention deals with the problem that arises from the fact that in the manufacture of a coaxial cable, very narrow tolerance limits must be adhered to with regard to the deviations of the characteristic impedance from the setpoint or nominal value. In general, the fluctuations between the minimum and the maximum value of the characteristic impedance Zo of a coaxial cable are limited to about 1%. For a coaxial cable with a nominal characteristic impedance of 75 ohms, for example, the design tolerance is ± 0.5 ohms. Although this represents the absolute limits for the wave resistance of the cable, nowadays even tighter tolerances are often necessary in order to achieve an optimal wave resistance adjustment between joined cables and thus to keep the reflections small, which can otherwise be very disruptive. For a cable with a nominal wave impedance of 75 ohms, an actual tolerance of about ± 0.2 ohms is therefore preferable, while staying completely within the design tolerance of 75 ± 0.5 ohms.
With the known manufacturing processes, one of which is described, for example, in DT-OS 16 40 095 it is not possible to reverberate the wave resistance within such narrow tolerance limits. Usually the control of the wave resistance has been done empirically according to the so-called "trial-and-error method", i.e. a piece of cable was produced and immediately checked for its wave impedance eeprüft corrections were made through changes to the Dimensions of either the inner conductor or the outer conductor of the next piece of cable to be manufactured. This process is both time consuming and very costly because of the manufacture of the next Cable piece must be waited until the necessary adjustments, such as replacement the die for the fine pulling of the inner conductor have been made. Besides, so far were common further readjustments are necessary for several successive pieces of cable until the value of the Wave resistance was within the prescribed tolerance limits.
Building on this prior art, the invention is based on the object of a manufacturing method to create the type described above, in which it is possible to easily adjust the wave resistance to influence already during the production so that even the tightest tolerance limits are observed can be.
To solve this problem, the invention provides that the wave resistance is already completed Cable sections is measured and that in the event of a deviation from the nominal value, the distance between the continue to be applied to the conductor spacers so enlarged or reduced that it is too a compensation of the deviation comes.
The invention is based on the knowledge that the wave resistance of a disk-shaped spacer provided coaxial cable can be influenced by the distance between adjacent spacers on the inner conductor changed. Based on this knowledge allows the method according to the invention, the characteristic impedance of a coaxial cable during the Constantly control the manufacture of the cable and by changing the distance between the spacers to hold on the inner conductor at the desired value.
A particular advantage of this method is that the wave resistance can be adapted to the setpoint can be carried out continuously without impairing or even interrupting the evenly running manufacturing process.
Advantageous embodiments of the method according to the invention are in the characterizing parts the subclaims 2 and 3 laid down.

Spacer spacing can be changed with such a device by changing the feed rate of the conductor increases or decreases while adjusting the speed at which the Spacers are applied to the ladder, keeps constant. Another option is to use the Frequency or speed of the spacer feed to increase or decrease while the feed rate of the conductor remains constant. Although both possibilities are feasible, in the present case the latter is preferred in order to achieve constant Maintain production speeds.

The slotted spacers 16 can be obtained from a suitable supply device, for example as described in the above-mentioned US Pat. No. 3,634,606. The application wheels rotate at the same peripheral speed V and are synchronized so that they always place the spacers 16 alternately on the conductor 12.
The device is designed for a nominal speed at which the peripheral speed of Aufbringräder equal to the feed speed of the conductor 12 is. This and the diameter of the wheels determine the number of retaining teeth 20 and 20 'that are used to apply spacers to conductor 12 are necessary in the nominal distance. To implement the present invention, such a device be provided with a control drive, with which the speed of the application wheels to change the spacer distance on the conductor 12 can vary.
Such an arrangement is a simple means of adjusting the wave impedance of one with spacers built-up coaxial cable, avoiding excessive downtime of the cable manufacturing machine as they were previously required for changing or replacing parts. A first A piece of cable can be manufactured and examined for its wave resistance. In the meantime the production of another cable section can begin. As soon as you use the first piece of cable has found that a change in the wave impedance is necessary, during the manufacture of the a corresponding change in the spacer spacing can be brought about in the second cable section, by simply adjusting the peripheral speed of the application wheels.
