Abstract
Description
Process for reducing the proportion of very small particles in small particles Polyolefins The present invention relates to a method for reducing the Proportion of particles with a diameter of less than 200 μm in small-sized particles polyolefins with a diameter of less than 3.5 mm.
In a number of technically and economically interesting processes for In the manufacture of polyolefins, these fall into small-scale form as primary products on, whereby in one and the same primary product the polyolefin particles in wider Grain size distribution are present. This is especially true in the manufacture of polyolefins by suspension polymerization, for example according to the method used in the Austrian Patent specification 222 349 is described or by other comparable methods.
In general it can be said that in the case of the proceedings in question for the production of small polyolefins these primarily as particles with a Diameters of less than 3.5 mm are incurred, which is a not inconsiderable proportion of particles whose diameter is less than 200 / µm. This so-called "Leg grain" is undesirable because it has disadvantages. As such Examples include the easy dusting, the relatively poor flowability (difficulties when moving into screw presses!) as well as the inclusion of air, which does not only the bulk density of the small polyolefins is reduced, but also theirs Further processing is adversely affected, for example by the introduction of air bubbles in extrudates.
There has therefore been no lack of attempts to develop processes which make it possible to use the proportion of particles a diameter less than 200 / µm in small-sized particles with a diameter of less than 3.5 mm reduce existing polyolefins.
Thermal-mechanical processes have become known in which the small-particle polyolefins with vigorous agitation over a certain period of time be kept at temperatures at which a superficial melting of the Polyolefin particles take place and these agglomerate with one another (e.g. French Patent 1,426,438). Such procedures are, in principle, easy to perform but in practice not necessarily to the desired result. One has therefore endeavors to overcome the difficulties that arise through special technical measures overcome. For example, the agitators for the treatment vessels have been specially designed, so that the goods heated under friction can be quickly cooled down again (e.g. German Auslegeschrift 1 454 743) or you have the floors to achieve the same goal and walls of the treatment vessels designed in a special way (e.g. German Interpretation document 1 054 073). Attempts have also been made to determine the outcome of the proceedings can be improved by working in several stages, for example with an agglomeration drum and a downstream Eühltrommel (e.g. German Auslegeschrift 1 118 959). It has also been suggested that the thermal treatment in a kneader (internal mixer) to be carried out, the throughput being increased by adding material that has already been agglomerated should be increased, while another additive in the form of a vaporizable liquid to ensure that the thermal load on the material remains as low as possible (e.g. German Offenlegungsschrift 1 920 728). These known thermo-mechanical Processes, also in their special forms, lead to process products, which still leave a lot to be desired and / or are very complex in themselves.
The object of the present invention was to provide a method of the type defined at the outset not to show that with the aforementioned disadvantages or is burdened to a significantly lesser extent.
It has been found that this problem can be achieved if one the small-particle polyolefins (A) under certain thermal conditions (B) by means of subjecting a specific device (C) to a specific mechanical action.
The present invention accordingly relates to a method to reduce the proportion of particles with a diameter below 200 μm in small polyolefins consisting of particles with a diameter of less than 3.5 mm. The inventive method is characterized in that A) first the small-sized polyolefin to be treated brings to a 0 temperature that is 15 to 25 0 below the temperature at which the melting range of the polyolefin begins, then introduces the small-particle polyolefin into an agglomeration device, there by mechanical friction to a temperature that is 2 to 13, preferably 5 to 1000 below the temperature at which the melting range of the polyolefin starts and leaves at this temperature for 2 to 10 minutes (with a relatively high Working temperature is assigned a relatively short working time, and vice versa), then discharges the small-particle polyolefin from the agglomeration device and at a temperature which is at least 300 ° C. below the temperature at which The melting range of the polyolefin begins through a grinding-sieving process of particles exempted with a diameter greater than 3.5 mm; with the proviso, B) that the agglomeration device a device is used which consists essentially of a cylindrical Vessel (1) with a diameter of 75 to 125, preferably 90 to 110 cm and one Height from 125 to 200 cm, a striking arm (2), which is in the bottom of the cylindrical vessel is arranged, can be set in rotation by a drive pin (3) and is provided with two blow bars (4), each having a cross-sectional area from 100 to 250 cm2, furthermore from 5 to 12 anvils (5), which are inserted into the cylindrical Recessed vessel and opposite the blow bars at a distance are arranged from 0.3 to 3 cm; as well as with the further proviso, C) that the Rotation speed of the drive pin (3) selects that the speed at the periphery of the blow bars (4) is 50 to 100 m / sec.
As has been shown, the method according to the invention is special well suited for the treatment of polyethylenes of relatively high density, i.e. one density from 0.935 to 0.965 g / cm3.
A scheme of how the process can expediently be carried out Figure 2 shows: Relevant in a preheater (I), e.g. a heatable mixer Usually, the small-sized polyolefin to be treated is first heated to a temperature brought, which is 15 to 250C below the temperature at which the melting range of the polyolefin begins. The material preheated in this way then enters the actual Agglomeration device (II). This device (cf. FIG. 1) per se is known and commercially available; However, their intended use has so far only been Processing of plastic waste in the sense of tearing it up. The device as such is therefore not an object of the present invention and needs - as it is well known - not to be explained in more detail. That treated in the agglomeration device (II) Good is discharged from this and passed through a cooling zone (III), e.g. a Cooling belt of the usual type, where it is cooled to a temperature which is at least 300C below the temperature at which the melting range of the polyolefin begins. The cooled mass, which is generally partly foam-like and partly coarse-powdery Contains proportions that form individual particles even with low mechanical stress disintegrate (e.g. friable in the hand), is then passed through a grinding-sieving process (IV) freed from particles with a diameter greater than 3.5 mm.
Commercially available devices are also suitable for this, in particular No high demands need to be made of the mill, as those in the property Coarse parts easily disintegrate into individual particles.
To carry out the method according to the invention is also yet to say that it can be operated both continuously and discontinuously can, with the process control particularly easy in discontinuous operation master is.
Schließlich ist noch zu erwähnen, daß die Bestimmung der Temperatur, bei der der Schmelzbereich des jeweils betroffenen Polyolefins beginnt, zweckmäßigerweise unter einem Heiztischmikroskop mit polarisiertem Licht bestimmt werden kann (z.B.Finally it should be mentioned that the determination of the temperature, at which the melting range of the polyolefin concerned begins, expediently can be determined under a hot stage microscope with polarized light (e.g.
It is assumed that one small-sized polyethylene consisting of particles less than 3.5 mm in diameter, which contains 18 ffi of particles with a diameter below 200 µm.
The other characteristics of the polyolefin are: Melt index according to ASUM.D 1238-65 T (at 19000 and 21.6 kp) = 7.1 g / 10 min; Density according to DIN 53 479 = 0.948 g / cm3; Melting range (under hot stage microscope with polarized light) = 130 to 13200; Flowability (GDR test specification TGL 160-221) = 9.2 g / sec.
Furthermore, the procedure is such that you first of all the to be treated small-sized polyolefin by means of a heated mixing drum to a temperature (1100C), which is 200C below the temperature at which the melting range of the polyolefin begins, then the small-particle polyolefin into an agglomeration device introduces, brings there by mechanical friction to a temperature (12100) that 90C below the temperature at which the melting range of the polyolefin begins and left at this temperature for 5 minutes. Thereupon the item treated in this way becomes discharged from the agglomeration device and - after passing through a cooling belt - at a temperature (8000) which is 500C below the temperature at which the The melting range of the polyolefin begins through a grinding and sieving process (crushing mill, Shaking sieve) freed from particles with a diameter of more than 7.5 mm.
As part of these measures, according to the invention, as an agglomeration device a device (see FIG. 1) is used, which consists essentially of one cylindrical vessel (1) with a diameter of about 100 cm and a height of about 150 cm, a beater arm (2), which is placed in the bottom of the cylindrical vessel can be set in rotation by a drive pin (3) and with two Blow bars (4) is provided, each with a cross-sectional area of 180 cm2 have, furthermore, from 8 anvils (5), which are let into the cylindrical vessel and are arranged opposite the blow bars at a distance of 1 cm.
During the operation of the agglomerator, the rotation speed becomes of the drive pin (3) selected so that the speed at the periphery of the Blow bars (4) is about 75 m / sec.
The result of the process is a finely divided polyethylene a relatively narrow grain size distribution, a proportion of particles with a diameter below 200 / µm of 3% and a flowability of 11.1 g / sec.
