Abstract

The accurate, simply constructed and adjusted moving coil instrument basic mechanism uses a soft iron core and a permanent ring magnet. The design gives a linear accurate characteristic and is an improvement on previous mechanisms. A central vertical axle (14) carries a hollow cylindrical soft iron core (16, 17), its associated moving coil, and an instrument indicating pointer (12), the whole arrangement is spring loaded by a helical hair spring (13). Outside this, a permanent cylindrical ring magnet (15), a clamp ring (22) and a casing (26) are mounted. The setting up of the mechanism to give maximum positive deflection at the correct input voltage, is briefly described.
