Description
The invention relates to the production of cumene by the transalkylation of diisopropylbenzene and benzene.
Cumene (isopropylbenzene) is an important chemical intermediate that is produced on an industrial scale by the alkylation of benzene with propylene. Diisopropylbenzenes are obtained as by-products during the alkylation. It has already been proposed to convert these diisopropylbenzenes into further cumene by transalkylation with benzene. Certain zeolite catalysts have been proposed for this transalkylation in U.S. Patent 3,385,906. The method of this patent is carried out at a temperature in the range of 130 to 250 ° C, temperatures above 25O ° C are excluded in this known proposal, because as it is, undesired impurities are formed.
It has now been found that temperatures are advantageously above 25O 0 C, and that in this case the formation can be largely eliminated vo impurities.
The invention accordingly provides a process for the preparation of cumene by transalkylation of diisopropyl

Die Reaktionsteilnehmer liegen unter den genannten Bedingungen höchstwahr-May be the Umlakylierungsreaktion is, increased temperature, increased benzene / favored by increased pressure diisopropylbenzene molar ratio and lower Kreislaufgasrnengen, although the latter effect as much w a function of prolonged residence time i e a reduction in the amount of hydrogen ", the upper limits are for these variables partly from practical and economic considerations and partly from avoiding harsh conditions that would trigger undesirable side reactions such as “dealkylation”. Under the conditions mentioned, the reaction participants are most likely

Die optimalen Bedingungen für jedes gegebene Ausgangsniaterial lassen sich leicht experimentell ermitteln., apparently in the vapor phase, and this vapor phase operation is also preferred. The optimal conditions for any given starting material can easily be determined determine experimentally.
A bound by theory, it is not intended, however, it is believed that the improvement enables the use of temperatures above 25O 0 C, the operation is one hydrogenation metal on the zeolite in the presence of hydrogen and in the presence. In a process in which aromatic hydrocarbons are used as the output material, the presence of hydrogen and a hydrogenating metal would at first sight be regarded as undesirable because of the risk of hydrogenation of the aromatics.
However, it has surprisingly been found that under the given reaction conditions there is little hydrogenation the aromatics takes place, and that the extent of other side reactions is also small. There were selectivities reached for the cumene formation of more than 90 mol ~ $.
Patent 3,130,007 and Zeolite L, which is described in U.S. Patent 3,130,006 will. In their normal form, the zeolites have a rigid network or network of aluminum, silicon and oxygen atoms along with metal cations that are exchangeable. In freshly made synthetic Zeolites or natural zeolites are usually alkali metal cations. These alkali metal cations can against other metal cations, e.g. metal cations of group II or against hydrogen or Aromonium cations, and the one used here Expression "zeolite with alkali metal cations" (or decationized zeolite) preferably refers to a zcdith that has been subjected to treatment 109851/1840
° /> and, if possible, at least 80 percent "-fö the alkali metal content has been removed. Potassium is a more difficult alkali metal cation to remove than sodium,
The normally present alkali metal cations can "for example, by metal cations of Group II, for example, o calcium or magnesium cations, or by ions of metals of rare earths to be replaced, however, a dekationisierter zeolite is preferably used. Dekationierte zeolites are sometimes referred to as Wasserstoffzeolithe" means, since it is assumed that the ion equilibrium is maintained by hydrogen ions. The decationization example, can be made at 250 to 600 0 C to abortion of the ammonia by replacing the alkali metal cations with ammonium ions and then heating.
After the decationization, the zeolite is washed expedient heated to excess ammonium exchange solution to remove, and at 250 to 600 0 C.
The term "hydrogenating metal" used here denotes a group VIII metal (for example an iron group metal, in particular cobalt or winding, or a platinum group metal, in particular platinum or palladium) or a metal of group Ib (in particular silver). The hydrogenating metal may be in an amount of 0.1 to 5 wt. -Fo, in particular 0.5 to 2 wt .- ^ of the zeolite be present and is preferably applied by ion exchange, whereby the alkali metal cation defect is at least partially offset 0 Preferably, the Hydrogenating metal incorporated into the zeolite with a lack of alkali metal cations, for example after decationization, but the addition can also take place before the heating, which is carried out to drive off the ammonia.

As already mentioned, the transalkylation process "is particularly advantageous in combination with a process for the production of cumene by alkylation of benzene with propylene = any known alkylation process are suitable. For example, phosphoric acid, aluminum halides, silicon dioxide-aluminum oxide, zeolites, a clay of the type are the montmorillonite or bentonite or a crosslinked with divinylbenzene resin of styrene and sulfonic acid used "depending on the catalyst used, the alkylation 65 may be up to 45O 0 C, but is usually worked below 300 0 C. the pressure may be between atmospheric pressure and 1400 kN / m (above atmospheric pressure) <> Normally, the benzene is used in excess over the propylene, with the propylene being almost completely consumed and a product being formed which is predominantly composed of benzene, cumene and polyalkylaromatic compounds boiling above cumene, in particular diisopropylbenzene, consists. The product is preferably separated into benzene, cumene and polyalkyl aromatics by distillation, and the polyalkyl aromatics are combined with at least some of the benzene (to which further benzene can optionally be added) to form the feedstock for the transalkylation.
A product from the alkylation of benzene with propylene was distilled, with a heavy fraction boiling above 160 ° C. and containing the polyalkylaromatics being obtained. The composition of this fraction and of mixtures of this fraction with benzene (determined by gas-liquid chromatography) is given in Table 1 below.

The mixtures were prepared on the basis of the total heavy fraction containing the polyalkylbenzenes, however It can be noted that the diisopropylbenzene content of this heavy fraction was only 51.7% by weight. As a result were the compositions of the mixtures, calculated as the ratio of benzene to reactive diisopropylbenzenes, about half of the stated values «For example, the mixture of benzene and heavier had Fraction in a molar ratio of 8: 1 a benzene / diisopropylbenzene ratio of about 4: 1, and the 1: 1 Gernisch even had a benzene deficiency.

Die in der Tabelle angegebenen Werte für die Gesamtbildung von Cumol, den Umsatz von Diisopropylenbenzol und die Selektivität zu Cumol wurden in Mol aus der Produktnalyse (in Gew.-^i) berechnet. Die Selektivität zu Cumol wurde wie folgt berechnet;The values given in the table for the total formation of cumene, the conversion of diisopropylenebenzene and the selectivity to cumene were given in moles from the product analysis (in wt .- ^ i) calculated. The selectivity to cumene was calculated as follows;
Gebildetes Cumol in Hol χ 100Cumene formed in Hol χ 100
Umgesetztes Diisopropylbenzol in Hol χ 2Reacted diisopropylbenzene in Hol χ 2
Experiments 1 to 6, in which * the molar ratio of Benzene to heavy fraction was 8: 1 (corresponding to a benzene / diisopropylbenzene ratio of 4: 1) »show that the conversion and the selectivity can be improved by increasing the temperature and the pressure, wherein Yields of $ 96 to $ 97 on sales of $ 60 to $ 75 be achieved.
In experiments 8 to 12, in which the molar ratio of benzene to heavy fraction was 1: 1 and 2: 1 (corresponding to Benzene / diisopropylbenzene molar ratios of 0.5 * 1 and 1: 1), the results are less good. she become better with increasing molar ratio of benzene to heavier fraction and increasing pressure and decreasing Amount of hydrogen gas supplied.
In experiments 14 to 17, in which the molar ratio of benzene to heavy fraction was 4: 1 (corresponding to a benzene / diisopropylbenzene molar ratio of 2: 1) becomes heavier as the molar ratio of benzene increases Fraction, increasing temperature and increasing pressure a further improvement compared to experiments 8 to 12 scored.
The paraffin, haphthene and olefin content confirms this relatively low levels of lifting reactions, particularly the lack of hydrogenation despite the presence of hydrogen and the carbon content of the catalyst.
