Description
The present invention relates to a magnetic bearing for supporting a rotating element, in particular a rotor of a vacuum pump. The invention also relates to a vacuum pump with such a magnetic bearing and a method for producing such a magnetic bearing.
Known vacuum pumps have a housing with an inlet and an outlet. A motor-driven rotor is arranged in the housing, the rotor having a plurality of rotor elements which interact with stator elements in order to convey a gaseous medium from the inlet to the outlet. For turbo-molecular vacuum pumps in particular, the speed of the rotor is very high and can be up to several thousand revolutions per minute. This places high demands on the bearings with which the rotor is supported in the housing.
It is known to use magnetic bearings to support the rotating rotor of the vacuum pump against the housing. The magnetic bearing has a first non-rotating magnetic element which is connected to the housing, and a second rotating magnetic element which is connected to the rotor. The first magnetic element and the second magnetic element are arranged in close proximity to each other while repelling each other to maintain a non-contact bearing. This has the advantage that no oil or fat is required, which could contaminate the vacuum through outgassing. For cost reasons, usually only the bearing at the high vacuum end towards the inlet of the vacuum pump is designed as a magnetic bearing. The second bearing on the high pressure side towards the outlet of the vacuum pump can be designed as a roller bearing, since contamination of the vacuum by grease or oil is negligible in this area.
When the vacuum pump is operated, the temperature of the rotor can rise. Usually, magnetic material that could be used for the magnetic bearing is subject to a decrease in magnetic strength as the temperature rises. Therefore, known magnetic bearings commonly use SmCo magnets, resulting in permanent magnets that are relatively stable against a rise in temperature in order to maintain radial rigidity even at higher temperatures.
Usually, the first bearing and the second bearing are arranged in such a way that, due to a small offset of the magnetic bearing from the neutral position, there is a preload on the roller bearing, so that an axial force is exerted on the roller bearing / second bearing on the high pressure side in order to achieve a radial rigidity of the Maintain rotor. However, during operation, the temperature of the rotor can rise to such an extent that the rotor is elongated due to the thermal expansion. This increases the preload on the roller bearing, which results in rapid wear of the roller bearing. Therefore, the life of the rolling bearing is reduced.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a magnetic bearing which is capable of compensating for thermal expansion. It is also an object of the invention to provide a vacuum pump which is highly durable.
The above-mentioned problems are solved by the magnetic bearing according to claims 1 and 9 and by the vacuum pump according to
The magnetic bearing according to the present invention for supporting a rotating element, in particular a rotor of a vacuum pump, has a non-rotating first magnetic element and a second magnetic element which rotates relative to the first magnetic element. In particular, the non-rotating first magnetic element is connected to a static element of a rotating device such as a housing of a vacuum pump, while the second magnetic element is connected to the rotating element, in particular a rotor of a vacuum pump. At this time, the first magnetic element and the second magnetic element are arranged in close proximity to each other and in mutual repulsion to maintain a non-contact bearing that is also smooth. Therefore, no grease or oil is necessary and the magnetic bearing can be used in high vacuum environments without the risk of contaminating the vacuum through outgassing. The first magnetic element is preferably arranged relative to the second magnetic element in such a way that an axial force is exerted on the rotating element. The first magnetic element can therefore be arranged offset relative to the second magnetic element from a neutral position. This exerted axial force can cause a preload in a second bearing, which also supports the rotating element. The first magnetic element and / or the second magnetic element is a permanent magnet made of a magnetic material, the magnetic material having a relative magnetic permeability μ r (T 1 ) at a first temperature T 1 and a relative magnetic permeability μ r (T 2 ) at a second temperature T2 has what µ r (T 1 ) <µ r (T 2 ) fulfills, the first temperature being lower than the second temperature. The relative magnetic permeability is defined as µ r = B / (H · µ 0 ), where B is the magnetic flux density, H is the magnetic field strength, and µ 0 is the vacuum permeability. Therefore, the relative magnetic permeability of the magnetic material used as the first magnetic element and / or as the second magnetic element increases, while the magnetic field strength H decreases with an increase in temperature. By decreasing the magnetic field strength H, an increase in an additional axial force due to the temperature increase from T 1 to T 2 can be compensated, with compensation here and below being understood as full compensation, partial compensation or even overcompensation. This additional axial force can be induced due to the thermal expansion of the rotating element, which is compensated for due to a decrease in the magnetic strength of at least one of the magnetic elements. Therefore, the preload on a secondary bearing supporting the rotating element, which results from the thermal expansion of the rotor, is reduced by the magnetic bearing according to the invention, and the preload on the second magnetic bearing can be maintained within the permissible limits to prevent slipping or fatigue of the second bearing to avoid.
In particular, the first magnetic element and the second magnetic element consist of the same magnetic material. Alternatively, the first magnetic element and the second magnetic element may be constructed of different magnetic material to tailor the effect of reducing the relative magnetic permeability according to the needs of the rotating device such as the vacuum pump.
In particular, the difference between μ r (T 1 ) and μ r (T2) or, analogously, the difference between the magnetic field strength at the first temperature T 1 and at the second temperature T 2 according to the temperature difference between the rotating element and the non-rotating element during of operation is determined or set in such a way that when the temperature increases from T 1 to T 2, the increase in the additional axial force due to the temperature increase from T 1 to T 2 is compensated. At the start of operation, the rotating element and the non-rotating element have the same temperature, which is or can be almost the same as the ambient temperature. Therefore, when the operation is started, the temperature of the rotating element can rise, which leads to thermal expansion of the rotating element. The temperature of the non-rotating element, e.g. the housing of the rotating device, is usually lower due to cooling, either by ambient air or by active cooling. Therefore, the temperature difference leads to a different thermal expansion, the thermal expansion of the non-rotating element being smaller than that of the rotating element. This results in an increase in the offset of the rotating element relative to the neutral position, which increases the axial force exerted and also the preload on the secondary bearing. The magnetic material properties µ r (T 1 ) and µ r (T 2 ) compensate for this difference in thermal expansion by cutting the difference between µ r (T 1 ) and µ r (T2). Thus, a specific magnetic material showing a weakening of the magnetic strength is used for the bearing in order to tailor the thermal properties of the bearing and utilize these thermal properties to compensate for the thermal expansion of the rotor. The weakening of the magnetic strength with increasing temperature was usually regarded as disadvantageous, and therefore known magnetic bearings use magnetic materials which show only as little weakening as possible. In the present invention, this effect is used to compensate for another thermal effect, ie the thermal expansion.
In particular, the difference between μ r (T 1 ) and μ r (T 2 ) is determined or adjusted according to the difference in thermal expansion between the rotating element and the open element. Due to the difference in thermal expansion, a preload is exerted on the bearings, which can lead to rapid wear, fatigue or slipping of the rolling bearings used. Therefore, the difference between µ r (T 1 ) and µ r (T 2 ) is tailored according to the thermal expansion difference between the rotating element and the non-rotating element, in order to cut the thermal expansion difference between the rotating element and the non-rotating element so that the decrease the magnetic strength compensates for the additional axial force due to thermal expansion.
In particular, the relative magnetic permeability fulfills the condition c · μ r (T 1 ) μ r (T 2 ), where c is between 1.2 and 2 and preferably between 1.26 and 1.6. Most preferably, c is greater than 1.26 in order to achieve a most suitable reduction in magnetic strength due to elevated temperature. As a result, the factor c can depend on the specific rotating device.
Insbesondere entspricht T1 der Umgebungstemperatur von etwa 20 °C, und T2 entspricht der maximalen Temperatur des umlaufenden Elements von etwa 90 °C.In particular, T 1 corresponds to the ambient temperature of approximately 20 ° C., and T 2 corresponds to the maximum temperature of the rotating element of approximately 90 ° C.
In particular, the magnetic material consists of neodymium (Nd). Usually Nd is not used in magnetic bearings because of the large thermal increase in magnetic strength. On the other hand, magnets made of Nd usually show the highest magnetic strength at 20 ° C, even higher than for samarium-cobalt magnets. Therefore, in the present invention, Nd magnets offer the further advantage that the necessary offset can be smaller at ambient temperatures in order to achieve a sufficient preload on the roller bearing (s) of the rotating element. Therefore, in the event of thermal expansion, the offset to the neutral position at higher temperatures during operation is smaller than, for example, with samarium-cobalt magnets. However, in order to provide sufficient radial rigidity of the rotating element, for example the rotor of the vacuum pump, the Nd-containing magnetic material should be tailored at operating temperatures to the radial rigidity provided by samarium-cobalt magnets even at operating temperature. Therefore, even with a weakened magnetic strength of Nd magnets at higher temperatures, the preload on the secondary bearing is reduced, as described above, while at the same time the radial rigidity is maintained.
The present invention further relates to a vacuum pump, in particular a turbo-molecular vacuum pump, with a stator and a rotor, the rotor being rotated by a motor and comprising a plurality of rotor elements in order to convey a gaseous medium from an inlet to an outlet. The rotor is supported by at least two bearings, at least one bearing being a magnetic bearing, as described above. The at least one magnetic bearing exerts an axial force on the rotor as a preload on the second bearing, an increase in the relative magnetic permeability or a decrease in the magnetic field strength with the temperature change T 1 to T 2 setting the preload and preferably keeping it constant. Therefore, an increase in the preload on the second bearing due to the rise in temperature is reduced.
In particular, at least one bearing is a roller bearing. The magnetic bearing is arranged on the high vacuum side of the vacuum pump, i.e. towards the inlet of the vacuum pump, while the roller bearing is arranged on the low vacuum side, i.e. towards the outlet of the vacuum pump into an area of higher pressure. Therefore, the frictionless / non-contact magnetic bearing can be in a vacuum, where no grease or oil can contaminate the vacuum.
In particular, the difference between μ r (T 1 ) and μ r (T 2 ) or the field strength H at temperatures T 1 and T 2 is determined or set according to the temperature difference between rotor and stator during operation.
In particular, the difference between μ r (T 1 ) and μ r (T 2 ) or the field strength H at temperatures T 1 and T 2 is determined or set according to the difference in thermal expansion between rotor and stator during operation. Consequently, if there is a difference between the thermal expansion between the rotor and the stator, the magnetic material of the magnetic bearing is tailored so that the magnetic strength of the magnetic bearing is reduced at operating temperature to compensate for the preload or the axial force towards the second bearing, which can be constructed as a roller bearing. Therefore, wear or slippage of the rolling bearing is reduced, and a permanent vacuum pump can be achieved.
Due to the design and the utilization of the effect that the magnetic strength of some magnetic materials decreases at higher temperatures, the preload between the magnetic bearing and a roller bearing of a vacuum pump due to thermal expansion can be reduced or even compensated. The roller bearing can therefore always be operated under optimal preload conditions, which reduces wear on the bearing and increases the service life.
- • Bereitstellen eines nichtumlaufenden ersten Magnetelements und eines zweiten Magnetelements, das relativ zum ersten Magnetelement umläuft, wobei das erste Magnetelement und/oder das zweite Magnetelement einen aus einem magnetischen Material hergestellten Permanentmagneten aufweist;
- • Anordnen des ersten Magnetelements und des zweiten Magnetelements mit gegenseitiger Abstoßung zum Aufrechterhalten eines kontaktlosen Lagers;
- • Bestimmen einer ersten Temperatur T1 als bevorzugte Temperatur des umlaufenden Elements und/oder des nicht umlaufenden Elements bei Beginn des Betriebs;
- • Providing a non-rotating first magnetic element and a second magnetic element which rotates relative to the first magnetic element, wherein the first magnetic element and / or the second magnetic element has a permanent magnet made of a magnetic material;
- • arranging the first magnetic element and the second magnetic element with mutual repulsion to maintain a non-contact bearing;
- • determining a first temperature T 1 as the preferred temperature of the rotating element and / or the non-rotating element at the start of operation;
- • determining a second temperature T 2 as the preferred temperature of the rotating element during operation; and
- • Providing the magnetic material of the first magnetic element and / or the second magnetic element with a relative magnetic permeability µ r (T 1 ) at T 1 and a relative magnetic permeability µ r (T 2 ) at T 2 , which is µ r (T 1 ) <μ r (T 2 ) at T 1 <T 2 is met in order to compensate for an increase in the preload on a second bearing supporting the rotating element when the temperature increases from T 1 to T 2 .
Therefore, the magnetic material is selected according to temperatures T 1 and T 2 in order to maintain an appropriate preload on a second bearing. Therefore, the magnetic bearing according to the present invention is able to compensate for thermal expansion of the rotor by adapting the relative magnetic permeability. In other words, the magnetic field strength at different temperatures is tailored in such a way that the decrease in the magnetic field strength with temperature compensates for the axial force induced by the thermal expansion.
In particular, the magnetic bearing according to the above method further has one or more features of the magnetic bearings described above and the embodiments described below or in the appended claims.
The present invention will be further explained with reference to the embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings.

130 µm, while with N32H an offset of 85 µm is sufficient to achieve 12.5 N axial preload at ambient temperature. If the maximum offset increase due to thermal expansion is 100 µm in both cases, the axial offset position at higher temperatures (“hot”) for SmCo5 is around 230 µm, while for N32H magnets the axial offset at higher temperatures is around 185 µm. Therefore, according to the diagram after
