Abstract

Absorbent compsn. consists of a granular material impregnated with I2 and has a higher absorptive power for H2S than the familiar absorbent comspns. The pred. granular material is active C.

Description

Absorbent compound for breathing apparatus filters to protect against low-temperature hydrogen They are absorption masses for respiratory protection filters to protect against hydrogen sulphides known, which consist of granular, porous materials such. B. pumice stone, diatomite, activated carbon, Silica gel, or the like, and soaked with lead nitrate or moist with hygroscopic Copper chloride powder are coated. It is also known to use such absorption masses which consist of a porous carrier substance hot with saturated in boiling point Soak saline solutions. For the production of such masses it is also known the salts in finely grained form with hardening binders such as cement or Plaster of paris, to be mixed in the presence of water in the amount necessary for setting and before the hardening in different ways, e.g. B. to grains or the like. To deform. (DRP 664 042) To make a hydrogen sulfide absorbent Mass it is further known, a copper sulphate gypsum mass, which after before described method is prepared, ground to the finest possible and with addition of caustic soda with the help of sieves to form a granular product. (DRP 706 517) There are still absorption masses for hydrogen sulfide of the above called type known in which basic heavy metal compounds are used that with ammonia and volatile bases with the formation of complex or double salts react. (DRP 710 617) There are also absorption masses of the initially described Kind of known that contain zinc, cadmium or copper salts or oxides. (DRP 733 563) There are also known filter media against mercury vapors, the p activated carbon as a carrier for the reagents that chemically bind the mercury vapors. the Activated carbon is impregnated with iodine, chlorine or the like, among other things. These masses are only used to hold back mercury vapors. (DBP 1 075 953) The invention is based on the task of adding a filter material that absorbs hydrogen sulfide create whose absorption capacity for hydrogen sulfide is greater than normal absorption masses described is. The invention relates to one Consisting of absorption compound for respiratory protection filters for protection against hydrogen sulphides made of a granular material impregnated with an absorbent. The invention consists in that the material is impregnated with iodine. Surprisingly, has it has been shown that an absorption mass, which consists of a granular carrier material, iodine as an active substance with an excellent absorption effect for hydrogen sulphides owns, consists and so for filling respiratory protection filters in the use of hydrogen sulfide Ambient air is suitable. The retention capacity of respiratory filters that use the mass according to the invention are filled, is significantly higher than the retention capacity the well-known respiratory protection filter with the absorption masses described at the beginning.

Exemplary embodiment: For the production of an absorption mass according to the invention 100 kg of activated carbon with a solution of 7.5 kg of potassium iodide and 5.5 kg of iodine soaked in 110 l of water. After drying, the mass is used to fill respiratory protection filters suitable of all kinds.

The absorption capacity of a respiratory protection filter filled with such a mass for hydrogen sulphides, for example when passing through hydrogen sulphide Air is about 1.7 times larger than the capacity of a conventional one Absorption mass of filled respiratory protection filter of the same size.
