Description
The invention relates to an ignition device for a discharge lamp operated with a ballast, in which periodically the ignition capacitor to ignite the discharge lamp is charged and over a controlled switch discharges through the primary winding of a pulse transformer that discharges the voltage pulses stepped up to the ignition voltage required for the discharge lamps.
Gas discharge lamps are often used for lighting systems, on the one hand because of their high Luminous efficiency and, on the other hand, because you get colored by using a certain filling gas Can produce light for example for advertising purposes. In particular, it is used for high-power lamps a metal vapor filling, e.g. B. Mercury vapor filling used.
For metal vapor discharge lamps of this type, also for metal halogen lamps, high-pressure sodium lamps as well as ultra-high pressure lamps are very high for the first ionization of the discharge path Voltage pulses required, for the generation of which special devices must be provided.
Dieser764 111.1), in which the high-voltage ignition pulse is generated by a capacitor, which is discharged via a threshold switch through the primary winding of a pulse transformer. The pulse transformer transforms the capacitor discharge voltage to the ignition voltage the discharge lamp high. The capacitor is charged here via the secondary winding of the Impnlstransfarmatars and a charging circuit consisting of a diode and a resistor. The resistor is used to limit the charging current for the capacitor or to limit the discharge time of the capacitor. Between the primary and secondary windings of the pulse transformer there is - shaded in series with both - a voltage-dependent resistor. This
Ein derartiges Zündt>erät benötigt verhältnismäßig viel Platz.ίο means that the high-voltage pulses - with a low ohmic resistance - can act on the discharge lamp. Once the discharge lamp has ignited, the resistance of the lamp path drops, the capacitor is no longer charged up to the discharge voltage and no longer generates voltage pulses. Now only the lamp voltage acts on the voltage-dependent resistor, to which it opposes a very high resistance. Both resistors, the charge limiting resistor and the voltage-dependent resistor, however, consume power. In the event that the discharge lamp is defective, ie does not ignite, the ignition device generates voltage pulses over a very long period of time; it is a very long Tj of time in operation. As a result, both resistors heat up very strongly. The consequence of this is that the ignition device must be made correspondingly large and expensive in order to avoid damage due to excessive heating. Such an ignition device requires a relatively large amount of space.
The object of the invention is to create an ignition device for discharge lamps in which a strong heating is avoided despite the small structural design, and with which powerful ignition pulses, which do not have a voltage-dependent resistor reducing the useful power on the Lamp are transferred.
The object is achieved by an ignition device of the type mentioned at the outset, in which one per se known voltage multiplier circuit with at least two capacitors of different capacities, the one charged to the higher voltage Capacitor has a lower capacity than the other, and at least two diodes for charging of the ignition capacitor, and that the capacitor charged to the higher voltage of the voltage multiplier circuit is the ignition capacitor.
A thyristor is advantageously used as the controlled switch, the control circuit of which is two as a voltage divider used ohmic resistors, a trigger diode acting on the control electrode of the thyristor and has an ignition capacitor connected in parallel to this. From the two resistors one is designed as a temperature-dependent resistor; he is high ohmic at higher temperatures and low resistance at low temperatures.
Der Vorteil einer derartigen Schaltung besteht imThe advantage of such a circuit is

An ignition device, which has two connection terminals both for power consumption and for pulse output - via the same terminals - is connected to the lamp current in parallel with the discharge lamp 1. Inside the igniter there is a capacitor 2 in line with the secondary winding 3 of a pulse transformer. The line into which the capacitor 2 is connected is clamped between two diodes 4 and 5. The circuit with secondary winding 3 and capacitor! is on one lamp terminal B of the igniter. A capacitor 6 is located in the line of the second lamp terminal A. A connecting line to the primary coil 7, which continues to the diodes 4 and 5, is laid between the lamp terminal A and the capacitor 6. The diode 5 is again connected to the capacitor 6.
Parallel to the connection points capacitor6 / diode5 and primary winding 7 diode 4 is a TnyristorS with control circuit. This consists of two resistors 9 and 10 acting as a voltage divider consisting of a capacitor 11 and one Trigger diode 12. The resistor 9 is on the anode, the resistor 10 on the cathode of the thyristor 8 switched, and the capacitor 11 is parallel to the resistor 10. The trigger diode 12 is connected between the resistor 9 and the capacitor II to the control electrode of the thyristor 8.
A choke 13 for limiting the lamp current is connected into the lamp circuit.
The function of the ignition device is described below. During the first half-cycle, the current flows from lamp terminal A, through the primary winding? Via the diode 4 switched in the forward direction, through the capacitor 2 and the secondary winding 3 into the lamp circuit (lamp terminal B). The capacitor 2 is charged to the peak value of the mains voltage. During the second half cycle, the current flows from the lamp terminal R to the capacitor 2, the diode S. and the. Capacitor 6 to lamp terminal A in the lamp circuit. The arrangement, consisting of the capacitor 2, the diodes 4 and 5, acts as a voltage comparator circuit; the capacitor 2 serves as a voltage source and, with the mains voltage at the lamp terminal β, represents a series connection of two voltage sources. This gives the capacitor 6 a voltage which is twice the mains voltage. As is known, this voltage doubler circuit has a very high internal resistance, so that the capacitor 6 can be used as an ignition capacitor to generate the voltage pulses for igniting the discharge lamps and a charging current limiting resistor for the capacitor 6 can be omitted. With this circuit structure, a voltage-dependent resistor, the task of which is to let the voltage pulses through and later - after the discharge lamp has been ignited - to oppose the mains voltage with a high resistance - can be omitted. The capacitor 6 discharges through the triggered thyristor to the primary winding 7. The ignition timing of the thyristor 8 is determined by the elements of the control circuit. The voltage pulse of the capacitor discharge is stepped up to the ignition voltage for the discharge lamp i via the secondary winding 3 and fed into the lamp circuit via the lamp terminals A, B. When the discharge lamp 1 is lit, no ignition pulses are generated because the voltage of the capacitor 11 remains below the ignition voltage of the trigger diode 12, due to the reduced voltage:> level at the burning discharge lamp 1.The time can be set by appropriate design of the switching elements of the control circuit of the thyristor 8 , the position and also the number of voltage pulses can be set. If the discharge lamp 1 is defective, the resistance of the lamp circuit remains high. This means that the ignition device emits ignition pulses for practically any length of time. Although the device does not heat up, the self-heating of the resistor 9 can be used to break off the pulse train. For this purpose, the resistor 9 is advantageously designed as a function of the temperature. It has a resistance-temperature characteristic which suddenly rises sharply when a certain temperature is exceeded, ie the resistor 9 suddenly becomes high-resistance. As a result, no more current can flow into the control circuit of the thyristor 8, the thyristor 8 is no longer ignited after a certain time has been exceeded. It ceasing further Zündspanr: ungsimpulse for the discharge lamp.
