Description
The invention relates to a method for optical multiplication with the aid of multiple holograms.
The object of the invention is to regularly create one- or two-dimensional arrangements of one another same phase holograms (multiple phase holograms, hereinafter referred to as multiple holograms), which are used as optical components can serve to multiply images. The number and spatial location of the multiplied images should be independent of the original image and only through the parameters of the multiple hologram be given.
In numerous optical arrangements one has to do with the task of producing optical wave fields multiply. Two borderline cases are particularly interesting: the multiplication of Fourier spectra optical structures in optical multiplex filter systems and the multiplication of ordinary two-dimensional Photos. An example of the latter case is the multiplication of circuit patterns in the manufacture of integrated circuits. In the current technology, this task becomes solved with the help of repeating cameras, d. H. very complicated, complex and expensive machines.
Zur direkten optischen Vervielfachung sind bereits verschiedene holographische Verfahren vorgeschlaoen worden (Sun Lu, Proc. IEEE 56 [1968] 116; G. Groh, Appl. Optics 7 [1968] 1643; S. Lowenthal, A. Werts, .M. Rembault, C. R. Acad. Sei., Paris, B 267 [1968] 120). Various holographic methods have already been proposed for direct optical multiplication (Sun Lu, Proc. IEEE 56 [1968] 116; G. Groh, Appl. Optics 7 [1968] 1643; S. Lowenthal, A. Werts, .M. Rembault, CR Acad. Sci., Paris, B 267 [1968] 120). Older methods, e.g. B. with the help of a fly's eye lens, have significant disadvantages compared to these holographic methods and therefore need not be discussed here.
The holographic processes are mainly limited by the following two factors:
The efficiency in the holographic reconstruction is relatively small, so that the the vast majority of the available light output is lost.
In the method with an inclined reference wave, the multiplied images are offset on one side completely next to the optical axis of the beam path. This is for various uses quite impractical. In addition, the aberrations, which increase sharply with the size of this dislocation, are for each extreme multiplied images especially large.
The proposed multiplication with the aid of multiple holograms eliminates both disadvantages, and the invention consists in that a regular arrangement of identical phase holograms is used is whose single structure z. B. from symmetrical polygons, such as squares and rectangles exists and is so constructed that a predetermined distribution of intensities among the multiplied Images.

Without a multiple hologram, an ordinary imaging of the pattern M would take place through lens L in its image M b . Now bring the multiple hologram V into the beam path and illuminate! if it is sufficiently coherent (e.g. with a laser), in addition to the central image M b, further images M n are created, the intensities of which can be specified within wide limits relative to M b, depending on the requirements.
This intensity distribution among the images M b and M v is determined by the structure of the individual hologram in the multiple hologram. This structure can in particular be chosen in such a way that the intensity is uniformly distributed within a central block around the optical axis and the predominant part of the light power used is present in these images of equal intensity among one another.

There are different ways of making single holograms to produce or to determine their structure. In principle it is possible with the known holographic Recording process to produce suitable individual holograms, from which then, for. B. by Impression processes that can be built up with multiple holograms.
B. A. W. Lohmann und D. P. Paris, Appl. Opt. 6 [1967] 1739; L. B. Lesern. P. M. Hirsch, und J. A. Jordan. IBM J. Res. Develop. Another interesting way is to make the multiple hologram synthetically. In addition the structure of the individual hologram must be known, d. H. generally on an electronic Computing system must first be calculated. Various methods have already been used for this calculation proved suitable. In principle, these processes are based on known processes (e.g. A. W. Lohmann and D. P. Paris, Appl. Opt. 6 [1967] 1739; L. B. readers. P. M. Hirsch, and J. A. Jordan. IBM J. Res. Develop. 13 [1969] 150), but differ significantly from this in that not sufficient, but rather particularly optimal phase structures are determined.
The calculation and implementation of the individual holograms and the synthetic multiple holograms is particularly simple when the hologram structure is binary. 2 shows the structure of a particularly simple binary individual hologram with phase assignments q 1 and ψ 2. The structure is symmetrical and the same in both spatial directions.
Fig. 1) relativ zur Intensität von M6 einzustellen. Der Anteil dieser Summe der gesamten Intensität, d. h. der Wirkungsgrad des Vielfachhologramms liegt dabei in den besten Fällen um 70 %>.In the special case of the binary phase hologram, a particularly suitable, relatively simple calculation method can be used with great advantage, which starts directly from the binary structure according to FIG. This structure is completely determined by the two quantities a t and a 2 (relative to a) (with a fixed phase difference?, - ^ 2 ). In general, one has η ordered quantities a v a, ... a ", which can be used to adjust the intensities of η multiplied images M 1 , (see FIG. 1) relative to the intensity of M 6. In general, this gets relative intensities numerous solutions for a v a 2 ... a ", which differ by the sum of the intensities in all images used (M 6 and M v in Fig. 1) for a setting. The proportion of this sum of the total intensity, ie the efficiency of the multiple hologram, is around 70% in the best cases.
Im Fall eines symmetrischen Musters wie in F i g. 2 bekommt man (2η -f I)2 Bilder M6 und Mx,. In the case of a symmetrical pattern as in FIG. 2 we get (2η -f I) 2 images M 6 and M x,.
.. asz. B. die folgenden Werte:Structures of the individual hologram which provide a complete square or rectangular matrix of multiplied images of the same intensity are of particular practical interest. For a square matrix of 11 × 11 images of the same intensity with a total intensity of approx. 45 0 O, the above-mentioned calculation method for the a v a 2 results. .. a s z. B. the following values:
O1 = 0,072; a2 = 0,352; a3 = 0,748;
a4 = 0,786; a. = 0,938; a = 1. O 1 = 0.072; a 2 = 0.352; a 3 = 0.748;
a 4 = 0.786; a. = 0.938; a = 1.
Polyeder verwendbar. The absolute difference between the two phase occupancies n φ 1 and <p 2 (see FIG. 2) of the binary phase hologram is π. The phase assignments are squares and rectangles. However, other symmetrical polygons or polyhedra can also be used.
If necessary, rotationally symmetrical structures can also come into question.
Die Repetierkamera wird hierThe division according to FIG. 2 is implemented in a corresponding black-and-white pattern, with the areas with the occupancy φ χ black, those with φ., White (or vice versa). This swan: white pattern can then be multiplied with a repeating camera, so that a multiple pattern is created from which FIG. 3 shows a section. The repeating camera is here
With the finished multiple hologram You can then multiply all the originals as often as you want.
With the help of the known photoresist technology, the multiple pattern can be converted into the corresponding phase pattern. For this purpose, a glass plate of sufficient optical quality is first coated with photoresist and exposed in contact with the multiple pattern. Then, depending on the type of photoresist, either the exposed or the unexposed areas are detached and removed using a suitable solvent (development of the photoresist). The resulting phase pattern can be used directly for optical multiplication z. B. according to FIG. 1 can be used if the photoresist layer has an optical thickness corresponding to a phase delay of 71 . This can be achieved without great difficulty. However, after the development of the photoresist, the areas free of the resist can also be vaporized with a dielectric layer corresponding to a phase delay of η and the areas covered with the photoresist can then be freed from the resist and dielectric.
The mode of operation of the multiple hologram can be explained in such a way that initially because of the network or lattice effect of the multiple pattern, certain points of the image plane are characterized by that in them the amplitudes of the wave fields reconstructed by the individual holograms are constructive superimpose and add (corresponding to the locations of the diffraction orders of an ordinary grating). The distribution of the light intensity on these marked points is thus determined by the individual hologram determined and controlled. When using suitable phase holograms it can be achieved that the central, distinguished points in and immediately around the optical axis in this Control of the intensity can be included (in-line reconstruction).
Such a light point distribution arises if in FIG. 1 uses a point light source instead of the pattern M. will. If one illuminates sufficiently coherently with a light distribution (object), such as z. B. in Fig. 1 with the distribution given by M, multiplied images arise at the points of light of the object, the intensities of which are set by the structure of the individual hologram.
Eine besonders interessante Möglichkeit besteht darin, das Vielfachhologramm direkt auf eine Linsenoberfläche, bevorzugt die Austrittsfläche der LinseA particularly interesting option is to apply the multiple hologram directly to a lens surface, preferably the exit surface of the lens
z. B. in F i g. 1 aufzubringen. B. in Fig. 1 to apply. This avoids disturbances in the beam path caused by the hologram carrier caused.
In addition, one can of course in all cases have a certain amount of absorption in the hologram structure allow to z. B. to improve the image quality.
