Description
While untreated sewage sludge, in particular activated sludge from activated sludge systems or from trickling filters, sludge from dephosphating or denitration stages of sewage systems or the like, can only be dewatered to a very limited extent due to their colloidal proportions and, even with a great deal of effort for mechanical dewatering, only up to solids concentrations of up to about 10 up to 20 °, ο can be dewatered, the heat treatment can considerably increase the filterability, with subsequent dewatering reports up to 60 to 70 0 Zo solids in part

In addition to the ongoing energy and operating costs, despite the exothermic reaction during treatment with some sludges and despite partially recovering the heat in countercurrent heat exchangers are, especially the investment costs for the

In the heat treatment of "sewer sludge", ie primary sludge, it is known (German patent specification 275 566) to work with sewage sludge that is as concentrated as possible by settling the sludge or to additionally thicken the sludge statically by stacking it when treating mixed sludge from primary and excess sludge (German magazine Kommunalwirtschaft, 1969, p. 375). However, the solids concentrations that can be achieved in this way are only found in the case of digested sludge and in the case of primary sludge from mechanical cleaning in the range of approximately 8 to 12 ° 0, which corresponds to a noticeable reduction in the amount of water to be heated. In the case of activated sludge, on the other hand, the solids contents achievable by thickening are so low (about 2 to 3 ° 0) that additional dewatering measures before the thermal conditioning of pure activated sludge have hitherto been refrained from, precisely in the interests of economic process management.
The invention is based on the object of reducing the costs incurred for the heat treatment, even for those sewage sludge which, based on the amount of solids contained in them, consists predominantly of activated sludge, without significantly impairing the advantage achieved by the heat treatment. The methods proposed according to the invention to achieve this object are based on the same principle of solution, which consists in the fact that only part of the total mixture of sludge water and sludge solids that is obtained for dewatering is heat-treated.
Diese TeilentwässerungIn solving this problem, a first alternative of the invention is based on a method for dewatering sewage sludge containing activated sludge, in which the sludge after a partial enrichment of solids, but before its final mechanical dewatering is subjected to a heat treatment to improve its filterability. This method is characterized in that sludge consisting predominantly of fresh activated sludge is partially dewatered mechanically in a centrifuge before the heat treatment. This partial drainage
durch Zentrifugieren führt zu erheblich gesteigerten FeststoffgthaJten, vorzugsweise 5 bis 15°.ö, insbesondere 6 bis 12 0Zo, wodurch Anlagekapazität und Energieverbrauch für die thermische Konditionierung erheblich verringert werden können; überraschenderweise ist die Verlegung dieses Teils der maschinellen Entwässerung vor die Stufe der therrnschen Konditionierung mit relativ geringem Aufwand durchführbar und führt nicht zu den nach den bisherigen Erfahrungen mit Belebtschlamm zu erwartenden Komplikationen.by centrifugation leads to significantly increased FeststoffgthaJten, preferably 5 to 15 ° .ö can be significantly reduced in particular 6 to 12 0 Zo, thereby plant capacity and energy consumption for the thermal conditioning; Surprisingly, the relocation of this part of the mechanical dewatering before the stage of the thermal conditioning can be carried out with relatively little effort and does not lead to the complications to be expected based on previous experience with activated sludge.
According to a second alternative, the stated object is achieved in such a way that. starting from a procedure for the dewatering of sewage sludge, in which the sludge before its final mechanical Dehydration is subjected to a heat treatment to improve its filterability, only a partial volume of the total sewage sludge to be dewatered is heat-treated and prior to final mechanical dewatering with the included partial volume of sewage sludge is united. It has surprisingly been found that the heat-treated. in its FeststoiT concentration almost unchanged sludge content also affects the drainability of the non-heat-treated, in its solids concentration, likewise unchanged sludge content, has an improving effect and can have the effect of a filter aid. Although it is known to be dehydrated Sludge that first rotted out and then thermally conditioned before dewatering have a fibrous, peat-litter-like structure can, and it is known, on the other hand, fibrous, dry Substances such as B. peat waste, to be used as a filter aid in sludge drainage. In the present In this case, however, it is not about the addition of an anhydrous filter aid, but about the surprising one The fact that a Sludge also to improve the filterability of a sludge that has been added to it and that has not been heat-treated able.
It has also proven to be advantageous if the temperature of the heat-treated sludge and / or the mixing ratio is chosen so that the final drainage the combined amount of sewage sludge has a temperature of at least 70 ° C. That way will due to the wear and tear of the inherent heat of the sludge portion coming from the heat treatment better filterability achieved.
When activated sludge and primary sludge are dewatered from mechanically treated wastewater at the same time are to be, it is sufficient in this case that only the activated sludge is heat-treated. Of the Activated sludge loses its particularly difficult filtration properties and can then be used as Filter aids are added to the primary sludge, which is already less difficult to dewater. This procedure has the further advantage that the associated with the heat treatment high BOD loading of the filtrate after the heat treatment can be significantly reduced. The advantages of both alternative solutions can be combined if the partial volume to be heat treated the sewage sludge is partially dewatered mechanically before the heat treatment.
In this mode of operation or in the first of the two alternatives of the process, the sewage sludge a mechanically and / or chemically acting filter aid in front of the Teüentwässerurig can be added in order to achieve higher solids concentrations even with partial dewatering.
According to the two alternatives, of the sewage sludge consisting of sludge water and sludge solids, either a portion of the sewage sludge reduced by ίο a proportion of the total sludge water or a portion of the sewage sludge remaining in its original concentration is heat-treated, both alternatives can be combined.
-5 The drawing shows schematically the process sequence for various variants of the process according to the invention, which are explained below.
According to A b b. 1 sewage sludge to be dewatered is supplied via lines 1 and 2 ao. Of the through the line 1 supplied sludge is with a centrifuge 3 to a solids content of 5 to 15 ° o partially dehydrated, the separated water being discharged through the centrifugal line 4. Of the Partially dewatered sewage sludge is together with the not dewatered coming from the line 2 Sewage sludge from a heat treatment device 5, e.g. B. an oven, and fed there for a sufficiently long time on z. B. 200 to 210 C heated. The heat-treated sewage sludge are then dewatered in the filter press 6, thanks to the heat treatment a very extensive drainage can be achieved. The filtrate is discharged through the filtrate line 7, the dewatered sludge as filter cake by means of transport 8 for further treatment, e.g. B. Composting or incineration.
In the alternative of the method described above, part of the existing mixture 4.0 of sludge water and sludge solids excluded from the heat treatment, namely the by the centrifugate line 4 removed part of the sludge water. In the alternative according to Fig. 2, it takes part of the unchanged existing sewage sludge (sludge water and sludge solids) does not take part in the heat treatment.
The sewage sludge fed in through line 11 is fed either directly without partial dewatering or after partial dewatering in a centrifuge 13 shown in dashed lines to the heat treatment device 15 and only then mixed in a mixer 19 with the non-heat-treated part of the sewage sludge fed through line 12. Depending on the outlet temperature of aur, the Wärmebchandlungsvorrichtung 15 coming sewage sludge and the mixture ratio can be achieved that the temperature exiting the mixer 19 and the filter press 16 fed Abwasscr-slurry is more than 70 r C, whereby the dewatering in the filter press 16 is favored.
Bei der Verfahrensführung gemäß A b b. 3 wird im Gegensatz zu F i g. 1 die gesamte wärmezubchandelnde Abwasserschlammengc vor der Wärmebehandlung teilcntwässert. Um eine wirksamere Teilentwässerung zu erzielen, wird der durch die Leitung 20 zugeführte Abwasserschlamm in einem Reaktionsmischer 22 mit durch eine ZugabevorrichtungWhen carrying out the process according to A b b. 3, in contrast to FIG. 1 the entire amount of heat to be supplied Wastewater sludge partially dewatered before heat treatment. To achieve a more effective partial drainage To achieve, the sewage sludge supplied through line 20 is in a reaction mixer 22 with by an adding device
De delte Schlamm wird mit geeigneter T Filterpresse 26 zugeführt und dort wässert.21 supplied flocculants mixed before it is fed to the centrifuge 23. A considerable one Part of the water can then be discharged as centrifugate through the centrifugate line 14 and does not take part in the heat treatment. In the heat treatment device 25 e a significant energy saving. De delte mud is treated with suitable T Filter press 26 supplied and watered there.
