Description
According to the prior art, bromine is produced from bromine-containing solutions by oxidation of the bromine ions with chlorine and expelling the elemental bromine with steam. A mixture is created from water vapor and bromine vapor. This is brought to condensation by cooling, Water and bromine are separated and the bromine is largely freed from the chlorine content by refining. The bromine is further purified by distillation. In this process, bromine is also formed about 0.1% chlorine, with about 500 ppm water and 50 to 150 ppm organic matter as evaporation residue. This bromine is because of its water content and organic matter content not applicable for many technical purposes.
To avoid corrosion damage in transport and reaction vessels as well as for special organic ones Syntheses, however, require bromine that is practically anhydrous and residue-free. This practical Up to now, water-free and residue-free bromine cannot be produced without considerable effort.
Die DL-Patentschrift 47 179 betrifft ein Verfahren turn Entwässern von Brom, bei dem Brom in gasförmigem Zustand durch konzentrierte Schwefelsäure bei mindestens 60° C hindurchgeführt und das verdampfte Br2- und Cl2-Gemisch in Bromkühlschlangen niedergeschlagen wird, wobei die Chlorgase vom Brom abgetrennt und in den Bromturm zurückgeführt Werden.DL patent specification 47 179 relates to a process for the dehydration of bromine, in which the bromine is passed in a gaseous state through concentrated sulfuric acid at at least 60 ° C. and the evaporated Br 2 and Cl 2 mixture is precipitated in bromine cooling coils, the chlorine gases from the bromine separated and returned to the bromine tower.
The description says: »The finely divided bromine is dehydrated by the sulfuric acid and the organic impurities are held back by the concentric sulfuric acid. "
This method is only suitable for crude bromine with 200 to 300 ppm organic impurities. When crude bromine with 1000-10000 ppm organic impurities is used for this process Would, then the organic content in the distilled bromine would be much higher, z. B. at 200 up to 300 (500 to 1000) ppm.
This process is therefore not suitable for the production of elemental bromine which is practically anhydrous and residue-free and which contains about 1000 to 10000 ppm of organic impurities. If gaseous bromine is passed through sulfuric acid "at least 60 ° C", a large part of the impurities, some of which have become an inorganic compound through degradation, inevitably pass through the concentrated H 2 SO 4 and become gaseous or after the condensation liquid phase over. This prepurified bromine is to be understood as meaning bromine which only contains sublimable inorganic bromine compounds.
This process solves another task, namely the dehydration of the bromine with less Contained in organic substances and only works with one drying and degradation stage.
Die Verwendung von Oleum istFollowing the procedure of U.S. Patent 3,314,762 sulfuric acid is used "with or without the addition of oleum". The use of oleum is
bei der Reinigung von Brom ungeeignet, da diese zu Additionsverbindungen wie »BrSO3« führt.unsuitable for the purification of bromine, as this leads to addition compounds such as »BrSO 3 «.
Concentrated H 2 SO 1 is used in conjunction with bromine "in a vaporous state". The temperature is kept at "about 55 ° C".
H2SO4 soll »eine Temperatur von etwa 75° C haben«.DL-PS 58 292 also only teaches the use of H 2 SO 4 , "in that vaporous bromine is passed through a H 2 SO 4 layer". H 2 SO 4 should "have a temperature of about 75 ° C".
The main patent 2 034437 is a process for the production of water and practically residue-free elemental bromine with organic impurities of about 1000 to 10,000 ppm Crude bromine using concentrated sulfuric acid in the distillation and drying process that is carried out by the following procedural stages are identified:

Destillation erfolgt. In a further development of this process according to Patent 2,034,437, a process for the production of practically anhydrous and residue-free elemental bromine with organic impurities of about 1000 to 10,000 ppm from crude bromine using concentrated sulfuric acid in the distillation and drying has now been found, which is characterized that the mixing of concentrated H 2 SO 4 and crude bromine in the specified ratio takes place in countercurrent before the 1st distillation is carried out.
The method of the invention is illustrated, for example, as follows:
1000 kg Rohbrom aus der Abtriebssäule (»Bromturm«) mit 5000 ppm organischer Substanz und 500 ppm Wasser werden nach der im Rarfineur erfolgten Entchlorung einem DestUlationssumpf von unten und 21 konzentrierte Schwefelsäure von oben zugeführt, wodurch die organischen Bestandteile ab-1000 kg of crude bromine from the stripping column ("bromine tower") with 5000 ppm of organic matter and 500 ppm of water are taken after that in the rarfineur Dechlorination of a DestUlationssumpf from below and concentrated sulfuric acid from above supplied, whereby the organic components
