Technisches GebietTechnical area
The present invention relates to air cleaners for filtering dusts, fibers and biological particles from air and other gases combined with germicidal irradiation of a filter element.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
Air purifiers are used to remove dangerous and annoying contaminants from the air we breathe, such as those that can occur in living and working rooms, offices, public facilities, hospitals and on construction sites. Since the 1970s, improved filter technology has made it possible to remove dangerous particles from 0.3 µm in diameter from the filtered air to a high degree. In the nineties, developments focused primarily on air purification in living and working spaces. In the 2000s, efforts to avoid occupational diseases caused by dust and particulate matter increased, and efforts to reduce the viral load in the breath have been the focus of interest since 2019.
In
The possibility of filtering dust, fibers and biological particles from the air is also known.
Darstellung der ErfindungPresentation of the invention
The present invention is based on the technical problem of sucking a large amount of air through one or more filter elements in a compact and lightweight housing and removing dust, fibers and biological particles, as well as deactivating biological particles and releasing the cleaned air into the room.
This object is achieved with an air cleaner with sterilization support with the features of protection claim 1.
The present invention is based on the idea that the filter element stops almost all particles, while a device with UVC radiation illuminates and partially illuminates the filter element and irradiates biological particles such as viruses long enough to deactivate them.
Classrooms in schools, meeting rooms and the like usually have a size of at least 10 × 5 × 3 m 3 and thus a volume of 150 m 3 . In general, four to eight air changes per hour are recommended for such rooms for air hygiene, which means a total volume of 600 to 1,200 m 3 / h. It is unrealistic to do this with fresh air during the heating season. However, air circulation requires filtering of dust, fibers and biological particles from the air in order to avoid their accumulation in the air we breathe. In principle, air purifiers such as those used in the construction industry to remove dangerous airborne dust from the air we breathe on construction sites are suitable for this. These consist of a housing in which a pre-filter for coarse dust and a HEPA filter for fine dust as well as a fan on the suction side are installed. At the location of a larger group of people, the indoor air is also polluted with biological particles such as aerosols, bacteria and viruses. The HEPA filters (High-Efficiency Particulate Air, HEPA filters) are designed for the collection of dusts and aerosols with particle sizes from 320 nm. Viruses in particular are, however, significantly smaller at 50 to 150 nm. However, such small particles cannot move in air, so that they typically coagulate with small drops of liquid and form aerosols. Their diameter is then in the detectable range. If such a drop is caught by a filter medium, it is to be expected that the liquid will evaporate again through the air flow. It has not yet been conclusively clarified whether viruses then remain in the filter medium or can leave it again. However, it is very likely that they will be held up in the filter medium. During this time they can be deactivated. In order to avoid an accumulation of biologically active particles in the filter and the possible formation of a culture, it is necessary to deactivate the germs in the filter. This is done according to the invention by means of radiation sources with UVC light arranged behind the main filter.
