Description
Die Erfindung betrifft eine Kühlung von z. B. Wasserproben in batteriebetriebenen Probenahmegeräten bei denen aufgrund von nur begrenztem Energievorrat eine Kompressorkühlung nicht eingesetzt werden kannThe invention relates to a cooling of z. B. Water samples in battery-operated sampling equipment in which due to limited energy supply compressor cooling can not be used
Automatic liquid samplers are used for a variety of monitoring tasks. In many cases as transportable units with battery operation. The subsequent examination of the samples taken usually also includes biological analyzes. In order to keep the samples as stable as possible for the time between sampling and examination in the laboratory, the sample medium is cooled to a temperature of about 4 ° C. in order to prevent biological changes (germ growth, etc.) as far as possible. The cooling of the samples can be done in different ways. An easy way is to fill the sample room with ice or dry ice before sampling, so that a certain amount of cold storage is available. Another possibility is to use an electrically operated compressor cooling. This type of cooling is very effective and can be controlled very accurately. However, this type of temperature control requires a lot of energy. This is a major disadvantage in battery-operated devices, since large batteries must be used depending on the ambient temperature, water temperature and duration of operation. Another possibility of electrical cooling is the use of thermoelectric elements, so-called Peltier elements. With these, a cooling or heating effect can be generated by feeding with DC. Cooling on this basis can be constructed inexpensively and compactly. The disadvantage of these elements, however, is that they require a great deal of energy, are relatively inefficient and allow only a limited cooling capacity of about 15 ° C below ambient temperature.
A particular problem is the use of portable sampling equipment for event sampling. In such applications, devices z. B. placed in waters to avoid the occurrence of certain conditions, eg. B. strong level increase in the water to take samples automatically. If in this case there is still the demand for cooling the sample, then inevitably further problems arise. Pre-cooling with ice is no longer possible. Compressor cooling is usable, but expensive, heavy and with high energy requirements. Often, these sample tasks require only a small amount of sample to be cooled, so a small powerful cooling would suffice.
On the market there are already portable automatic sampling devices equipped with a cooling device. As a rule, these are electrical compressor cooling systems which operate with the mains supply (230 Volt 50 Hz). Some of these devices are also offered in DC mode, so instead of the mains power supply a 12 volt battery can be used. For the operation of such cooling for 48 hours but then big batteries with z. B. 90 Ah necessary. In particular, at high outdoor and sample temperatures, the refrigerator requires longer switch-on, so that the existing battery capacity is exhausted faster. We do not know that thermoelectric elements are used for sample cooling. This is probably due to the fact that the possible temperature drop of about 15 ° C below the ambient temperature is too low and the efficiency too small.
Based on this prior art, the present invention seeks to cool samples with a cooling device that requires little electrical energy, achieved a cooling capacity of at least 20 ° C and also is inexpensive and compact to build.
This object is achieved by a cooling device with the features of
The basic idea of the invention is to combine two cooling methods. Thermoelectric cooling and chemical cooling with a salt mixture. Both methods allow a temperature reduction of about 15 ° C. That means in combination a cooling of well over 20 ° C can be achieved. One way to use this combination is to set the sample container in a water bath, which can be relatively quickly cooled by more than 10 ° C by the thermoelectric cooling. The energy required for this cooling is about 6 Ah when a water flow of z. B. 500 ml to be cooled. In order to achieve a further reduction of the temperature is now in this water mask a salt such. B. potassium chloride introduced, which causes a further decrease in the water temperature by about 15 ° C by doing taking place endothermic reaction. Both methods are applicable with technically simple devices, can be compact and are inexpensive to manufacture. The operating costs are also low, since only a battery charge with 6 Ah and z. B. 100 g of potassium chloride or similar salts are necessary. Depending on the ambient and water temperature, only one method can be used. This can also be done by a regulation in the device itself. Also, the two methods can be used in reverse order by first preparing the salt mixture and then turning on the thermoelectric element. Or both methods are used simultaneously. For longer standby times, such as those that occur during event sampling, it is advisable to store the salt around the sample container instead of the water reservoir and to automatically add the necessary water from a closed storage container. This prevents impurities from forming in open water over time.
