Description
The invention relates to a heat exchanger, in particular an exhaust gas heat exchanger, for a motor vehicle. The invention further relates to a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine, comprising an exhaust system and such, cooperating with the exhaust system heat exchanger.
Heat exchangers are used in connection with exhaust systems of internal combustion engines in order to make use of the heat contained in the exhaust gas. For this purpose, thermoelectric modules can be provided with thermoelectric elements in the heat exchanger. Such thermoelectric elements consist of thermoelectric semiconductor materials which convert a temperature difference into a potential difference, ie into an electrical voltage, and vice versa. In this way heat energy can be converted into electrical energy by the heat exchanger. Physically, the thermoelectric modules rely on the Seebeck effect when converting heat into electrical energy. Within a thermoelectric module, p-doped and n-doped thermoelectric elements are interconnected. Usually, a plurality of such thermoelectric modules are connected together to form a thermoelectric generator which can generate electrical energy or an electrical voltage from a temperature difference in conjunction with a corresponding heat flow. In the heat exchanger, the temperature difference between the hot sides and the cold sides of the thermoelectric modules required for generating electrical energy is generated by thermally interacting the hot gas with the hot sides and a coolant with lower temperature hot gas with the cold sides of the thermoelectric modules. This is achieved by arranging the hot and cold sides of the thermoelectric modules in a suitable manner in the heat exchanger through which the hot gas and the coolant flow.
The present invention addresses the problem of providing for a heat exchanger of the type described above, an improved or at least another embodiment, which is characterized by improved efficiency.
This object is solved by the subject matter of the independent patent claims. Preferred embodiments are subject of the dependent claims.
The basic idea of the invention is accordingly to arrange thermoelectric modules with thermoelectric elements in a heat exchanger in such a way that the hot gas guided through the heat exchanger meets the hot sides of the thermoelectric modules in the form of a baffle jet. This has the consequence that the hot gas, a particularly high amount of heat is removed, which can be converted by the thermoelectric modules, the operating principle of a thermoelectric generator, into electrical energy. This is accompanied by an improved efficiency of the heat exchanger, which proves to be particularly advantageous if it is operated as an exhaust gas heat exchanger in order to harness the energy contained in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine.
A heat exchanger according to the invention, which can preferably be used as an exhaust gas heat exchanger, comprises an outer tube extending along a longitudinal direction for flowing through hot gas, which delimits an outer tube interior and for this purpose comprises two outer tube tube walls in a cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. In the outer tube interior, preferably coaxial with the outer tube, an inner tube extending along the longitudinal direction is arranged to flow through with the hot gas, which delimits an inner tube interior space. The inner tube is formed closed at one longitudinal end and comprises two inner tube tube walls in the cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. As essential to the invention is to be considered a plurality of breakthroughs that are present in the inner pipe tube walls. By means of said openings of the inner tube interior communicates fluidly with the outer tube interior. The heat exchanger according to the invention also comprises a plurality of arranged on an outer side of the outer tube tube walls thermoelectric modules. The thermoelectric modules each have a hot side facing the outer tube and a cold side facing away from the outer tube. In addition, the heat exchanger comprises at least one coolant tube for flowing through with a coolant, which is arranged on the cold side of at least one thermoelectric module.
By means of the above-described inventive design or arrangement of outer tube and inner tube and the outer tube or inner tube tube walls in cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction is achieved that the hot gas flowing through the inner tube only in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction through the in the inner tube -Rohrwänden existing breakthroughs can get into the outer tube and there meets the outer tube pipe walls. In this case, an advantageous, high back pressure is generated in the inner tube in the hot gas. As a result, a high impact effect of the hot gas is achieved when this meets after passing through the apertures on the outer tube tube walls of the outer tube, on which the outside of the hot sides of the thermoelectric modules are arranged. In this way the desired, improved interaction of the hot gas is achieved with the thermoelectric modules, so that the hot gas, a particularly large amount of heat is withdrawn. As a result, correspondingly more electric energy is generated by the thermoelectric modules acting as thermoelectric generators, which in turn increases the efficiency of the heat exchanger.
According to a preferred embodiment, the outer tube is formed as a flat tube. In cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, the two outer tube tube walls are opposite and form the two broad sides of the flat tube. In this variant, at least a first thermoelectric module are arranged on the first outer tube tube wall and at least one second thermoelectric element on the second outer tube tube wall.
In a further preferred embodiment, the inner tube is formed as a flat tube. In this embodiment, the two inner tube tube walls are opposite in cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and form the two broad sides of the flat tube. The openings are arranged in the first inner wall tube wall and in the second inner wall tube wall. This variant also supports the realization of the heat exchanger in flat design, especially if the outer tube is realized as a flat tube.
Expediently, in the cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, the first outer tube tube wall may face the first inner tube tube wall and the second outer tube tube wall may face the second inner tube tube wall. In this way, the height of the heat exchanger can be kept very low.
In an advantageous development, at least a first and an at least second coolant pipe are present. In this development, the at least one first coolant tube is arranged on the cold side of the at least one first thermoelectric module. The at least one second coolant tube is arranged on the cold side of the at least one second thermoelectric module.
This allows a uniform thermal contact of the coolant flowing through the cooling tubes with the thermoelectric modules of the heat exchanger.
Particularly preferably, the outer tube along a stacking direction, which is arranged transversely to the longitudinal direction of the outer tube, between the first and the second coolant tube. In this way, the space required in the stacking direction for the heat exchanger space can be kept low.
Particularly preferably, the at least one, in particular first and / or second, coolant tube is formed as a flat tube whose broad sides facing in cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the (first or second) thermoelectric modules. This embodiment requires along a direction of the outer tube transversely to its longitudinal direction, particularly little space. At the same time flat surface contact of the coolant tubes with the cold sides of the thermoelectric modules can be achieved by means of such flat tubes, which in turn high efficiency of the heat exchanger can be achieved.
Suitably, the first and / or second coolant tube may each have a U-shaped geometry with a base and a first and a second leg. In this case, the two legs extend along the longitudinal direction of the outer tube. In this way, coolant inlet and coolant outlet can be arranged at the same longitudinal end of the outer tube, which can be of considerable advantage in certain installation space situations.
In another advantageous development, a coolant distributor is present at a first longitudinal end of the outer tube. The latter communicates fluidically with a coolant inlet of the first and second coolant tubes provided on the first leg. Alternatively or additionally, in this development, a coolant collector is provided at the first longitudinal end of the outer tube. The latter communicates fluidly with a coolant inlet of the first and the second coolant tube which is provided on the second limb. In this way, coolant inlet and coolant outlet can be arranged at different longitudinal ends of the outer tube, which can be advantageous in certain installation space situations.
In a further preferred embodiment, the outer tube is formed closed at its two longitudinal ends opposite the longitudinal direction. In an alternative preferred embodiment, the outer tube is open at one of the two longitudinal ends and formed closed at the other of the two longitudinal end. Both variants allow an advantageous discharge of the hot gas from the heat exchanger.
Appropriately, at a first longitudinal end opposite the second longitudinal end of the inner tube to this connect a gas inlet for introducing the hot gas into the inner tube.
In a further preferred embodiment, the flat tube forming the outer tube has two narrow sides in the cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. In this embodiment, the aspect ratio is from one broad side to a narrow side more than 1, preferably at least 2, most preferably at least 4.
In a further preferred embodiment, the flat tube forming the inner tube has two narrow sides in the cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. In this embodiment, the aspect ratio of a broad side to a narrow side is more than 1, preferably at least 2, most preferably at least 6.
