Description
The terminal chlorination of 1,1-dichloroethane appears to be a simple and useful process for the production of 1,1,1-trichloroethane (methyl chloroform). However, the reaction is violent and there is a marked tendency for coal and tar to separate out. Processes based on this reaction also have the disadvantage that they give comparatively low yields of methyl chloroform. The severity of the reaction can be controlled by using low mole ratios of Cl 2 with respect to 1,1-dichloroethane, but this results in a low space-time yield. Previous processes relied mainly on the use of fluidized beds or on the recycling of substantial amounts of the reaction mixture to the incoming reactants in order to control the reaction and to achieve high yields. The reactors used are expensive and complicated and the yields also leave a lot to be desired.
The invention therefore include that seen in the preceding claims A process for the preparation of reaction mixtures containing 1,1,1-trichloroethane, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride and hydrogen chloride.
ι» Beim erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren führt man also 1,1-Dichloräthan und Chlor in der Nähe des geschlossenen Endes eines leeren Reaktors ein, wobei an diesem Ende eine turbulente Reaktionszone gebildet wird, die heißen Reaktionsgase frische Beschickung in die ZoneIn the method according to the invention one therefore leads 1,1-dichloroethane and chlorine near the closed end of an empty reactor, at this At the end of a turbulent reaction zone is formed, the hot reaction gases feed fresh into the zone

Beim erfindungsgemäßen Verfah-i ") entrain and a reaction of the fresh charge in the zone cause the reaction gases from the turbulent zone to the opposite end of the Flow reactor and the entire zone in the reactor has a temperature in the range of 300 to 450 ° C Preferably, the reactants are heated to temperatures such that when they enter the turbulent zone exist in a vaporized form, making the process under adiabatic conditions is performed. In the method according to the invention
2) The reactants can optionally be premixed.
Wie bereitsIn the present process, the turbulent zone and the reactants outside of the meet turbulent zone different functions. As already
Die Reaktionsteilnehmer mäßigen durch Verdünnung die heftige Reaktion, die into run, tear the hot gases in the turbulent Zone due to a back-mixing fresh feed into the zone and cause a reaction of said Loading in the zone. The reactants moderate the violent reaction that takes place in
The reacting gases heat the incoming reactants by backmixing, which leave the inlet pipe. To some extent, they heat the turbulent zone leaving gases in an indirect heat exchange the reactants in the inlet pipe. this means that you can work in the reaction zone with a higher heat level than is possible, when the reactants the high temperature
αϊ vorerhitzt werden, die zur Initiierung der Reaktion erforderlich ist Dies bedeutet wiederum, daß man mit ziemlich hohen Molverhältnissen von CI2 zu 1,1-Dichloräthan arbeiten kann, wobei trotzdem eine übermäßige Bildung von hochchlorierten Kohlenwasserstoffen αϊ are preheated, which is necessary to initiate the reaction. This in turn means that you can work with fairly high molar ratios of Cl2 to 1,1-dichloroethane, with an excessive formation of highly chlorinated hydrocarbons
In the process according to the invention, the optimal and desired situation is achieved in which local overheating is avoided, carbon formation is negligible and good yields of the desired product are obtained.
The present process can be carried out with a wide variety of Cl 2 to 1,1-dichloroethane molar ratios. It is possible, surprisingly, to use high molar ratios of Cl 2 to 1,1-dichloroethane.
Besonders brauchbare Resultate können erhalten werden, wenn man ein Molverhältnis von Cl2 zu 1,1-Dichloräthan im BereichUseful results are obtained when a molar ratio of more than 0.3: 1, preferably more than 0.4: 1 and up to 1.0: 1, is used. Particularly useful results can be obtained when one has a molar ratio of Cl 2 to 1,1-dichloroethane in the range
Kontaktzeiten von mindestens 5 Sekunden werden gewöhnlich verwendet, beispielswei-Fi5 of 0.45: 1 to 0.7: 1 is used, the reaction temperatures used are preferably in the range of 375 to 42O 0 C. Contact times of at least 5 seconds are commonly used beispielswei-
(These contact times are based on the total volume of the vaporized charge at the working pressure and at a reaction temperature of 400 ° C.) The speed of the reactants entering the reaction zone can be varied widely, but is preferably in the range from 22.8 to 38.1 m / sec.
The present process creates some unsaturated by-products from cracking Vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride. These can be obtained by hydrochlorination in 1,1-dichloroethane or 1,1,1-trichloroethane being transformed. The procedure lends itself to an integrated procedure in the area of the present invention falls and in which a chlorination of 1,1-dichloroethane as described above concurrent with hydrochlorination of a vinyl chloride feed and the unsaturated by-products. Appropriately, this becomes the Chlorination reactor leaving reaction product fractionally distilled, with a light fraction that Contains vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride and hydrogen chloride, and a heavy fraction which is 1,1,1-trichloroethane contains, is obtained. The light fraction and a fresh vinyl chloride are under in the liquid phase Catalysis hydrochlorinated in a hydrochlorination zone, 1,1-dichloroethane and 1,1,1-trichloroethane is obtained. The 1,1-dichloroethane is separated from the Hydrochlorierungsreaktior.sprodukt and led to the chlorination reactor, and the 1,1,1-trichloroethane is made from the hydrochlorination product and obtained from said heavy fraction. 1,1-dichloroethane, which is not in the chlorination reactor has reacted and which may be present in the light and / or heavy fraction also returned to the chlorination zone. The hydrogen chloride obtained from the chlorination zone falls in an amount greater than that to react with the vinyl chloride feed and the unsaturates By-products required is 1,1,1-trichloroethane can be separated from the chlorination reaction products before they are sent to the hydrochlorination device stream.
Auch können andere inerte organische Flüssigkeiten,The non-aqueous liquid medium in the hydrochlorination reactor can be any inert organic liquid, such as e.g. B. chlorinated hydrocarbons, for example mixtures of 1,1-dichloroethane and 1,1,1-trichloroethane. In fact, mixtures are made up these compounds by reaction of HCl with the unsaturation, which leads to the hydrochlorination device are led, formed. The Friedel-Crafts catalyst used in the hydrochlorination zone suitably consists of ferric chloride. Other inert organic liquids,
wie z. B. polare organische Lösungsmittel, die mindestens eine Nitrogruppe (—NO2) enthalten, beispielsweise Nitrobenzol, welches mit FeCl3 einen Komplex bildet, in der Hydrochloriervorrichtung verwendet werden.such as B. polar organic solvents which contain at least one nitro group (—NO2), for example nitrobenzene, which forms a complex with FeCl 3 , can be used in the hydrochlorination device.
A crude product can be withdrawn in liquid form from the hydrochlorination device and from the metal chloride catalyst be exempted by conventional measures, for example by flash evaporation, Steam distillation or washing with water.
Atmospheric or superatmospheric pressures can be used in the chlorination and hydrochlorination zones. Suitably temperatures in the range from 20 to 70 ° C. are used in the hydrochlorination zone. Temperatures in the range from 20 to 40 ° C. give good results when the hydrochlorination is carried out at atmospheric pressure. Vinylidene chloride can be withdrawn as a useful product prior to the hydrochlorination stage.
